  1. Interesting, where did you get this from?
  2. Anyone in E bunch?
  3. Titan are the best bang for your buck as far as I'm concerned, road or MTB. Carbon does give a better road feel, its more forgiving. I'm also light and thats where I find the value in carbon over alloy frames. Whichever you choose its going to be a hell of an upgrade over your current setup.
  4. But this comes down whether you want the item covered only at home or also while you're out? My Garmin Fenix was stolen from my house a few months and it wasn't specified but because it was stolen on the property, they paid me out. I realise its not covered outside my home but to me I'd rather self insure as the premium isn't worth it. Are you saying they force you to specify else there is no cover at all?
  5. Thats absolute ***, it was stolen inside your house so it doesn't matter if it was specified or not. It falls under contents. Speak to someone there with an IQ higher than 70 and you'll be fine I'm sure.
  6. Parking is ok but try be there an hour before your start time to give you time to park, get organised and make your way to the start. Watch out for 'unofficial' parking guides trying to make a quick buck off you outside the venue. There's always going to be congestion because so many people want to be there at 5:00 even if they start at 9:00 which doesn't help the people who actually need to be there early. Good luck, its a lot of fun out on the roads there!
  7. I see preliminary seeding came out today. I see the last group starts at 7:55, seems like a very poor turnout?
  8. Not necessary liquidating but history of races not materialising, Tshwane Classsic was a prime example of this. Each to their own, all I'm saying is unless its a big event I'd rather do a late entry.
  9. Seems like its only worth doing late entries for most races these days.
  10. Not sure if its ben discussed here but Buffesdrift has reopened, I couldn't find anything here on the forum?: Buffelsdrift's trails are back and open to the public! A lot has changed, but the old favorites remain. Super Tube, Rocks to Crocs and all the rest have been awaiting your two wheeled steed! The start has moved to the 63 on Nyala Function Venue, offering safe parking while you shred these iconic trails. Purchase a day pass or annual permit on TrailParks today! https://www.trailparks.co.za/park-info/25 The back story: A few years ago the cycling community in Gauteng had to come to terms with the harsh reality that one of its favorite trail parks was closing down. Thankfully, a dedicated crew of locals weren't ready to let these trails fade into the bush. They started Buffelsdrift Mountain Bike Club as a way for the community to work together and maintain the trails they held so dear. However, the trails remained closed to the public and one had to be a club member to ride them. After some time as a more exclusive cycling venue, interest to visit Buffelsdrift remained high and negations began to reopen the park to the public. We proposed using our platform to sell the new day passes and the team gladly got on board!
  11. Too dangerous, are you serious? 😁
  12. This is what I don't get, Tacx automatically loads a Zwift ride it to Garmin connect, and even though Tacx is owned by Garmin they won't accept it. Its just retarded.
  13. To come back to this contentious issue, I need someone to explain Dicovery's logic here. If I do a workout on my Tacx trainer with Zwift it records the workout and all the data to Garmin connect. Garmin owns Tacx now as we all know, but Discovery won't acknowedge that workout unless I use my watch as well when I do the workout to record the heart rate data (twice because I use a HR strap) via the watch. so I sit with duplicate workouts and having to delete the watch workout after Discovery syncs. On which planet does any of this make sense? But I can get 100 points if I walk into a gym and have a coffee. I want to take this up with Discovery senior but I want to get some input from you guys as well.
  14. Was also going to suggest him, definitely the go to guy for these upgrades.
  15. Thought I would try get some level headed advice before I lose my mind. I bought a brand new dual suspension about 6 weeks ago. R38k so hardly a Makro special. Bought online from local supplier in Cape Town, bike arrived and seemed all good, just needed to fit handle bars, wheels, pedals etc. First ride bike seems ok in general but gears slipping terribly. Not the end of the world, sorted that out myself. When washing the bike after the second ride I noticed a lot of lateral play on the back wheel, everything seemed tight so I took the wheel down to the local bike shop where they told me the hub hadn't been assembled properly. Very strange but anyway I pay them for the work seeing as its not their issue of course. I email the agent/manufacturer to tell them about this - more of a heads up because the bike was apparently not checked properly before being sent. Not a word from either of them. Eventually I call the guys I bought it from and they say if I like i can send it to one of their mechanics to get the bike checked. Fair enough, but after realising they're about a 40 minute drive I decide to see how it goes with the bike before doing that seeing as it will probably need its first service quite soon anyway. Last week I notice the play is back in the back wheel so my plan was to send it in after the holidays. Today the chain snapped. After 310 km. This is a bit alarming, chains shouldn't just snap after such low mileage so am I just unlucky, or have I bought a bit of a lemon? The reason I bought new was to avoid k@k like this but evidently it doesn't make a difference.
  16. They didn't define 'spouse' in their policy which is what most insurers do. If they insure guests and staff items then they can insure people living together long term, especially if the content cover is more than enough. Just looking for a way to repudiate the claim but fortunately it didn't work.
  17. Good luck with it!
  18. I did a 40 km race there and the elevation was less than 400m. Flat and fast trails.
  19. The only trail that can handle all this rain is Hennops.
  20. Sub 3 is definitely manageable if you start with a decent enough group. 2:45 is a different animal, I would like to know which groups other than vets and elites achieve that. That 15 minutes makes a huge difference.
  21. This. Many guys here ride sub 3 in the open categories, I'm pretty sure you don't need to enter vets.
  22. Most importantly you need to check if your seeding will allow you to race with the vets.
  23. We had a break in at our house a few weeks ago. Basically everything stolen belonged to me, including my bike, but because even though we have been living together for 5 years, they didn't want to pay as I wasn't technically her spouse according to them because we aren't legally married and the policy is in her name. Even though they cover guest items and domestic workers items you aren't seen as a 'spouse' or family member according to them. Anyway I challenged them and they backed down and paid. Absolute nonsense, would not recommend.
  24. I have to give kudos to these guys, did the 50km race on Sunday at Taroko and what a well organized, fun, and excellent value for money event. R300 for the entry which included a goodie bag with water bottle, socks, and vouchers including a R500 Scicon voucher and 50% bike service voucher. Can definitely recommend.
  25. I would do a proper bike setup before anything else.
