Thanks Luckily the Consumer Act forces the retailer to take back the item. This is one piece of legislation that I really like!

    SABS

An oke at work asked me this afternoon if I will have a look at his brand new bike. The braking system is not so lekker en the gears glip die wêreld vol. So, late this afternoon I took his brand new, Dunlop Epic Trail FS 2600 full suspension bicycle home. I worked on it for tops an hour, and gave up. Before I stored it for the night I looked for the SABS marker/ label and found none. Now, I personally think it is morally inexcusable that this type of junk is sold to the public by a national retailer. But my question is: is it legal to market this rubbish locally without the South African Bureau of Standards- or a known international safety accredited organisation markings on it?
  5. Not LBS more Other Bike Shops (OBS) related. I am told that I have the tendency to research/ examine things to the extreme (when it takes my fancy). Normally when I walk into a shop I know what I want. The item I require may not be the best, nor the lightest or the latest model. I like to experiment, to build thing and sometimes, I just like messing around. The item I want will in most instances not be used for its original, intended purpose. If I walk into a bike shop, do not think that you know me, or that you know what I want. Just because I look like ‘n ou Afrikaanse omie van die platteland. If I ask for an item or assistance, help me. Smirk at me (because you think you know better), and I am gone. If I walk into a store and the sales people is too busy drinking coffee/ cappuccinos or fruit “smoothies” with their “regular clientele”, I’m gone. If there is no price on items, I’m gone. If there is no price on items but a sign that state the price of an item depend on Rand/Dollar/Euro exchange rate, you will never see me again.

  19. An acquaintance asked me this morning. Do you still use a Giant Escape as commuter? When I responding positive to his question he followed it up by stating/ asking the following: He had bought a Giant Escape 2 form City Cycles (Cape Town) recently, but something was seriously wrong with the bike. He asked if I would have a look at it. So he dropped the bike off this afternoon. And he told me that when he bought the bike he requested that the necessary be done to ensure that it was immediately ride- able. According to him, he walked around for nearly four hours until he was phoned for the pickup. The salesman ensured him that the bike was serviced and ready for used. But now he was really disappointed in the bike. So I went to work and found the following: Dry hubs The brakes wasn’t set And a loose headset So I phoned him a few minutes ago to tell him what the problems were and that the bike is now fixed, ready to be picked up. I also had to share the following unpleasant news. He did not buy an Escape 2; a Giant Escape 1 was sold to him on the pretence that it was an Escape 2. The moral compass of this salesman is so off kilter it is not even funny. I do not know what measures he will take for at this stage he is still refusing to accept that he was done in. But I know for sure, never will I support City Cycles.
.. ...die feit bly egter staan, jy is aan die onderkant van die voedselkettang. En ek sien jou disleksie raak minder hoe moeriger jy raak.

  23. thank you all for the "options" Will be buying my Brooks over the weekend; one only and none for her. My actions will test the relationship, but maybe it is a good thing....
  24. This is what I want: Brook saddles for our bikes. Only problem is that the girlfriend/ riding partner is a vegan and a “nutter” when it to animal rights and things that go “moo” in the night. None of the options I saw with a web search is available locally. What non leather alternatives are available in SA that can compete with a Brooks? Presently I enjoy the company of the lady quite a bit, so letting her go is not an option. .. Help
