  1. Common problem with Crap brothers pedals. Not only confined to the candy or eggbeater pedals. On the mallets as well. Sure fire solutions - buy shimano. Alternatively solution - buy shimano.
  2. Oh and the first port of call on the first volunteer build / maintain day - that flippin dh3 / vasbyt intersection that was discussed on vleisboek. That's an easy fix. Cut in a berm on vasbyt to remove that small loop. Disaster avoided. Cos we all know the maintenance team can build berms. Roots, dh2, dh3, vasbyt, boomslang and mamba are testament to that.
  3. Sure as **** I will, Duane. The more people that pitch in to maintain the Trails the better.
  4. Lol. Didn't you see? I wear my gumboots while riding this thing. Flats an'all ekse
  5. What Flowta said. No need to change anything else.
  6. Okay. Report time. Firstly - why the feck are these bars so tiny!? Felt like I was a middle aged Chinese woman trying to stuff myself into some new shoes. Anyway. Secondly - there needs to be some tweaks in the setup. Stem is too long and the seat is too far forward. I also need to get used to the positioning again. Strange at first but it felt eerily familiar the longer I went. Only did 30 minutes as the weather wasn't playing along, but so far so good. Shifts perfectly and goes well. Mostly though, I forgot how fast a road bike can accelerate and how easy it is to maintain a reasonable speed. Compared to the giant it's about 50% easier to maintain speed and accelerate out the blocks. I kid you not. And it's not even a suoer stiff carbon race bike. So yeah. It's a good choice. But I need to do some small adjustments before I'm 100% happy. But overall - success.
  7. Still going for a ride, but in the afternoon and probably on the tar (don't judge me)
  8. True, but I can't make it. It got to the point where I had to tell the Mrs exactly how long I was going to be out of the house for (apparently "sometime before 5" isn't a valid answer) and then other more important things got in the way (no way I'm going to say no to her client meeting that could net us 10k more than our usual income) and I had to pull out.
  9. Tim, that's where we're actually ahead of the game. We're the only user group that have formed a unified body to deal with Parks (the whole range from Table Mountain to the point) and as such are the only formally recognised group. If horse riders did the same thing, or dog walkers, runners etc it'd be a step in the right direction for them. Excuse the pun, if you will... but we (as MTBers) are the only constituted, organized body. I know there was a move to legitimize / organize a single horse-riding body, but it was short lived. There are (as far as I know) too many factions within that particular sphere at the moment.
  10. It was also out of kilter with their proposed initial cutting schedule, as far as I understand it. The normal cutting schedule extends to 2024. Apparently the "new" cutting schedule has them leaving as early as 2017. Which is far faster than originally planned. Same as Bennett wasn't given a cutting schedule for Jonkers... the section that is being logged now was the next to be logged, but it would have been nice of them to make it available to him this time last year...
  11. Niner. They've only ever done... yes... niners. Their geometry is sorted, and the frame is UBER sexy.
  12. Nope. Parks have people monitoring those trails now. And riders are being taken note of. So any future riding of them will result in Parks (well, Tokai) becoming more and more reticent to grant any sort of concession
  13. I prefer lifting with my hands... easier to grasp things that way.
  14. oh dude, I feel your pain - literally! 2 Meniscus tears and an ACL / MCL sprain in the space of 3 years. My knee is forever fooked.
  15. Ja dude.. That Ryan oke - the level of determination and strength of will he must have is frankly amazing. TO do those ultra super marathons!? No thanks.
  16. 20 minutes moving time, 40 minutes total. We stopped to session a certain section a few times, and take a few pics, shoot the breeze and just chat about which sections we'd ride next. It was cool in the trees, so we didn't really wanna get back out into the sun. That's when this was taken.
  17. The one in the background? Don't know. I'd have to take a taxi the way we came up, through the bottom of the DH trail, cannot be ridden up (it's a downhill only trail) so we had to push. Normally, I'd have ridden around and up the jeeptrack, but being the second time I'd ridden there (and some of the riding party hadn't ridden there at all) it was decided that we'd walk it up the trail to have a look at what we'd encounter on the way down. Plus out of the 5 of us only Capricorn & I have bikes that can be descibed as "pedal friendly" - one DH bike, one 180mm Freeride bike, one 170mm Freeride tank, My reign x (also 170mm but can pedal fine) and Capricorn's Trance. With all the checking of lines, inspecting features, kakpraat and all other stuff, it took about 90 minutes to ascend the 3.7km or so (380m ascent) So - not that fast at all.
  18. You also would have hear him say that we got somewhere with that, and we have to appreciate that Parks have their own requirements that we, as riders, need to respect. They know they are under pressure to continue with the EMP process, and our job is to ensure that we have all our ducks in a row from a trail rationalisation and planning perspective. There are still processes that need to be followed. Regardless of who is on the committee, that will remain. It's our job (well, Tokai MTB's, actually) to ensure that the relationship with Tokai section remains in place, and we do not push too much. We need to respect their requirements, and work within them.
  19. This one, please... http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r293/VIEWLINER/PTA/CC3.jpg
  20. Also - the people riding the illegal trails need to stop. Now. For this to work as advertised, it must be a complete overhaul of the approach that is happening at the moment. Can't claim representation and then shoot ourselves in the foot at the first obstacle, when parks have requested we stop riding them.
  21. I'm sure I wasn't the only one to read into it, Dale! And no worries. BTW. That little hee hee at the end? http://mrwgifs.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Jerry-Seinfeld-Shivering-With-Disgust-Reaction-Gif.gif
