  1. I think it would be a good idea to arrange a "tech night" group of us get together, have 2 bikes that need some work done, the owners can learn how to do it themselves, with those of us who know what we are doing showing them the ropes. A few beers, some meat on the braai and helping each other. I will sponsor the centurion venue........
  2. it is great for oiling wood 185 liters should last a while
  3. what does a 185kg drum go for?
  4. well looking at saseeding he finished 3rd overall at Clarens, running top 10 at Sani2c and 15th in the ultra at Sabie. Not to shabby.
  5. get to the front, put on your thick skin you will be abused for passing people, eventually you will have a seeding that will allow you to start with people riding at your pace. Always scream passing right, before passing on the right. What ever you do, don't pass on the left for some reason the rider in front always goes left what ever you shout, or they just flip you the bird and flame you on the hub afterwards. When passing in single track pick areas where there is long grass, rocks, anthills, trees and fallen logs to execute your pass, it will keep the blood flowing and bring huge enjoyment to the single track section, not to mention the technical riding experience you will get. End of the day try start with guys riding your pace
  6. The SA Seeding system takes an average your top 3 results and uses this formula to calculate your seed for every event Ri = 100 - 100 x Winning Time (in seconds) x Race Weight Finish Time (in seconds) Now each event has a weighting based on the distance you do and popularity of the event. Trouble is that your first race will have you in one of the last 2 batches, so your result is not going to be earth shattering and you are going to be called all sorts of names when you pass people. Your 2nd and 3rd race will have a slightly better seeding, and every race that you get a better result will improve your seeding. Eventually you will start with like minded people and the guys happily cruising at the back will stop swearing at you, looking for you on the podium and find someone else trying to get a better seeding to direct their energy at. But until your index is way better, you will continually be abused every time you pass someone in the single track, lurkers in the long grass will be waiting for you and bottlenecks will continually break your rhythm. Point is I enter a race to do exactly that, race...... continually improve my performance, measuring myself against other "racers", in order to do that i need better results, every second counts to a better seeding.
  7. but they got a better seeding B)
  8. mine has been loaded, finally dropped quite a bit, lets see where we seed for rooiberg. I Keep finishing in the top third starting from the last batch
  9. to seed better you need to finish the race better,.........
  10. The seeding system sucks, Started in K and the bottlenecks where silly, Had to pass so many people and was stationary for 8 minutes, without stopping at the water points. Frustrating day
  11. Well I am in K for the half, not sure if there is a L batch so could be 80 to a batch
  12. I am running std protection x-king tyres on 2 bikes, one the knoblies ripped off, leaked sealant and got replaced, The other not a days problem. Both running stans
  13. Worked through my LBS Tool-up Cycles, took 3 days and everything was sorted
  14. take it back, Conti replaced mine under warranty, this is also linked to the leaking look carefully at the sidewall you can see the canvas through the rubber.
  15. 63 index and starting in K, at least I can sleep in
  16. wasn't me.... I say keep the river but add more rocks to the mud
  17. I saw 4 guys on the route not sure if they where hubbers though, I was busy carrying my Kawasaki up the koppie so did not get a chance to chat to them, I did chat to the owners and they are busy cutting the next 20kms as well
  18. you can ride in the week as well, but they may not be someone there to point you onto the right route. The markers are yellow ( if you see red or green markers you are on the dirtbike track, which is going to hurt... a lot). Keep the yellow markers on your left and follow the route. I pre rode it on a hardtail with solid forks, it was a bit grassy and bumpy, but the guys have had a few dirt bikes go round the loop, with a few more dirtbikes riding it in the week, so by the weekend the grass will be flattened. Rocky, that area is very rocky but the route winds its whay through the rocks, I would say you are riding on dirt 90% of the time the other 10% on rocks and water. Best to check it out and pass your criticism to the owners, they are looking to build a safe haven for 2 wheeled dirt enthusiasts. Just remember this is virgin bushveld with the route being cut into the bush, you are not following car tracks or cattle foot paths
  19. pieter1, no not the same place as the 4X4 trail. Wild West has always been a dirt bike venue, there are no routes there for 4x4 or quads for that matter.
  20. guys pull in this weekend it is open Directions Directions- Midrand William Nicol past Diepsloot, under N14 Krugerdorp highway, past Zenex garage on right, Take left split towards Harties R511, 6.3Km dirt road right Gerardsville, 1.5Km on dirt road, sign on left to parking. Thanks, and we hope to see you out there.
  21. Hey everyone, I had the chance to pre-run the trail last night and I had a blast! short summary of the loop is as follows Short uphill from the start to get the blood pumping, turning right into a fairly long downhill. The downhill switches between trees and rocks with a few sweeping turns into jumps and a dropoff ( nothing hectic you can ride down the dropoff). At the end of the down hill you wind your way through a cluster of trees getting ready for the first river. At the first river you have the option of riding down the riverbed or sliding down it on your bum. Just kidding, river is flat rock and about 50m long. The next section I call Dentist Downhill very bumpy due to the very rocky path, twice as bad as a french cobble street and starts with a log to bunny hop over, ensure your fillings are all in place before hitting this at pace! Now you enter the second river section, this one is a little deep and muddy, with short stretches of smooth rock, river is about 80m long, once out the river you turn right onto a short stretch of dirt road before crossing back over the river to start the first climb. From here it is a mix of gentle hills, with short steep uphills and downhills, switching left and right through the trees, and crossing the river for the last time, now the grind starts, you work your way uphill through a maize of rocks, before sliding down a short hill to the parking lot. All in all an action packed 5kms, and in my opinion this has the potential of becoming a great bushveld trail. So pull in this weekend and check it out. (PS the beers are always cold at Wild West)
