  1. My fellow inmates, Does anybody else think it's in rather poor tastes to be receiving Early Bird eantry requests in these rather testing times? I think the Comms' machine of Tankwa Trek, TransCape and Cycle Events should be a little more sensitive to our current situation in the country. Or maybe it is just me! Stay safe and stay at home....
  2. Hi At almost 100kg, I changed from XTR to SRAM Guild as the XTR could not cope and overheated, even with Icetech rotors and pads. Since changing, I never had any issues and think the brakes are great. Certainly more modular the XTR which to me, feel on/off. Any future breaks will always be SRAM for me. Hope that helps?
  3. At aged 45 did the exact swop you talking about. I can't believe I waited so long. Over 40 you allowed dual sus. My brother at 43 has now done it too and agrees we waited to long.... You will be comfortable and so much faster downhill. Hard tails are for the Spur School league and proper racing snakes. Just do it!
  4. Hi I have a Rock Shox Reverb, stealth in need of a new home. Used once and in as new condition. If you interested, drop me a line. Thanks Marc
  5. I did it last year and for me it disappointed. No gees.... Good trials, but certainly not great trials. There are so many good events now....
  6. My wife seems to attract them. She sees a snake more often than I care to know. Might be in her head as she was bitten once as a kid. Anyhow on one (of a few) actual sightings in Tokia she came across a Puffy on the single track that goes beside the road that climbs up from the start. I was ahead of her, she screams, I stop and walk back and there is the rather large lad crossing the path. Must have been crossing because I just passed there a few second earlier. Anyhow, here's the thing. The snake moved into a tuft of grass in the middle of the path. It went in and never came out. Do you think I could see it once in the grass? Impossible.... Eventually it moved off and onto the otherside of the path. With such amazing camouflage, I'm positive we cycle past them all the time and never even notice. Scary stuff! But this is Africa!
  7. Hi Personally, I really like the TomTom because its simple and gets the job done. I agree its not for elite athletes, but there are other products the cover that genre. For me the biggest issue with the TomTom is when uploading data to the computer. For some reason it purges the data off the watch (storage space I guess) - before confirming its actually on the computer. I have lost a few session because of this and gone back to my Garmin. For example, if you plug it in to charge via USB on computer and your computer is not online or sleeping, it then connects to your computer and uploads the data - but as you not online the data goes nowhere but is still purged off your watch... and lost forever. I have flagged this with TomTom, but lets see how that goes. In summary - Great watch, nice a simple and does what it says on the box. However there are some gremlins and its certainly not for elite athletes or endurance athletes, due to battery life. To be fair my Garmin 600 only gets around 8 hours too. Hope that helps? Marc
  8. My super nice Scott - Fully pimped, just need to ride it now And the Mrs - Equally as pimped and equally as unridden
  9. Hi, I have rented and riden many times in Spain. Never riden on Marbella, so can't comment on that. Generally roads are excellent and motorists are very polite and safe. A real contrast to SA. The norm is to take your own pedals and shoes. I would take your own helmet too... They bikes are normally Carbon with 105 compacts and in good condition. My only reservation for you is August is very hot, but if you don't mind that, then you won't regret it. Check out wikiloc.com for some trails. Hope that helps. Marc

  11. I would like to say a big thank you to Steve Bowman from Cycle Lab Cape Town. My wonderful Scott 29er developed a small problem and dispite me not buying it from CL, Steve handled the entire warranty process and handed me a new bike in next to no time. A big up to you Steve!
  12. http://mc2cycling.co.za is the club concerned. Disgusting behavior and undoes all the good work PPA does for safe road cycling. In my view all club members should be barred from the Argus unless they identify the guilty parties and then PPA should ban those members for life... We don't need savages like that in our peloton.
