  1. I been trying something new and don't use km on my device main screen anymore. I have time of day ,heart rate and that's about it. This for some reason puts my mind in the "just go" mind set and not worry how time/km etc. (I don't race to win, so time covered don't really matter) For me its : Keep heart rate in the "go far zone" and just enjoy the ride.
  2. 361 km sounds lot shorter than 2 x 180km's ... :-) Starting to get nervous now, doc check did not go to well, so going for follow-up on Friday (cutting bit tight).. not been on bike for week (resting injuries) .. gonna be a interesting funride.
  3. probably started bare feet and ended with bear feet
  4. Training on a go- slow, nursing to many injuries But hopefully base still enough for slow long slog and injuries healed by then
  5. ok, so there 22 entries now hope pics up a bit
  6. Haha Yup, R50 refund offered (as i want todo the watf), or give it to there charity
  7. Most other PPA events that been cancelled had full refund. So lets wait and see :-)
  8. Corrected link http://www.pedalpower.org.za/events/pedal-power-association-140/
  9. See sportiff is now cancelled and now called WATF .. sorry WACT Hope they refund us that already entered.
  10. It would be so nice if all the Naysayer actually go sit in the JOC (Join operation center) one day when one of the countless meetings takes place sorting out all the nigley nonsense for this funride. People forget that every little thing must be discusses, approved, orderered, installed and returned. From the name boards to the napkins (size, color, single, double, recyclable etc) at the end. To simply "move" a event aint a overnight thing. Just the IT side is many months as new high sites for connectivity must be installed, tested and retested. (not to mention trying to get telkom to get stuff done in few months). Took us more than year to get just the medical aid stations to have enough connectivity on the day so that real time medical data can be obtained. (Temporary vodacom towers eveywhere) . Now add other things like generators, golf carts, tents, chairs, fencing security etc etc. I would guess, it will be 2 - 3 years for things to change, if they change. But for now, lets just hope that we can do this funride again next year.
  11. The fact that most of people in my start group could not wait to get out the shute with faces of relieve supports the decision to cancel, i really was not in mood to crash today and the unfortunately fact is there would have been many today.. There always next year, rather sulking at home, ready to ride tomorrow than sulking, broken in hospital
  12. Just take bike rack off and lock in car, known to steal bike racks there...we'll probably everywhere
  13. I did 3:12 last year starting 6:31 and still faffed about for ages. Last group took AGES to get out the shoot. So guess 3:30 is still ok
  14. Did support riding for both days... Learned few things Tubes apparentley multiply if thrown away and left to grow No need to test you tools before a race, they will just work on your bike A quick ride around the block after changing components is enough to test it before long race Removable valve cores are the bees knees, they never unscrew ------------ The back markers on 55km was really suffering at the end... Wish there were some more food at waterpoints as those guys really needed some :-) All and all very nice event, def do again!
  15. I'll see you both days. Thanks, but 30k don't work , maybe private?
  16. There are many apps that can do just this. But if you have IOS , just use find friends. If you have google, use the build in family/friend locater (cant remember name now). if you wanna go racetec route, install there app, load the event, then add your name as person you want to follow. It does work sometimes L:
  17. Do anyone know if marshall is allowed to control /stop traffic? I cannot find anything in law(not search enough though), only that cyclist must listen to a marshall .. not traffic must listen.
  18. Edit: Let me just get my facts straight
  19. Thnaks brakkies, you offered your water to me as well.. Luckily i had enough left.. Would definitely also recommend another water point just after the long walk
  20. Thanks Dale, ice and rest hope for the best!
  21. Yup, brilliant race as per normal A group, thanks for ride, sorry had to bail .. knee packed up again. 37.5km/h average over first 75km, 15km/h average over last 25km :-) At least now i'm true 99er, walked visershok for the first time!!
  22. Nope, but I rather redo a race than lie in hospital bed. For me its always safety first, there always another day for a race.
  23. Someone actually drove into person next to me on the Durbi Dash .. Doctor nogals. Luckily no harm done.
