  1. yeah sorry V12man is right. more specifically. When I say numb is ok I am not talking about anything other than the two bones you sit on. Number elsewhere with needles and pins is loss of blood flow and nerves being compressed...
  2. Thanks Nolipoli. Rockshox 29's would be the answer and then just space down to 80mm. Not so sure the 26er fox will have enough clearance. 26 regid will be perfect cause it will have the clearance. But dunno if I wanna go and buy a fork for such a specific use.
  3. most go numb. numb is not too bad. sore is bad edit: I must say I have also found the way I sit makes a big diffs. Just follow the logic in the clip above and when you position yourself on the seat make yourself purposefully sit on those twobpones in your rear. works a charm.
  4. I think... That he will go to trail but if it turns south he will be helped to skip the country. Somehow looking at his face I dont see him doing 25y in jail. imho. If you hit and run where there is a fatality, especially in this case where the accused could not argue he did not know he hit someone, there should be no bail. There is just no chance of the accused being innosent in this case. imo: drunk drivers should be charged not with DUI but rather immediately with attempted murder as that is exactly what they are doing. Yes I love a good bottle of wine. But def do not want to take other's lives into my hands. I would never be able to live with myself if I was to cause of harm to someone else. Be it on a bike or not.
  5. Disc brakes. The frame dont do V... >>Nolipoli. I was thinking 29 fork in 80mm will be almost the same as a 26 120 in Geo? I have a 26" fox and will see what the clearance is tonight. Have a feeling there is more clearance on the Ultra frame on the stays than there are on the fox fork...
  6. Steve, those are fairly heavy. May as well stay with the Giants I have laying around... Thanks Eldron, How would I know what would clear without having the tyre? The diameter (the 30 to 35mm) would most times be the same as the height from the rim right? So the tyre is more or less round? So can I use that as a guide? Or am I missing the point? Maybe just add couple of mm for the knobblies?
  7. good price. how is the knoblies holding up? and how do they roll on tar/hardpack?
  8. nice. where you get them?
  9. Thanks Maxx
  10. I was thinking of these http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=24614 think they will cover most bases maybe just wear out soon.
  11. Thanks Eldron. That makes sense. So one woul ultimately look for around x30 maybe max at 35?
  12. Anyone have a good cyclocross tyre suggestion? and how does the 700c sizing work? Sorry, never been a roadie. is 700cx30 a bigger volume tyre than a 700cx20 for instance? what is the x20 mean? 20mm? is that the height once pumped?
  13. Thanks Maxxis. was the kind of info I was after...
  14. Ok, so I have too many bikes Can one ever have? I have a KTM Ultra frame that I was going to build up into nice litte ride with a XT groupo but have decided one something else. I am thinking of turning her into a SS for town use. Last night I took my 29 back wheel and shuved it in the Ultra rear drop outs. The wheel does not turn but can go in with a little force wearing a new crossmark. This made me think. What if I put a slightly lower profile tyre on there, something somewhere between a slick and full mountain bike tyre. Something like the old black bike tyres, as this is really only for riding around town, it should work right? Anyone ever done that? To me the frame looks closer to a road frame anyways, al be it nicely fluid formed... What fork should I use then? A rigid carbon comes to mind in 26? I think the bottom line here is though. This frame would be a perfect candidate for 27.5inch wheels. Almost seems like it is made for it. Or rather seems like the geo is made for 700c
  15. that baby is very nice. can be blinged up as well... Congrads. Will always have a soft spot for a hybrid. Makes me think back to the "dikwiel" days. Loved my black dikwiel. We commuted three kids on it every day. One on handle bar and one on carrier with me the driver
  16. Thanks guys!
  17. New to town and just wondering which shop you guys would recommend in the area for bits and bobs...
  18. My Trance in the classifieds . Best bike for the moola bar none... Soon to be transported up to Gauteng... as in Monday...
  19. wow that is a stunning frame
  20. Get something 2nd hand. Ask someone that know bikes and that you trust to assist with the purchase. Try and be clever. Realise that some of the components you can upgrade as time goes by. So if you get a nicely specce'd bike with a crappy fork in your budget you may as well go for it. You can ride and get a 2nd hand fork in a few months for next to nada. same with wheels etc. What you wanna do is start with a nice'ish frame and groupset that will be reliable. So I would go Deore min. the rest you can add as time goes. Suppose same for the groupset but generally you get them cheapest on the bike... As said the Scott's are good but dont look past a Talon 29'er. Good frame and good starting point if you can pick it up cheap. Frame is the 95% the same as the XTC and lighter than almost anything out there. (mine with headset weighed 1.7kg). Then keep your eyes open for a hollowtec crank. Deore is fine. A nice SLX+ casette on some better wheels (the giant PXC jobbies are pretty decent for what you can pick them up for). Before you know it you are close to 12kg with a fork upgrade and you have a nice reliable bike with great geometry.
  21. just remember... Synchronised Swimming is an olympic sport Rugby isnt... Bet you the trail was a flat fast doddle...
  22. If it worked it will be great. R60 isnt half bad for a R20k bike. If you would get R60 of your insurance premium. But I doubt it...
  23. if you are able too I would suggest two chains as well. one for each casette. Obviously if you swap wheel every day this may not be ideal.
  24. eish Dude. get cops involved. for sure. They only way for us to stop they sycle is to cut in the cycle where we can. If he aint the culprit it wont be an issue as his bank account will have details of the purchase. Private or otherwise. For the sake of all the cycling community. Get the cops involved.
  25. eish! that hurts.
