I don't get the cycling-cranking thingy - wth are they doing?
  2. My wife works at a special needs school and I used to employ a couple of their older students (17-19 year olds) in my workshop a couple of days a week. It's a ******* uphill battle all the way, lemme tell you. My biggest issue is that you can NEVER count on them (as a business should be able to do with employees) They get bored quickly, if something else grabs their attention they are outta there. Had one or two guys that shaped REALLY well, to the point where I offered two of them permanent positions. Both said no, one is packing shelves at Woolworths last I talked to him and the other one does lackey work at a security installation firm (carrying around stuff etc) Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. I just need a supervisor that understands them and can work with them. Unfortunately I don't have the cashflow to afford three or four people right now.
  3. I've made knitting needles out of Ebony. What a beautiful wood to work with. I was told that you can drill and tap it with a fine thread - I believe it to be true, as it's mega hard. Works down to glass-like polish with only sandpaper.
  4. Stretched@Birth, you're welcome to show my 'gap' as well ... lol.
  5. I'm trying to cost the Gattling gun, I think it might be an over-the-top purchase (ie probably going to end up with a R1500 sticker ... ouch) so it will probably come with a tripod and it's own wooden crate. Send me some pics of the rosewood to chief@treeware.co.za - might be interested, although I'm not doing a lot of other things apart from making a crapload of guns at the moment - moved over 100 last month
  6. This one: Full auto, powered by it's won ammo (like the rest of my guns) Takes 100 bands. I'm still working on the details, but it will probably be made out of Kiaat or Meranti. Hairy. the website is not up and running at the moment. I have two models, a carbine (comes with or without a buttstock) and a submachine gun. Carbine = R250 ea (short or long, long one pictured) SMG = R350 ea. It also comes with a sling attached.
  7. Made a couple of more crates of rubber band guns. Three models done for now, next up is a Gattling gun.
  8. Yoh ... that gap though
  9. Balsa wood might be cool - won't it break easily though? Otherwise it may be too thick.
  10. I've got a bit of a problem ... I've got rather crappy and boring business cards for the carpentry side of the business (nice logo, but card design is old and outdated) I'd like two new card designs: One for Treeware, that does custom carpentry and corporate gifts Another for www.Rubberguns.co.za - for the rubber band guns (and other toys) Any ideas/help?
  11. If I had the money I wouldn't have posted the add, but the pics of it in my workshop. It's a massive bargain. My father in law has one (amongst another trunk full of woodwork tools) that he inherited from his dad and has no clue as to how they work or what they're worth . And no, he does not want to part with them at all (like his Jeep CJ7 that's been standing in the garage for 8 years)

  14. Reminds me of a very catchy line in the Klopjag song "Koeldoppies en halfkaal vrouens"

So I've done something for myself for a change - I'm taking my Voortrekker span to the Vaaldam on Saturday to participate in the yearly water-works camp (They're doing a rescue course) and instead of joining them, I enrolled myself into a 5-day sailing course. Something I've always wanted to get into but never had the time or bucks (still don't ha ha) Did a couple of sailing trips around Cape Town ( as moving ballast / expert beer consumer) around 16 years ago ... We'll be sailing Hobie 14's for 5 full days.
