  1. Hi everyone!

Just a shot in the dark, but im doing my first triathlon next weekend (70.3) and my shoulders struggle when im on the drops. I've tried adjusting my set up but i dont want to spend R1000 on a bike fit. Does anyone in the Cape Town area have a set of clip on Tri Bars I could borrow/hire for the race?

Let me know if anyone has a quick fix to not feeling like my shoulder is going to fall off after 20min :)

    Thanks!

I wouldn't recommend an entire change to your setup so close to a race, but if you have no choice then do the smallest changes possible.  Perhaps doing the bike setup here might help you a little, and it's a free, do-it-yourself option that I've only heard great reviews from.

I find that going to see a chiropractor helps with this sort of problem.  I suffer with sciatica and my chiro makes me feel like a new person after seeing him.

  2. Not mine but one of the dogs flown up by Husky Rescue from a high risk shelter in the Eastern Cape. Posting because she is absolutely stunning and a lovely nature to match. She is the 6th we have flown up since December and was surrendered because "She keeps getting out"  :cursing:

It saddens me how people can do something like that.  Change the gate, change your routine, do whatever but don't give your dog up

IanJ - do you perhaps know someone who can help with my lab.  She is one of 3 adoptees but giving me a lot of grief with digging and eating my plants.  I need to start changing her behavior or pave my garden.  The latter is not an option.

  3. Hey,

I have recently moved to the area and wouldn't mind someone else to join in on my rides. I do short distances at the moment, both Road and MTB. We are currently doing a 12/13km route on weekends that goes from 7th Ave, through Berario, Blackheath and up to Northcliff corner. We have coffee or breakfast at Isabella's and ride back through Linden, Cresta Shopping Centre, and back down past Northcliff cycles.

We aren't very good at consistency as its just two of us and I think that someone else being there will get us going more often.

Let me know if you are keen.

  4. I hope everyone has had some time to do good training... Other than 70.3 and IMSA, what other triathlons has everyone got planned for this year?

I'm starting with the Sasol Cross on 23rd of February

  5. I think this is a great initiative Wyatt. I've followed and tweeted.

I think we, as a global society, are always in too much of a rush because of the demand placed on us. This is a simple rule that we should follow in all aspects of our lives. Family, children, work. All of it.

  6. I think I'm going to give it a few weeks till January to decide whether or not it's for me. I did try the Gravity Pilates and that seems to give me quite a full-body work out. I'm not so good with doing things on my own at home so it's best that I go to a class

  7. Has anyone tried yoga for stretching after being on the bike quite a lot? I tried Anti-Gravity Yoga yesterday and seemed to walk off feeling more tender than before  .

Are there any long term benefits of Yoga and Pilates?

  8. I'm in Hyde Park - ride cradle most weekends. Riding MTB moddefontein this Sat and Sun at the cradle. Always space for more people! Cradle will be quiet this weekend... (no 94.7 last weekend training :P)

Thanks for the opeing, but I think my fitness levels are non-existent at the moment. Think there is quite a bit more training before I venture out to the Cradle. I will keep that in mind though.

  9. Thanks for starting the topic JGR.

So I've been struggling to get into training this year. So much has been happening. So... Anyone in the Randburg/Sandton area that is needing to start training from scratch can contact me.

I also need some motivation so anyone experienced that feels like helping out with some training tips to get me going, are free to do so

  10. I'm on Discovery's Key Care Plus, at R1490/month. I go to network GP's and hospitals and I pay almost nothing in. I can go to the GP as many times as I need, and as long as I get authorisation for hospital visits, it only costs me around R300 to check in.

I've had a number of procedures in the last few years (totaling over R80k) and my total pay in has been in the region of about R2500. It's really a great plan if you use if properly and follow their rules about procedures.
