  2. Hey Mak, sounds good But I think you'll find a few of the things you have listed are spec. weight, and will in reality be a lot heavier. Tyres for one, manufacturer's often quote the spec. weight of the tyre as the weight once the tread is completely worn down. A Dura-ace crank is closer to 700g, and brake and gear cables will be around 200g I could be wrong, and you might have weighed everything already! Aim for 6.5kg - that is still very light! under 6kg, you looking at a R75,000 bike!carlo_sg2009-01-19 04:54:48

  5. Contact carbon911, he has a set of EA70's for cheap. At this price range, The easton's are the better wheels
  6. Dragon Sports in Gardens - Cape Town, same agents for Giant.
  7. I'm sure this only applies to people with receipts from a certified Mavic dealer; and no serial number, no deal. LOL
  8. The Cannondale & American Classic graphics match really well. All you need is ITM K-Sword stem and bars to finish it off
  9. Although the voltage is small, it has a great affect on corrosion. This is based on the principle of the Anode & cathode. Dont know if you can remember the experiment where you insert two dissimilar metals into a lemon, and connect the two ends of the metal (via a wire) to a small lightbulb, and there is enough current to light the bulb. This is known as Electrochemical Corollary - a chemical reaction where Oxidation (rusting) takes place
  10. There are different grades of Stainless Steel, the most common is 304. Which suprisingly - rusts relatively quickly. The better option is 316, which doesnt rust very easily at all BUT, who can tell the difference??? AND, when it coming from China, who is testing it to make sure it has the correct chemical composition... (304 stainless bolts have a A4 stamped on them, where 316 bolts will have A2 stamped on them) Remember Aluminium bolts are NOT strong, and should not be used in high stress applications (like brakes, handlebar, stem etc), rather go for Titanium (at a premium!) Something to take into account is: If you have a mild steel frame, and put stainless bolts through it, you have a "battery" Remember school science - Two dissimilar metal joined together in the presence of an electrolyte (salty sea air), will result in a current between them. This small electric current results in corrosion!

  12. I heard from a reputable MTB shop in Cape Town that bubbles form from using tyre sealant, and some manufacturer's actually warn about using sealants, as it affects the rubber, and therefore because you have been warned, there will be no warranty replacement...
  13. Colonel has organised a group ride for Saturday morning. Starting in Sunningdale, heading to the southern suburbs and following the notorious Cape Cobra route. Contact him for details.
  14. The correct phrase: Focus on Track cycling. Sorry, thats what I meant...
  15. John Moss, what a legend! 23x Sub-3's if I'm not mistaken!!!!
  16. Johnny Coen has been trying to convince Nolan Hoffman to ride track for ages, and he was right, definately an Olympic Champion in the making. Well spotted Mr Coen...
  17. Fortunely, I did Engineering at UCT, and one of my thesis projects was wind tunnel testing of cricket balls, so I have a bit of history/understanding of Aerodynamics. I also did a thesis project was on helmets, impacts, and survivabilty which was a real eye opener, cant understand why someone would choose to ride without a helmet, but that is for another topic!
  18. At 40km/h 90% of a rider?s energy is used up by aero drag. Aero drag is very relevant to every cyclist. That would explain why making small improvements in aerodynamics yields such large decreases in power-required, at the same speed. I would be very interested to see the results from a Cervelo Soloist vs. R3, and the new Felt AR vs. the F-series. Although I dont expect much difference as I'm sure their frontal areas are still the same, perhaps slightly less on the "aero" bikes, but these two (the Soloist and the AR) will have more skin-drag, as a result of the "flattened" out tubing, with could increase the drag over regular tubing...carlo_sg2008-12-05 00:34:46
  19. cwc = www.chriswillemsecycles.co.za ??? No Zipp 303's listed on their site...
  20. Get 404's they do not weigh that much more than the 303's the 404's are 1237g, where as the 303's are 1182g If you ride in Cape Town, PE or anywhere where there is strong wind, get the 303's. 202's are so 1990's and you'll always wish you had bought the deeper ones.
  21. 300w?
  22. I've been tuned by puff adders TWICE on constantia Nek... Yes, road riding...! The evil bastards were in the grass on the side of the road! Ek het in my kortbroek geKAK!
