  1. And speaking of Entry Fees... How about PPA's Hillclimb, R60 (if you a member) for 4km - R15/km And it a closed road, so there is no need for traffic marshalls.
  2. well I just entered the Fitness Festival duathlon in Clanwilliam. 20km cycle- R114+ admin. fees 10km Run - R114+ admin fee Came to R235! - R7.83/km - almost as expensive as petrol!
  3. Did anyone notice that the new Ultegra SL is stiffer than 7800 Dura-Ace and Record! http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll253/carlo_sg/62561391oz3.jpg
  4. Found this article, very interesting... Could settle some arguments, or even start some. Cranksets were basically tested for weight & stiffness. http://www.fairwheelbikes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5361

  6. Anybody using Alligator I-link cables? Was thinking of getting some to bling up my bike a bit (to use with Shimano). Was told by the salesman in the shop that they're fine for the brakes, but no to use them on the gears, because they give sloppy shifting. Anybody that can speak from experience?

  9. Maybe he's strong like Vernon Koekemoer, and has churned such big torque, that he's spinning the world, and has done a bunny-hop and waiting to land at the finish line...
  10. Same thing happened to me... Woman overtook me and turned left in front of me- SMASH! - then carried on going, I got her registration and reported it to the police. The police delivered a letter to her address on my behalf, stating the damages to my bike. In response... She first denied it was her involved in the accident, then after I explicitly described her, and her car, she said, "oh yes now I remember..." Then with her husband being a lawyer, she sent me a letter stating she was suing me for damages to her car! And a side note that he (her husband) could have me arrested for malicious intent (because I swore at her when she didnt stop), and to avoid this I should drop my case. When I went back to the police for help, the detective told me to F*** OFF, and told me to get out the police station....
  11. Best to give an itemised list of exactly what you want done, and ask for a conservative quote. If you're not specific it probably wont get done. ie don't just say clean the cassette, say - remove cassette and clean it. But back to pricing, i was charged R180 LABOUR by a Branded bike shop, to change my brake cables!
  12. weekend warrior, upgrade your groupset first before you worry about how fast you going! LOL Joking, when's your birthday, I'll pitch in.carlo_sg2008-08-20 07:13:18
  13. I read in the RIDE magazine he can churn out 2200w!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Cheaper- apparently, but the South African supplier/agent is unaware of this and has had no indication of this from Mavic Check the link to read the article http://thisjustin.bicycling.com/2008/06/mavic-2009-road.htmlcarlo_sg2008-08-12 04:22:06
  15. Could you please post a list of Authorised LOOK Dealers, that are taking part in this recall.
  16. Oh my word! Cannot understand why people cant greet! I greet everyone on a bicycle- commuter, softcore or hardcore. I road ride, and they have got to be the unfriendliest ever... I recenctly considered joining a club and went out for a ride with them, and almost everyone I tried to make conversation with ignored me (first impressions last). And I'm not a social rider either, I'm hardcore - But when I'm out on my bike, and I pass (or sometimes get passed) someone, I always have a chat.
  17. what about: Mavic Cosmic Carbone Ultimate 40mm 1185g Easton EC90 Aero 60mm 1370g Both around R10,000 cheape I heard somewhere, you should spend about 1/3rd on your frameset, 1/3rd on groupset & 1/3rd on wheels. So if you riding R30,000 wheels will the sum of your bike be R90,000! or are you fitting them to an old Peugeot 12 speed - which will look stoopid...carlo_sg2008-08-12 01:28:47

  20. Back to the issue of the posssibly stolen bike... Alarm bells rang in my head for the following reasons: I recognised the bike as it's very distinctive with the yellow and black frame and 4-spoke spinergy wheels, as we all know "Paul" rides. The young man riding the bike was not in cycling kit, rather was wearing a white and red tracksuit (similar to those seen in Hip Hop videos), neither was he wearing cycling shoes - which I thought was unusual. When I turned my head to get a better look, he immediately changed direction, and headed down a side road. When I turned my car to follow he went down an alley where I could not access. Perhaps "Paul" has sold his bike to this guy, but he was not dressed like a cyclist, and I became suspicious escpecially because I associated that bike with "Paul". I think the issue here is, Was his bike stolen, if so, could people in the area of Wynberg, Plumstead, be on the lookout. We might not all agree with his riding habits. But we all would be distraught if our bikes were stolen, and would appreciate if people would join together to help find it.
  21. I've got a brand new set of Sprint 350's for sale - R3000 https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=27447&PN=1 Wheelset: 587g Front; 797g Rear Skewers: 48g Front; 52g Rear
  22. Does anyone know that guy that comes to all the PPA rides in Cape Town without a helmet and rides that yellow and black Scott, with the four spoke Spinergy wheels? Well I just saw a young, tall, coloured guy, wearing a white and red tracksuit riding that specific bike up Gabriel Road in Plumstead. I turned my car around and gave chase, then he disappeared.
  23. Had the same thing happen with my (wireless) speed sensor when I fitted it to another bike, it was just out of reach of the signal range, so I moved it closer and seemed to work - might be the same problem. Try taking it off, hold sensor closer to your watch, then move the magnet past the sensor, and see if it works then?carlo_sg2008-08-01 13:58:54
