  1. Nowhere near the workshop. There's a big concrete 'garden' shed that will store the family's bikes, as well as a shovel and (garden) fork or two. The more I think about what we got, the luckier I feel. We were getting rather despondent, as we had signed an offer to purchase another place, but got no offer on our place. A couple of days after that offer expired, we got an offer on our place, and two days later found this one. It's pretty damn close to perfect, ticks 99% of the boxes.
  2. I'm only running 4 inch pipe 90% of it will be S&D (sewer and drain) pipe, then only the last short sections will be flex, and only where movement is needed.
  3. Also looking for some fancy-pant ideas for lumber storage - something I can slide a full sheet of ply behind and lay down some planks. It will sit flush against a wall, doesn't need to move or swing, there's enough space in front and to the side.
  4. It's 1:10 scale. Busy working on dust collection and electrical layouts over that - I think the current layout is going to minimize pipe length for the DC - less than 4 feet of pipe to the 3 most used sanders, then another 10 feet to the drum sander. Only one that is far is the mitre saw, but will lay pipe to it in any case and have another blast gate at that end for a normal vacuum cleaner pipe, to clean up the workbenches There'l be 1 foot of flex connecting the DC to the system, then no flex pipe at the three sanders (belt sander, disk sander, spindle sander) Some 2 foot of flex pipe at the drum sander, just for mobility, and another 2 foot at the sliding mitre saw to allow for movement there. I'm planning on putting a couple of the benches on castors - the one with the two sanders on (large belt and disc sander combo and spindle sander, bottom left) as well as the mitre saw bench, bottom right, and then maybe the short section top right hand corner. It has to be cut due to the size of the postform tops available, so may as well make it mobile. Was thinking of maybe making it my paint and spray equipment storage, then if I need to spray I just run it around like a cart. It's about 120cm long. As far as electrickery is concerned, I have several hundred feet of dual channel trunking that my dad gave me (from an old worksite where they threw out a couple of TONS of this stuff) So will be wall mounting that all the way around the shop. Installing a new plug point anywhere will take 5 minutes if needed. My router table is already on wheels and will fit under one of the benches. I'm thinking of making some more of those size roll-arounds to store all the other tools in, with a 18mm lampine top so that I can use it for extra surface if needed. Make them so they fit flush under the counters and sit on lockable castors.
  5. Playing with the new workshop layout .... like a carpenter.

For some or other reason I'm really not interested in monohulls ...

I've now sailed Halcats (14 foot) on Bronkies and Vaal, Hobie 14 on Bronkies, Hobie 16 on Bronkies and Vaal as well as a magnificent (albeit slightly unloved) Hobie Tiger on the Vaal in 20 knot winds with mega gusts. Toight like a Toiger ... jeeeeez that thing just goes like the clappers. Her owner hasn't sailed her in many years but loans her out to a select few Voortrekkers (me not yet included, I sneaked a run on her in March during a camp) The Halcats were OK - I've never had great fun on them, but also never had them in wind over 6 knots. The Hobie 14 is way too small for me - I've turned into a fat bastard since trading cycling for my second job, weighing in somewhere in the 90's. The 16 is fun - I've solo'd one (and pitch-poled it - self-recovered due to the ball on the mast) and had the wife screaming on it on another occasion("Stadiger!" NEE! STADIGER!!!" lol) and really like it. It's not too big to handle on your own, spares seem plenty and inexpensive(ish) I've got a while to decide yet ... maybe I'll try and find a few more boats to play with before then.

So .... Jan Taks het besluit om vir my 'n speelding te koop vir kersfees. Hobie 16? or something else? I'll just potter around on Bronkies and Vaaldam mostly, maybe once to twice a month.
  9. Like this: https://www.takealot.com/stanley-bevel-edge-global-chisel-set-4-piece/PLID38573120 R409 bucks.
  10. *Shudder* Look, you said you liked the old man? Then don't give him **** tools. Rather give him something smaller, but in your budget. Like a nice (or even just halfway decent) set of chisels. A set of Stanley chisels will do - 6mm, 12mm,18mm and 25mm.
  11. Metabo KGS 216 mitre saw. Should be ~R3500 - best investment for the small workshop. Give me a week or so to catch my breath after the Crafters Christmas fair and I'll make him a mallet to go with his new chisels
  12. Thanks Hairy, Yeah I think I must try and lay some ducting for dust extraction, a ton of power skirting as well as some copper for compressed air all over as well. Maybe put in a ceiling with a small cavity above it, for heat and noise insulation.
  13. So it seems as if all the i's are being dotted and the t's crossed. Last bit just fell into place for the new spot - home loan approved (prime -.35, I'm happy) Workshop. The previous owner makes custom knives. He's moving all his machines etc to Mauritius.
  14. Yep. Guilty as charged. And no, it's a myth that gingers have no souls. We get a freckle for every soul we steal.
  15. I sell Dromex impact resistant safety glasses as well, for the ninnys. The rental crates comes with 5 as well. I actually give them away to a lot of kiddos as well, especially the gingers ... geez they (we?) are a different breed.
  16. Had a spat with a lady at the flea market some time ago, she walked past my stall and mumbled loudly about 'making kids violent' ... against my better judgement I answered her, it was rather amusing to see her resolve falter after one or two questions regarding guns in general.
  17. Christmas market set up. There's 32 guns on the wall and another ~250 under the table. New addition to the gun line - these ring like a bell when you hit it with a rubber band. I sell them with two cans of coke (for R50, bloody bargain I think) Will try and get a video on Saturday.
  18. Finished up one or two guns over the weekend, going to a Christmas market tomorrow. Took much longer than anticipated to get the rpice tags and rubber bands on all of these. On an unrelated note, bought a new house on Saturday ... hoping to be able to move in over December. Has a 7x7 workshop with a 8x7 carport in front of it, over and above the garages for cars. Well chuffed.
  19. Love the bench RB - hope it gets lots of use! May I suggest:
  20. Rental rubber band guns. First try-out on Saturday, went exceedingly well (both as a game and as a marketing tool)
  21. I just love the ingenuity of carpenters
  22. Plastic putty knife. You get lekker wide ones, up to 200mm, but a 100mm one is awesome (and should cost around R15)
  23. About two years IIRC. Replaced bushes once, after running it pretty much non-stop 8 hours a day for three weeks last year. Cost me R80, got them from Chamberlains of the shelf. Dust collection is good but not great, but I've never seen a router that actually has good collection.
  24. That thing is a beast. I've got one mounted in a table, chews up anything I throw at it. Use PROPER TCT bits though (Tungsten Carbide Tipped)
  25. Not strictly a braai, but one of only three pics I took over the weekend. Only a decent braai beats a skottel brekkie.
