  1. Double post
  2. Anyone else on here with an exotic cat breed? Curious about various personality traits? My previous Abbysinian used to have to go walkies on a leash when I took the dog out. ( sadly I lost her at 9 months from Feline leukemia- she predates the vaccine). My current one DaVinci is a guard cat of note but at the same time such a wuss. Will growl at noises outside or knocks at the door. Has managed to see off all the neighborhood dogs at some stage but is totally intimidated by the Parrot! And is a total mommys girl! This last week when I was at work so much she would spend the night on my chest just to make sure I was really there. We call her the Velcro cat. Both she and my first one drool when they purr. And oh boy - for a short haired cat she can shed! By she looves the furminator brush - actually have to be careful to watch how much I brush or she may end up bald!
  3. So eventually on Friday I phone my sister in desperation to please go to my house and just spend time with my animals - I've been working 18 hour days for the last week and hubby is away as well. None of this was exactly planned to happen like this but it did and I was feeling awful. Sister sends me this pic: I will clearly sleep on anything if it smells like my mommy! Even if it's a wooden coat hanger!!
  4. Thinking more on this - there is a woman who handles exotic cat rescues and rehomings ( although my offer still stands if u need it! ) Very very strict home checks and may even know of people looking to home a Siamese and with experience on the breed - they are sure to have contacts for the right organizations in Joberg (if only i wasn't on the other side of SA) And along those lines there must be a boxer rescue org or even a local boxer breed club in your area? Good place to start - ppl who love the breed are all over.
  5. AKA Bones and Raw Food Diet
  6. In honesty I found the best food was the raw diets like Barf (and to a degree Vondis). Where in the natural evolution of things did dogs ever eat grains? (Except maybe semi digested in the stomachs of their prey!)I didn't find it significantly more expensive than premium pelleted foods and one feeds considerably less. Cats on the other hand are tricky so mine are on the Origen and Acana grain free ranges and doing so well on them. One cat needed to be on Hills JD so switched on vets advice but then se started to bring up her food - so have switched them back gain to Origin. I really really believe ( and have learnt from experience) that these are a better way to go.
  7. Think I have posted this one before bit I love this pic! Epitomizes winter in my house - I'm dragging my ass out of bed and my cat just looks at me with disdain and snuggles deeper!
  8. Hectic news Wayne! Haven't been following the other thread - what a decision to make. How long until u go? If u struggle to home Olaf then look me up - i won't take another dog due to work but I have 2 cats who want for nothing in my house. Don't know what your timeframe is but Chances are u will find him a home up country and closer but if u get stuck I will take him in a heart beat [emoji6]
  9. Dominance
  10. Awwwwwwwwwww.... Demmit! They are beautiful - I really can't have another dog but this make my heart yearn!!
  11. Anyone in the Cape in need of a new furry companion?? Roxy's owners were evicted and she needs a new home. She has been tested and has no nasties. I would take her on a heart beat but I can't. I wanted to foster her but I'm going up to Sutherland for the TK so I can't
  12. I'm afraid you are going to find no sympathy on this thread. Would be interesting to hear why you decided to "plan" this litter?
  13. How about you dust off your Mtb ( seeing as jnb apparently doesn't have any trails worthy of your sport - I'm guessing the bike isn't seeing that much action) and ride it in a show of solidarity like many others are doing. Make the most of a bad situation and recognise the sacrifices made by others. I have a friend riding in his full firefighting kit. Put on a red or yellow, shirt, band, feather in your helmet and get out there and enjoy the gees - imagine the whole of the M3 lined with the supporters who usually line the whole Argus route! Drink a beer, snap a selfie and be grateful you can!
  14. Either the vet.More walking on Tarmac Catch and clip them yourself - hide the clippers till you are ready. If he is likely to bite you then muzzle him with a band around the nose and tied behind his ears. Be quick and gentle and lots of treats after. Probably need help to hold him as he will squirm. Or invest a lot of time in stroking and touching his paws while just giving him attention with no hidden agenda. Leave the clippers out in the open till he gets used to seeing them mad stops associating them with negative stuff. Eventually with time he should learn to tolerate having his paws handled, you can introduce commands etc and one day maybe he will lie there while you clip
  15. And today was my turn... RIP my Beautiful Boy - all who knew him were in awe of what a great dog he was. He has left a huge gap but at least he is with out pain and discomfort now. 11 and a half was a good innings but it was his time and I was with him til the end... <3 <3
  16. Is Bottelary open tomorrow? Someone mentioned not due to Origin of Trails??
  17. Hi TW I found this - hope it helps a little Strongs for this difficult time.xxx http://www.dogheirs.com/tamara/posts/5044-dogs-never-die-they-are-sleeping-in-your-heart
  18. Several different manufacturers - it was Virbac whose batch failed but they did do a "recall". Was at AACL today with a friend to adopt a puppy and the lady there said pls pls pls chip your dog BUT also make sure your details are kept up to date!! Especially if you move or change numbers - the number of dogs they get in - especially over the festive season - that are chipped but the owner details are out of date is mind boggling! They chip with identipet which is one of the first companies to have launched chip. I think the cost of the chip depends on whether you still have to pay an annual subscription to the service ( also offer the lifetime option). AACL chips as part of the adoption fee - tho generally they do it when the dog comes in to be sterilized ( we had the pup done on collection tho). Collars are good as they immediately identify the pet as being "owned" as opposed to dumped or stray. But ja not all dogs share that sentiment!
  19. I know u get different grades of HD. Used to be classified in numbers 0 was good and 3 the worst. Different system now but the principles are the same regarding the severity.
  20. Being able to feel her ribs is a good starting point. Definately no "forced" exercise. It's not the end of the world - could be mild. Get her thin - all it will do is slow down her growth if she is overly slim and that's not too bad ( can be good actually) as long as what she is fed is nutritious and good quality. She can still do many of those things but give it time. She will stop and rest if she is too sore. Quality of life is important too [emoji6]
  21. My Rottie is 11 and a bit - he doesn't have hip issues but he is arthritic in his elbow as he broke it as a pup. He is on a supplement called rejuvadog (as are other dogs in the family who are displasic) Also I swear by MSM ( white powder found at health shops) I didn't know how much of a difference it made to him until I ran out last week. The vet wanted him on the Hills JD diet but I couldn't keep his weight down on it so I put him back on his raw diet and the supplements above. Good luck - so sorry she was so young - 1 1/2 is very young for a diagnosis tho - they normal wait until after 2 so that all the growing is done. Did he say how bad her hips were on the score sheet? Edit: Sorry wanted to ask if she is grossly overweight? Sometimes a lot of damage can be undone by slimming down especially as to some degree the are still growing. Mr Fine - Strongs to you your loss :'( And loving all the other pics
  22. Yes - but then it's a more Paleo like approach. I wonder what nutrients the are referring too?
  23. All mine did ( I think) was bribe the traffic official doing the test with a bottle of Whiskey....
