  1. Can you imagine hitting a jump with a bike that light, and you forget that you on the bike cause its so light under you and you ploeg face first
  2. the fork Im already looking to replace, im only worried if it will clear the rear triangle, I went to two bike shops in pretoria and they didnt even know what i was talking about. I would of liked to get my hands on a rear wheel and tyre to check if it would clear before I spend the cash.
  3. Hi guys im looking for ideas of places where i can take the family away for weekends that are also great for us to take our mountain bikes. thanx for any ideas
  4. My Trek ex5 weighs in at 13kg with slx components, I recon if i upgrade my front shock(recon silver) and my rims(alexis) I should be able to bring it down to around 12kg
  5. here is mine
  6. hey guys where is this track in waterkloof
  7. Cool thanx guys , definitely gonna try it out tomorrow, need to improve on my hill climbing.
  8. Okay so there is no parking there, and if the entrance is free how do they keep the criminals out, is there any security.
  9. Hi guys I've been thinking about riding around fort klapperkop, is it safe, and how good are the trails
  10. i went the cheaper and old school route, two years now and still perfect. I wrapped a bit of insulation tape around the rims just to cover the spokes, then i fitted a tube a bit smaller than the rim around the rim, pumped it up with a bit of air, the tube has a seam line, line the seam up with the centre of the rim, take a scissor and cut the tube along the seam, the tube folds over the rim, fit the tyre put in a bit of sealant and blow the tyre up with a bomb or compressor, then you just cut the left over tube that hangs out with a blade. Perfect seal
  11. Hi I rode there this morning, felt like I had the hill to myself, and I actually enjoyed it.Managed to get 20kms out of the trails, I think once you understand which trail flows into the next it will be a lot of fun. A lot of technical uphills ,and the single tracks can get quite technical as well, the entrance was R20 will definitely be goin back.
  12. I was on the web today looking at different size rim options for mtbs , the 650b rim is in between a 26inch and a 29r and apparently they fit on 26 inch bikes maybe with a fork change, I'm looking at what options I have at upgrading my bike,so it's all about research.
  13. hey guys can i fit 650b rims on my trek, how do i workout if it will clear, and if need be what do i need to change.
  14. that's bad news, I love fountains, I was riding there alone in December and met up with one of the guys that maintain the place walking along the track, asked him about the fence, he says the gautrain is responsible for repairing the fence cause they damaged it. they have guards sitting on there bums by both entrances checking up on us, instead of putting a guard or two where its needed. I also remember quite a while back the cops use to do random patrols in that area, haven't seen there for quite a while now. hope they dont let it get out of control
  15. Thanks guys for all the advice, I'm not over weight and not the tallest of guys,I've ridden a couple of 29ers don't really feel comfortable on them, and since I'm not doing mtb as a profession I don't see the need to spend a ridiculous amount of money on a carbon bike. I love doing technical tracks and I love my bike it works for me. I'm definitely gonna look around for a good set of rims, and a better fork and shock.
  16. Hey guys my ride is a trek fuel ex 7 full suspension,as it stands now it weights just over 13kgs, my group set is full slx , front shock is a rock shock recon silver 120mm travel, and Alex rims with cross mark tubeless tyres. I weigh 76kgs, I know my rims are on the heavy side but I don't know what I can upgrade to that will make a big difference that can take the the same punishment as my current rims, the front shock can also be upgraded, but for my weight it works quite well, what else can I improve on?
  17. Hi Mark i am obviously not a professional cyclist but i spin twice a week at high intensity ,and then i do long rides with my mates over the weekends. the problem was that i felt fine during the whole race, didn't get hungry either, was also taking in a chew at least every 30 mins. The problem came after the last water point when i drank the coke thinking it would give me the extra boost to the finish, it wasn't 10 minutes my legs just gave up , and i felt nauseous
  18. Thanx guys. Im doing van gaalens in two weeks time, any tips
  19. I wanted to try a 70km race ive done quite well in the 40 s, and you only know if you can once you try. just glad i finished , I was also trying to pace myself, maybe if i hadnt paced myself i would of bonked earlier
  20. hi guys for the pace i was riding i would of finished around the 3 hr mark and because of my bonk i finished just under four hours, the last couple of kms felt like eternity, and the loose sand at the end nearly killed me.i do eat alot of pasta the week before the race, funny thing is when i got home i climbed on the scale to see if i lost weight, and i actually put on a kilo, maybe water retention not sure , it was hot out there
  21. Hi all i did the diamond rush marathon at cullinan this weekend, it was my first 70km. can someone tell me where i went wrong. I carbo loaded two days before saturday with 32 gi, had future life for breakfast with no sugar ,a bottle a 32 gi on my bike and water in my pack,at every watering hole except for the last one i had a glass of 32 gi. at the last watering hole there was about 11 kms left i decided to have a glass of coke,it wasnt 20 minutes,i lost all my energy ran out of water and almost felt like dying. I did not finish well at all, was it the coke? forgot to mention i also had 32 gi chews on me which i too every 30 mins, they did not help me at the end. thanx for your feed back
  22. hi guys i bought standard tubes that were a size smaller than the rim, fitted the tube around the rim, pumped it up and then cut the tube with a scissor down the middle along the seam, fitted my tubeless tyres over the cut tube with a bit of sealant and pumped the tyre up with a foot pump, perfect seal and no leaks,it works better than the kits you buy and cheaper. when you done you just cut the excess tube hanging over the sides with a blade.
