  1. Thanks for the info everyone. Dropped my forms off on Wednesday and it was fast and painless. Went back on Thursday to collect the permit, that took about 45mins. You hand your Id over, then wait to be called. If your photo is not on the system then you need to take one. (Helpful hint, don’t move the chair when you sit to take the photo, the guy gets really upset because his camera is set at the perfect distance to the chair). Painless process all in, staff were friendly, I didn’t move the chair! Felt a bit bad for the staff, they were getting a bit of abuse for not allowing someone to fetch another persons permit, even after they explained that you need to fetch in person due to the photo and that you need to sign. rode ride, was nice to be back there. permit is also valid for 2years which is nice.
  2. Thanks, that is very helpful. Ordered the saris basic trainer and the speed sensor which can also be used as a cadence sensor. If I end up using this daily then I would consider upgrading to a smart trainer. hopefully by then I will have shed some kg’s and be under the max weight limit for more smart trainers. Currently saris is the only trainer with a rated weight limit that will support me and a bike up to 12kg.
  3. Thanks everyone. Will start looking for a road bike. 🙂 I’ve worked out the size (54-56) based on a bunch of online height to frame size calculators.
  4. I'm trying to lose weight and get a bit fitter so I can finally hit the trails on my MTB again. Decided to get a mag trainer and now I need a bike for it. I can't use the MTB (29er and I don't want to fork out for the trainer thru axel adapter). Should I get a fixie or road bike for the trainer? Primary objective is to lose weight and get fitter. In that order. Would also like to use it with zwift / rouvy. I've purchased a speed sensor to make this possible. 99% chance that the bike will be stuck to the trainer and never leave the house. I've been looking at 2nd hand bikes. (old 3x9 road bike or a Rook One fixie)
  5. I have https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/profile/5878
  6. Thanks, i'll get the loctite green. after removing the crank, there was also play in the bottom bracket so i've ordered the new bearings and bottom bracket from the US. Should arrive on Monday. Will add the loctite before installation of the new bearings though.
  7. After removing the crank, bearings are loose in the frame. Now I feel even more ripped off and feel like I should have spent the 8K on a new spin bike or a road bike and IDT How did you epoxy it? Remove the bearings, apply epoxy, put the bearings back and wait for the epoxy to set? I'm wondering if new bearings will work but I doubt it. Might try source some to try first but would still like to know your epoxy method please.
  8. Thanks for the advice. I've bought the tool. waiting for it to be delivered. Will try source new bearings locally first and hope that fixes it before I import the bottom bracket.
  9. Just says take it to a bike shop. It's a proprietary star trac bottom bracket which costs 80gbp so i don't think a bike shop can help but I will try, will be sure to leave him a review once I figure out what's wrong. I was skeptical seeing as he had over 100 items for sale over time but no good or bad reviews, but he's been a member since 2015 so I figured it should be fine.
  10. Actually watched this video before buying the bike. Seller was in a different province and I asked about the mechanical condition and was told that it was perfect. He lied and I'm 8.5K down Right now I'm just trying to get it fixed so i don't have an expensive lemon taking up space. It's a bit heavy to cart to a bicycle shop and i can't lift it due to shoulder surgery. Finding someone to come out to fix is proving difficult. seems to be loads of people in joburg but not in cape town. hindsight, should have gone with a roadbike and idt.
  11. I bought a spin bike recently off the hub which was "in great working condition"... I'm sure you know where this is going. It arrived and it's not. The Crank is loose, moves from side to side. I've tried to tighten it but it seems like it's the bottom bracket that is loose. If I tighten the chain, then the crank / bottom bracket makes a grinding sound which i'm sure is not good. I don't have a crank puller so can't remove the crank... Do I A. Find a crank remover, and see what's going on with the BB? B. Can someone recommend a spinbike mechanic in Cape Town that I can call? Bike is a Star Trac NXT (Looks like Gen3, not sure which one)
  12. Those GS's are such awesome bikes. Cannot fault them. Super Comfy, amazing on long trips and on gravel. and the best part... you don't feel any wind. Just talking about it and seeing your pics makes me miss my gs
  13. Got out for a quick ride to test how the shoulder holds up on a ride. I think the vibrations has helped the healing process ????
  14. Looks beautiful and sounds beautiful.
  15. pretty loud, something like 103db i'm guessing. there was no rev bombing going on. Just start and left it for 5mins.
  16. Do any of you guys have issue with neighbors complaining about your bike noise? have dislocated my shoulder so started the bike up yesterday and let her idel for about 5mins. (first time the bike has been started in 2 weeks) an hour later i got a call from the guard that people are complaining about the bike noise.
  17. They've always been retarded, you just noticing it more now. saw a guy go over a pedestrian walk way in a parking lot yesterday and not look left. he almost took out a little kid on his bicycle. The guy drove away and didn't even realize what he did.
  18. Thanks guys will check chain length and get the 3mm. This is just to accommodate the current amount of tar / pavement riding i'm doing. have seem to run out of gears. If the chain is short, might leave it and use not use the 50T in the back as i will prob need to go back to 32t to climb up the hills on the gravel. but if i do get fitter then will add the extra 2 links. That was the reason for the question.
  19. Hi I currently have a 32t chainring and want to swap out for a 34t chainring. I am a bit confused about which chainring to buy as I see they come in 3mm or 6mm. This is the crank that is currently on the bike: SRAM NX, Boost, direct-mount X-Sync The chainring just says: SRAM 32T Eagle technology x-sync 2 (no info about 0mm or 3mm or 6mm) and it is a NX 1x12 Also, would I need a longer chain?
  20. What 140mm did you fit? Did you also change the rear shock? If so, what size shock and which yoke?
  21. Hi Since Koeberg is still closed, I’m looking for a long flatish trail to ride this weekend. Can be loops if needed. Would like to get 40-50km in. Just looking for time in the saddle without having to ride on the road or kill myself on the climbs. So gravel/ Jeep track type of thing. If it has single track then bonus. Any suggestions?
  22. currently using the same ones from clicks.
  23. 1200 and standard screen. Tired low and high seat heights and all adjustable screen positions.
  24. Any Adventure bikers here? I sold the MV and bought a GS. 1st long ride yesterday, Pretty sure I've lost some hearing with the wind noise. Ear plugs helped but not by much. Any recommendations about the wind noise?
