  1. Had a good bike cleaning session this weekend. Used a chain cleaner, took the cassette off, took the jockey pulleys out, degreased everything and put it all together again. Used some brushes on the brakes to get all the grit out etc, etc... Then went over Constantia Nek, on the descent, coming past Izama-Yethu, there was a huge torrent of efluent washing accross the road, which i couldn't avoid, needless to say my bike is dirty again...! So, going to start over... My question is, I want to grease the derailleurs, springs, brakes, and bolts, pedals etc, etc. What grease should I use? I noticed when I bought the groupsets, there is a luminous green type of grease on everything, I wanted to wash this out and replace it, does anyone know what it is?
  2. HAHAHA... I was hoping it was as simple as that. So soes that mean Campag only comes in Italian thread??? As it shouldn't be allowed on a non-Italian frame?
  3. very interesting, had the same thing on my BB, was *&%$ myself thinking it was a cracked frame. Just another BB question: How can you tell if you got an English or Italian thread, without removing the Crank or BB. Is it written in the product code. I've got a Shimano BB
  4. There was an article on this in the RIDE magazine a few months ago (I'll reference it later) where they built up a bike for R20,000. They advised splitting your budget in thirds. 1/3rd on the frameset, fork, bars, stem, seatpost 1/3rd on the Groupset, accesories, saddle, pedals 1/3rd on the wheelset, tyres The bike they built up was a BMC Aluminium frame, with easton EC70 Fork, 105 groupset, and Fulcrum wheels
  5. OK, this did not work. I stuck the longest Allen key down there, 5mm didn't fit (as it's M5 thread), so tried a 4mm, and I didnt feel anything beyond the threaded section (just a black hole)! And I cant push it through either, cos the bottom of my steerer tube is sealed!
  6. O I C Planning on fitting one of those TOKEN Caps, but need to get my Easton one out first...
  7. The allen key will fit in this hole. Try turning it slightly both ways to feel when it loosens. Just make sure you use the correct size. Are you saying the fist bit of the hole is suitable for an allen key, and the second bit is threaded? (did appear threaded the whole way through) Will try that though... Otherwise maybe makes sense to push it all the way through.
  8. Eish! Good point....
  9. I think I'll take a picture and post it... From the top, it looks like a aluminium nut (with one slit down the side for expansion) and one threaded hole in the middle (the fixing hole for the bolt from the cap)
  10. I've got an Easton EC90SL Fork, with the Carbon Steerer. I'm trying to take the expander from the Headset Cap out of the steerer tube. How do I do this??? I tried turning a bolt into the expander and pulling up on the head of the bolt with pliers, But she aint moving. Am I doing this right??? carlo_sg2008-09-17 04:18:05
