  1. True, but he was on his way to a very promising gp career.... we'll never know what would have happened after his death had he carried on riding. ..
  2. Erm, he was kinda a child prodigy until he got dead...
  3. Lol. Yeah. I was in the middle of a wiring issue at home. Bloody plugs switch kept tripping and there are 3 rooms in the one circuit. Traced it down to a severed conduit between 2 plug points. Luckily it was the last plugpoint in the one room. Absolute bitch to diagnose and trace.
  4. If you read the post again, hairy, he says he's not going for a ss specific wheel for futureproofing. So I would expect a normal hub with spacers...
  5. He also said that he wanted to record it in full so that it could be used as a record of the event
  6. Yeah Tim, not saying you are. My reply was so that others didn't jump on that potential wagon. Besides - I think you (and I) hold so much real estate up there its ridiculous..m
  7. The only place I can think if is where Headshot highlighted - that first right hander in mamba has a tree stump On the outer edge. It doesn't encroach, but if you don't turn to take the corner you will hit it.
  8. Ja dude. I think that's the only place a tree is there... but then there were plans to make that into a jump so that you could launch Over the switchback on to the straight again. Saying that - that used to be a tree. If he had made the same mistake in the old trail he would have hugged it. Same place, different obstacle. And he would have had to have been going a helluva pace to get it wrong. It's still off the trail and is in keeping with the technicality we all want from the Trails. What I'm saying is that if he got it wrong now he would have gotten it wrong then. And maybe it would have been worse when there were trees there as there would have been something else to smash into (the tree on the other side of the trail) We can't pave everything. We also can't remove all the stumps (as tim rightly said there are thousands of them) as it would be a helluva exercise and would remove a large portion of stabilising root structures. But then this seems to be a freak accident. Too fast into the corner and wham. The same thing could have happened anywhere.
  9. Small h - it's in the original post. That's a full eyewitness account with corroborative video evidence
  10. Lol. And to think Donkey is getting married next week... He was one of the groomsmen at my wedding. Met him in 07 when I was invited to a Friday morning outride
  11. If that's true it's a common spot and the primary reason for being airlifted. Would be a long and dangerous trip down in an ambulance. Also people come flying down there and don't take the transition into consideration Hope she pulls through!
  12. I reckon it was another oke going balls to the wall on the jeep track. That's generally the area and source of most of the injuries. 50 plus KPH and not seeing a stone / rock / water bar in the middle of the road, with your seat jammed up your arse. That or a blowout...
  13. Another way to look at the brining side of things is an added advantage when it comes to roasting anything or slow cooking it. Because they've already done that, and depending on the solution used, you only really need to do the final spicing and marinade the roast with dry spices rather than submerging it in a spiced brine for a day. Admittedly the spiced brine imparts more flavour into the meat, but nothing that can't be fixed by a solid dry rub
  14. Yeah bro. I'm under no illusions as to the source of the meat, nor the conditions needed to label something as free range. Free range basically means a large building with access to the outside. At the least. Minimum requirement. Sometimes they don't even need access to the outside, as long as they're allowed to "range free" within the building... But yeah. I like me some meat!!!
  15. Yep. Sadly. But I'm okay with that. Or, at least, I understand it. I will continue to strive to buy things free range, but I can't always do that. One thing is for certain though - the living conditions of those chickens / cows / pigs etc could certainly be improved. Even if just from a sanitation perspective. Some of those plants (yes, plants - cos that's all some of them are) are truly disgusting. But - back on track. Everything is better with bacon. If I had to choose ONE type of food to live on for the rest of my life, that would have to be a top runner. One food.
  16. The other day I bought some chicken on special from PnP. When I opened the packaging, K asked me if it was Turkey we were having for dinner. So blatantly over-sized it was crazy. Must have come from a 4kg chicken, it was so big. But you know what? It tasted SUPERB.
  17. Nah. I'm fully aware where the majority of meat comes from. Those cut price R 29.99 / kg chickens you get at the major stores? Yeah. They're "free range" Riiiiiiight. Free to range in their 10x10 inch box with a head opening for their food access and a pipe for their water. Right. That's why the proper free range stuff is so flippin expensive, comparatively. Economies of scale and the available land and all that. What I meant was the picture was only indicative of the pork that comes from the non free-range suppliers. Which, admittedly, are the majority of the producers the world over. But - if you look hard enough, and have enough cash, you can find the meat that comes from properly raised and fed cattle, swine and chook. But you have to know the differences between the options available, and be okay with the concept of why things cost more in the shops, when they come from different providers... You get free range providers, and you get the normal providers. Given the choice, I'd go for free range every time. But I don't always have the choice (from a monetary perspective) and therefore I sometimes go for the battery farmed stuff. But I still know where it comes from...
  18. Depends on which supplier you get it from...
