  1. Apologies BBi, didnt see your post until now. Raced on Saturday, small turnout, but fun nevertheless. My lighties each got 2nd overall, so there was peace in the house! Will post some pics..
  2. Kids are never too young Intense Mini BMX... 20inch skinny wheels, but very small frame...
  3. Jeez, thats what a hero dad is... one who is willing to make his name tot for his kids sake.... I live for my boys... even if every adult in the world laughs at me for what I get up to with them, as long as my boys think what Im doing is cool, thats all that matters..
  4. Good memories Velo, my arch rival rode a hutch when I raced.. Gary, I saw a old school GT frame somewhere on the net in SA, will try and track it for you.. That garage stash haunts my dreams Especially since I sold my Kuwahara for R100 in 85!
  5. You and me both Gary... I have a line on a dead standard Kuwuhara mini, chrome with red from the 80's. Even has the original Dia Compe brakes... Bugger wont sell it though. I got one of the first Kuwahara BMX bikes in SA via Basil at Deale n Huth... ( 80/81 I think ) When ET came out I was the hero in the neighnorhood! Raced for a few years at Alrode, Lonehill, Kadimah etc. Even raced a Cresta night race on a friday night as well once or twice.. Bmx kept me of the streets for my entire high school career and for that reason I am so chuffed that my 8 yr old has taken to it. And having said that ALL NOVICE BMX RIDERS WELCOME THIS SATURDAY AT WELTEVREDEN CHAPEL BMX TRACK FOR A MORNINGS RACING
  6. Bump, racing this Saturday. All welcome
  7. Thanks Johan, most appreciated.
  8. So my GT secondhand/bought from the hub, donated by kind souls has been built and I rode it this weekend. Very chuffed what I got fro 2k all in. Now for the advice part. Have a shorter stem and low rise bar ( thanks slowpoke ) than on my previous frame as I need to ride a little more relaxed. ( I have long since accepted that I will never be a marathon/Epic racer rider ) as the flatter postion was killing my neck. Am still feeling that my bars/stem are too low. Rode my mates bike, almopst identical geometry and size frame and it was much better. He has 2 large and 2 smaller spacers under his stem. My fork was tweede hands and as such the steerer was cut. Can only really get one small spacer under the stem. So question is, would a stem with more degree rise help matters? Would it be the same as having more spacers or would the handling be affected? Twitchy etc? Advice most appreciated
  9. No laughs Hog, thats a really inventive idea... Spring should be at exact height to maintain your normal seatpost and return to correct height when released. Can see it, ridin along, reach down, loosen QR clamp, push down on seat with bum until desired height is reached and tighten QR clamp.. Release QR clamp when finshed jumping, etc, etc and the seatpost returns to set height! You are a genius Now to just get over this frame drilling move....
  10. Fark, me too... have donated.. Think about it, that might just have been you..
  11. The amount of personal bests and African records that were set by our sportsman and woman say it all for me.
  12. My first son had mega toys long before he was born... Took him a few years to catch up and of course I played with the scalectrix, trains etc for a long time.... just to make sure they worked! And I bought the toys long before I knew if it was a boy or girl.... But of course the girls also ride BMX and kick some butt in the boys classes as well.. Love watching 4 X, but havent really seen anything here besides perhaps Dirtopia etc?
  13. Sean, will do. At this stage every second month.. The HVC... classes from 4yrs to 16 plenty... OX.. not that I know of... BMX SA only lists the 4 official tracks in Gauteng.. Kempton, Germies, Alrode and HOC ( Hector Norris Park ) BBi.. great stuff.
  14. Yip me too bud, my business is open on a Saturday and the missus works on a Saturday.. I just leave my staff in charge and pray
  15. Posted here and in events to get max reading.. So after everyone is all pumped up about how well Skizo has performed.. ( and he did, an Olympic final is really the top, top 0.01% of riders ), this is an invite to get more youngsters riding. The Chapel track in Weltevreden Park is a feeder track for the bigger tracks in Gauteng. Feeder track in that it has only 6 starting gates, the starting hill is not as high, the jumps are rideable for for the 4 yr old lighties and the track is only 260 mtrs odd long. My lighties ( 8 and 6 )started riding the track this year after we sold all our quad bikes and I am amazed at the improvement in bike control, sportsmanship and bonding that has taken place. My 8 yr old woke ME up at 3.30am this morning to watch the finals and stayed awake until we went to school. Skizo posters have already replaced the quad and bike pics on his walls. The Chapel is on the grounds of a church ( The Chapel Church ) and as such is run and owned by the church. Kevin from Cycle Fusion just down the road has really worked hard to get racing going for the kids in this area. Back to the feeder part..... Some of the tracks in Gauteng are just too far for some parents ( petrol and time ), and possibly the size of the tracks and the jumps are just too much for some of the kids. Around about 30 of the kids have graduated to racing at Alrode, Germies etc. Track is ideal for all and Sundry on PnP specials, heavy BMX trick bikes, racing snakes lightweights and MTB for the older boys and lunatic fathers. Next race is next Saturday the 30th of August. Registration from 8 to 9 pm. Racing should kick of at 10am and is normally finished by 1pm ( depending on numbers ). Format is 3 heats and a final. R10 entry fee, number boards available with small deposit. No trick foot pegs on bikes and at the very least helmet is required. Long pants and shirt are good.... Mine ride with motocross pants, helmet etc. Track is on church grounds so try and leave the beer for afterwards in the pub down the road. The atmosphere is very relaxed, very informal and fun, fun, fun. So after this long spiel, lets see many, many Dads and Moms who are not sure what to do with the kids in the north/west to come and try out the track. The track has a Skate park ( Metal half pipes, etc ) as well. Dads and big brothers are welcome to try the lunatic class... Ages from 4 yrs up get a class. Enough kids and the classes are split into novice and expert. Track is open for practice from 2pm to 5 pm Wednesdays and Fridays, and 10am to 4 pm on Saturdays. R10 entry fee. Small shop on site for snacks. Cycle Fusion ( Kevin ) - 011-679 5171 The Chapel Church - 011 679 3042 Track/Church is 3 John Vorster Road Just up the road from the PNP Randpark Ridge. Just behind the Shopping centre On Northumberland ( Rock Cottage intersection ) KDEE2008-09-01 07:58:49
  16. As Jules posted, I am also seeing only statements from the family and not the rider himself... Unless I missed it, I cannot recall the rider being quoted. Perhaps we need to amend our views for now. Might turn that the rider thinks exactly like we do and hell, he might just deserve our support in some way......................
  17. Jeez, this makes me feel good. My bike is there at the moment getting sorted, feel good that the shop is recommended.
  18. A confirmed lunatic then A bargain 24" is on my list... BMX is serious bonding time with my two boys..
