  4. Hey kingjreid, I seriously suggest you go in a LARGE group up this hill otherwise if you cant organise some mates to do it with you, perhaps consider getting someone to follow behind you in a car. (I assume you train early morning) Its just not worth it. They will assult you just to get a cellphone or anything that could be of value in your pockets. Even if you dont carry anything, they dont know that and could still try take you out. Not a nice situation i know.... You arent perhaps the same j reid that bought a Truvative MTB crank from mybike are you?????
  5. Bobbie aren't you supposed to be training for Tour Durban
  6. Yep, safety in numbers, cannot stress that enough. I got to Delcairn center and 2 mates who where supposed to join me bailed for some or other reason. So i thought i might as well ride seeing as I'm already here. Oh well luckily nothing happened. Last week a friend of mine was bikejacked in Durban North. A guy hit him side on, on another bicycle, knocked him over and took what he thought was a cell phone. All he got was a spare tube...
  7. Just a warning to those guys who cycle up Bothas Hill on weekends, I was almost the victim of a "bikejacking " on Saturday morning at about 06:15. We have been warned before about this, I know, but luckily due to these warnings I was able to get away. The bikejackers wait for you on the second corner where the hill gets to its steepest part and then jump out the bushes and try to push you over and grab the stuff out your shirt pockets. I think their timing was a bit off because i heard them jump the armco and then saw them run towards me as i looked over my shoulder. So there I was, out the saddle sprinting up Bothas to get away, I think i would've made Pantani look like a sloth next to me, Ha ha. But jokes aside, I will only be going up there in a group from now on. Good bit of hill sprint training but not such a nice experience!!!!
  8. 68 Giulia Sprint completed project
  9. Yep, GT junior 1600 with a 2 litre motor in now. There is nothing more beautiful than 2 sidedraught webers with trumpets feeding a twin cam motor!!!!!
  10. But seriously though, I agree with you about the speed thing. For me handling and a torquey motor are more important than speed 10 fold. Also for me the most important is appreciation of the engineering. Alfa pioneered the alloy engine block and the casting is so complicated very few have even tried to copy it. Its about appreciating the finer things in life: Fine woman, fine wine, fine art and i don't drink nor am i interested in art.
  11. 72? Brilliant car! Ever had fuel go into the oil filler cap? Not too many '72s around anymore - Targa or Coupe? What colour? Noooooooooooo, 72 ALFA ROMEO of course. I dont drive a glorified Volkswagen....err I mean Porsche....
  12. With that I fully agree!!!! I get a huge thrill from driving my '72 and that sound....absolutely awesome!
  13. Oh well, at least you've got a fast bike
  14. Well done eliminator. You are right about education though, that applies to almost everything in life let alone correct disposal methods...
  15. The 80's 911's (not sure of the exact year) were fed large doses of bright orange carrots. The 924 sucked and came about last. We wont speak about the Subarus...they flippen creamed everyone down to the GT2.
  16. If the funds fo to the SPCA count me in as well!!!! Heck I'll go naked and take the Campy bits off my bike so she's naked too!!!!
  17. It was in Westmeade, Durban. Porsche club pitched up as well as Subaru club. The Porsches included some 924's (Audi engine...I know) some 80's 911's as well as a 60's Speedster. There were also the newer ones there: The 2001 911 (Bi-turbo...not sure) and a GT2.
  18. A friend of mine once left his wheels at home and only realized when we got to Cape Town for the Argus. We had driven from Durban.....heee
  19. With respect to solvents etc, find out if there is a depot in your area where you can drop it off and let the guys who know what they're doing dispose of it. I enquired at the refinery and they gave me a name of a depot not too far from where i live. I take all my unwanted old oil and paraffin to them to dispose of.
  20. DR.... GRRRR actually that was pretty funny..... What bike do you ride???
  21. Are you trying to compare fine Italian engineering to uncharasmatic Japanese mass production??? Thats like having the words Ferrari and Volkswagen in the same sentance. The two cannot be placed next to one another in any way let alone compared, its just wrong, on all levels.
  22. Went to a hillclimb on Sunday, the 2 litre Alfas gave the Volkswagens.....er i mean Porsches real carrots... Brilliant to watch!!!
  23. I have to admit that this is a sensitive topic. Some will say that the wax type lubricants aren't really lubricants, and with this i do agree. So I once tried putting some Castrol GTX, (left overs from my cars oil supply) I only put a little bit on and went for a ride the next day. I found so much grit and cr@p stuck to my chain that i will never go this route again. I think the other "lubes" are better because there is nothing worse than this grinding paste in your chain. That wears it out quicker than an under lubed chain I'm sure....
  24. No, after a while the plastic gets scratched and then you cant see how pretty your chain looks indegreaser!!!
