  1. Interesting stuff. Do you mind me asking what your avg heart rate was ? And do you know what your threshold heart rate is ? How have you found training/racing when operating at higher intensities of 2 hours or more ?
  2. I fail to see what relevance Glen making money has to do with the event ? Like any commercial transaction he has as much right to get a return on his investment as anyone else ? Why would anyone begrudge him his success, as it seems some do ? The 'product' is excellent and in my eyes therefore deserves every cent it costs.
  3. You can't hide a 1500m plus drop in elevation lol, there you have it !
  4. I like the idea, hills separate the fit and not so fit quicker..
  5. that it will be harder that way!
  6. lol, thanks V12, Now I just need to cross over from sbdu to hx coffee machine and all will be good at home

  9. needed matching shoes for my new red and white bike... side note, I am a specialized man and fan, have ridden both their s-works road and mountain shoes for multiple models. This is my first venture into Sidi, and I have to admit wow am I impressed, seem to suit my foot/style and really give me a super comfortable platform to put the power down.
  10. Debbie Stopforth, Trail and Tar Very thorough.
  11. Topwine, I don't know enough about Taubes to take a stance about him, but am interested on your thoughts around Noakes current thoughts on LCHF lifestyle ?
  12. So I went to replace my bearings on the bottom bracket today...apparently I should have stuck to the shopping list it appears..came home with this instead ps - now have a S-Works SL PRO ( S 52 ) frame and Sram Red crank for sale..
  13. Will give feedback as and when I can. Hopefully I will get it and be able to comment on it here.
  14. Hi, I am on a study with SSISA that will be looking at glucose production during exercise with LCHF athletes ( properly adapted ) . Noakes being principle investigator. Start trials mid September. Personally I have found that if I race and am at threshold for 1h40 or longer pretty much sustained ( maybe small recovery periods in between ) the wheels come off completely unless I take carbs on-board.
  15. Got a Jura Ena micro 9 for the office yesterday, still getting to grips with it, but beats the hell out of crap plunger coffee so far ! I have a FrancisFrancis X1 at home that needs some TLC, can anyone recommend a good place to send for repair ? My wife sent to Illy agent ? who advised her it not worth repairing despite the fact it works, just takes a while to froth the milk, which is why I asked her to get it looked at.
  16. Hi, I went for a quick cholesterol test today in the pharmacy, not proper in terms of telling me splits on ldl and hdl. Interestingly the last 2 vitality health checks I have had they came in at 5.9 and 6.1. done in the last 15 months. Obviously outside what they call normal levels, although in every other measurement I tick the box for them ( last body fat percentage done at sports science 7.4% in May ) and have maintained same weight for 20 plus years. I was advised to go to Doctor and get fasting cholesterol test and so forth, any way did nothing about it. Been on strict LCHF for about 5 months now and test today showed 5.1 . I target about 70% fat consumption daily, so go figure on conventional wisdom that would have me avoiding those like the plague and taking meds to bring it in line ! Makes one think..
  17. In terms of all-day exercise (like hiking in the Berg), my food of choice is v.fatty biltong mixed with coconut oil. Incredible stuff. My search is over, and I'm happy. A 750ml bottle of this mix will take me through an entire day of climbing/hiking Hi Tombeej how exactly do you prepare and carry above please ? tx
  18. Agree on your last comment. When one looks at the pharmaceutical, medical and food industry, there is a lot of money being generated from the current state of peoples general health and the perception around what is healthy. Any contrarian advice is going to struggle to see the light of day with the combined clout of those industries protecting their revenues. Bottom line one needs to invest a little time in developing your own ideas about what is and isn't good for you.
  19. and the world was once flat according to everybody, could it be that perhaps, maybe there is a chance that all these 'medically qualified outliers' might possibly be onto something ? It seems to me that the traditional advice of most world health organisations, dieticians, Dr's and cardiologists seems to have done nothing to avert the increase in heart illness related deaths in the last 30 years - who is to blame the patient's or the advice , because surely if they where getting sound advice we wouldn't be staring ever increasing numbers around this issue ?
  20. jeez I must be dof then cant see what it is !
  21. thanks, will have a look.
