  1. Yeah. There are dangers all over on that whole stretch. Full alert all the time, along there. Camps Bayians, stumbling after too many martinis, then then multitude of other people along the other area next to teh promenade...
  2. Personally I try to go as fast as possible on the segment / area just after clifton etc, where the road narrows, Cars generally don't go as fast around there cos of the way it twists and turns, and there are construction trucks and double parked cars all along there. SO I generally put foot there, and relax on the coastal road section when things widen up a bit. Same as Kalk Bay / Muizenberg main road. I hit that section as fast as possible so that drivers don't get frustrated. And I thank them for waiting. Or pull in when there's a gap between parked cars...
  3. “The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.”
  4. A brake system electronically linked to traffic signals. Green = disengaged. Red = engaged, no option to disengage. Also ties in with the network so that we can get direct access to the signal timing, like cars do with the pressure plates and so on.
  5. Lol. Google search does wonders, mate.. And dude - I was humouring your humour!
  6. Ah see in that case I'm sure it would be your fault. The accident resulted from an intentional act on your part And me = I'd do number b. And report it. Edit - sorry, I'd do a as well
  7. More understandable, yes. But an understanding of what set them off does not mean that their actions or in this case retribution was justifiable or right. For example - I can see why someone may want to kill someone schtoeping their wife. But it doesn't mean that my understanding the reasons behind it make it an acceptable action or response to the initial problem
  8. Maybe they did exchange words beforehand. Still. No matter which way it's spun there is no justification for their actions. Let's just say someone cut you off in traffic. Not saying that's what happened but bear with me. Do you A: hoot once as a warning to the guy cutting you off, then carry in as normal after correcting / braking to avoid collision B: shake your head and carry on as normal after correcting / braking to avoid collission C: chase him down, at the next stop light get out your car, pepper spray him, then moer him when he can't see (thanks to the pepper spray in his eyes) and klap him with a wheel spanner (wheel substitute)? Edit: if a company owned car then there's a 2nd option to each if the above. Do a b or c and then report the driver to his company...
  9. And yet there you sit judging others who claim to hold a sort of moral high ground...
  10. Yeah bro. I know I've done some bloody stupid things in my life. But the point here is that this sort of thing is never justifiable.
  11. Peach - could be that the double park assumption was borne from the vehicle having stopped with its hazards on? Either way... that is beside the point. The point is that this sort of action from the cyclists is completely unacceptable
  12. Message Iwan... he may have a pair or 10 lying about... You never know!
  13. I'd go so far as to say that an outright ban from the club would be in order. For those perpetrators...
  14. LOL. Nicely dodged their responsibility to ensure that the road ahead is clear and safe to proceed... If you smash into someone who has stopped (for whatever reason) in the road, it's your fault... You weren't paying attention. I know I've done it before...
  15. Yeah, look - I view it like this - all violence is bad. Period. However. There are certain situations in which violence becomes the only possible avenue in a situation. Such as someone trying to knock you the fk out, rape, fighting etc. Either you need to deter them or, as a final avenue, a quick sharp violent retaliation is needed.
  16. In this case, self defence would have been to ride away in the opposite direction as quickly as possible. That is the only way to defend yourself against a person in a car who is out to get you. Even IF the guys in the van had thrown stuff at them, to chase them down and wilfully and with full intent do what they did can in no way be categorised as self defence. That would be categorised as malicious damage to property and assault.
  17. Dunno about you, X, but to me, 20 cyclists ganging up on a single occupant (driver) of a parked vehicle, activating a sustained mace hit from a metre or so away, assault with the wheel of a bike, forcible damage to the van in question and multiple punches to the face are so far removed from self defence that to label it as such is frankly disgusting. If that's what you class as self defence, your viewpoints and opinions need drastic change.
  18. Oh dude if it was a taxi, the gaartjie would be on you with a screwdriver faster than you can say JMSP. They're considerate, but if you try to attack them they WILL end you.
  19. In fact - I find taxi drivers here in the cape to be some of the most accommodating and friendly drivers on the road when it comes to their treatment of cyclist and moto riders. As dips said - do not presume to address the Minister on our behalf.
  20. To continue - the letter you've just posted continues to sow unsubstantiated and frankly false "fact" and further confuses the event itself, not to mention other people's views regarding the event. It's this type of misinformed rant that does more harm than good and perpetuates a feeling of resentment towards those who have nothing to do with the circumstances at all.
  21. Erm, Amanda, may I be the first to point out to you... It was NOT a taxi. It was a support vehicle for the 10 km run that was helping with the post race cleanup. Your rant is clearly misdirected and grossly generalistic in nature, and not at all in keeping with the event in question. Next time you send an email like this to a minister, or anyone, for that matter, do not assume so much or presume to know what went on based on your previous, unrelated experiences.
  22. Har har har. Hairy - there were 3 lines coming off the DB on that particular switch. 2 for 2 rooms upstairs and one for the downstairs. Only controlling the plugpoints. 3 plugpoints in the downstairs room and 2 in each of the upstairs rooms. Basically it wasn't very clever of the guy who put it together... especially when there was an open breaker next to the switch in question!
  23. I reckon that is the large portion of his lack of "killer instinct"
