  1. Yes Slowbee, the 10 spd link will work. I am using one on a Campagnolo chorus chain and cassette at the moment.
  2. Please show me a 10spd powerlink. I'll take a photo of mine tonight
  3. Oh, and I seriously suggest putting a power link on your chain. That way you can quickly take the chain off, put it in a glass bottle of degreaser, and wash it properly.
  4. If you ask JB, he'll tell you to pull the dipstick out your cars engine and let the oil drip onto your chain.
  5. Thank JB. This is fantastic information. Would you mind if I copied and pasted it into an article for our clubs newsletter??? Alfa things happen?......Hmmmmm. I'll leave that bit out though
  6. I agree with TheRev. make sure that the limit screw (should be labelled "L" for that chainring) is not limiting the movement of the derailleur. This is the most likely cause seeing as you say you hev already tried adjusting the cable tension.
  7. Johan, sometimes we really under estimate the genius that you are. By keeping quite and not replying to my questions, you knew that the best way i would learn was to make mistakes and learn from them. Like a father showing a misguided son the light, little grasshopper is learning. So, because of your sheer genius, i have answered the first two questions myself and am amazed at the simpicity and ease of maintainence of the Campagnolo design. You can still help me with the last one though because little grasshopper has run out of resources for this one.
  8. Why???? The cam shafts only showed slight wear after 300 000kms and the head is still perfect. When a mechanic says Alfas are k@k he describes his abilities more than the vehicle!!!!
  9. JB, there's no time to take time off when there are hubbers out there with burning technical questions!!! I need help, but i will first ask you about my bicycle problems : 1) I have a campy chorus chain that i took off another bike and now want to put it on my new bike. Is it safe to just link the chain with the existing half pressed out pin or should i rather put a power link? 2) I used to ride a 9 speed and had to put a spacer before fitting the cassette. I now have a 10 speed cassette, so i left off the spacer and only put the thin one that came with the new cassette but after tightening the lock ring, the sprockets are still loose. Do i have to find a different thickness spacer now??? 3) Okay, off topic but here goes. I have a 1972 Alfa Romeo and the cast iron cam shafts run directly in contact with the aluminium head. There are no bearings at all. Why does the cast iron cam shaft wear out before the aluminium head?? Someone once told me that it is all to do with lubrication, and that lubricated aluminium will outlast anything when there is friction involved.
  10. Greetings I am building up my bike this weekend with a mixture of Chorus and Record but have a few questions: 1) How does the quick release on Campy brakes work? 2) Which is the brake cable housing? There are two types of cable housing, the one that looks like a coil all compressed and the one with wires that run around the circumference of the housing. I am assuming the one with the wires around the circumference is for the shifter cable. 3) Any other useful info you could give me before i attempt this task? The first thing I noticed when looking at the Ergo levers is that Campy's design is a lot simpler than Shimano's.
  11. if he keeps breaking them then why doesnt he try a different bike??????
  12. Well done in admitting fault NEWBY0007. I've also ordered some stuff from ignious and he was flippen organised. Should get my bars in the post soon!!!!!!!
  13. Spokes create turbulance, fewer spokes creat less turbulance and no spokes create almost no turbulance. Any form of turbulance leads to a less aerodynamic profile.
  14. Thanks guys, I really appreciate your time taken to answer my questions
  15. I have a bit of a strange question, will a campy chainring and chain be compatable with a Shimano cassette, or are the spacings of the campy chain different to a shimano chain. In others words, I'm worried that the campy chain will not "align" and mesh with the teeth on the shimano cassette.
  16. Aaaah, JB, the voice of reason. I never thought of wheel flex, thats fantastic reasoning!!! You've also just jogged my memory: While watching the TDF I remember Solier putting his quick release back after one of the monster climbs, just in case of brack block rub!!!! Thanks JB, thats one i can tick off the list!
  17. If a pig loses it's voice, is it disgruntled? BWA HAHHAHAHA!!!!!
  18. And, would people really just call him Pat if Postman Pat was fired????
  19. Oh no, now you've just added to my list of things that drive me crazy!!! Like, what happens if a mime loses his voice but is sick of his job???
  20. I saw an advert in Bicycling magazine the other day advertising helmets or something and it had this cool looking dude riding a Kuota but the brake caliper quick release was in the "up" position. I thought to myself "At least get the technical bits right for the flippin advert!" But 2 days later I saw a pic of Robbie Hunter riding Barloworlds Bianchi with the quick release in the up position!!!! WTF!?!?!?!? Have I being doing it wrong all the time??? Surely it needs to be in the down position so that when you need to remove the wheel you can open the calipers?? Somebody please tell me...this is driving me nuts!?!?!
  21. Oh, and another thing, All Scotts ali frames are made with 7005 double and tripple butted tubing. A lot of ather manufacturers don't use quality tubing like that on their frames. To sum it up: GO FOR IT!!! You do pay a little more for a 105 Scott compared to a 105 something else, but its because of the excellent quality frame that you pay for...
  22. Hi PappaBear I've got a Scott Speedster S2 and i must say, they are fantastic. Scott is known for making excellent frames and whats more, they come with the CR1 carbon fork. The ONLY reason why im selling mine is because my boet is buying a new carbon frame for me from the UK. The thing i like about them the most is the frame finish, their smooth welding is one of the best ive ever seen!!!
  23. Toyota Bakkie diesels are good but they they are heavy on fuel. In terms of engine longevity, Isuzu is probably the best. Our company bought a fleet of 7 and every single one of them has done more than 500 000km. Thats the reason I own one now. They are definitely the best when it comes to fuel economy, this is due to the direct injection motor design. It makes them a little noisier, but its a bakkie for goodness sake.
  24. Why don't you get it Gunn coated (also known as Cal Guarding), then you can get it any colour you want. Must say though, silver Cal Guard looks awesome. It is also done with a high temp baking process and is very hardwearing. I do up classic cars and get everything Cal Guarded. You can put a clearcoat afterwards if you want to.
