  1. Time for beer, Andrew... don't fight it any longer.
  2. He's still there!? Damn. Long time service award goes to...
  3. Don't do it. Rather go the route of having proper control over your compression damping with the Turnkey compression adjuster that comes on the RL / RLT without the remote. That way you can tune your compression damping for each route, while still being able to lock it out completely with one swift flick of your right finger.
  4. Sigh. We are not breaking the law by riding in the yellow lane. Aarto allows for it.
  5. Plus I prefer testing myself against obstacles outside my comfort zone as opposed to the monotony of smashing a road session. Even though it can be strangely cathartic at times. The smell of soil and tree is far more to my liking. Plus you can *** off far easier on the mountain
  6. Lol. Could say that. Could also say that I have accepted that lycra was definitely not my strong point
  7. ROFL. Fair enough dude. And yeah. Something needs to be done. Short of a MEGA re-skilling and education drive for all motorists, as well as increased policing, massive rollout of cycle lanes (already happening in the Cape, but slowly) and proper enforcement of traffic violations, this is the first step to that change. A small step, granted, but a step nonetheless.
  8. and you're surprised why? Why did you have it off in the first place?
  9. No we shouldn't. We don't have nearly the same capacity for speed on hills and flats, and that would endanger fellow road users as drivers would have to swing all the way into oncoming traffic in order to pass. You may as well say that cyclists should be allowed to ride 6 abreast (same principle as we would take up the whole lane, like a car) Fact remains that we are slower road users. We need to take cognisance of that. Fact remains that riding int he middle of the road will do nothing to reduce fatalities as a result of drunken drivers or "i didn't see him" responses.
  10. No danger of that, I don't wear lycra!!! But seriously. Sometimes reflectors are good during the day, and they DO refract light. So that's the reason they are required. But - overall, it is the law of the road. If you want to ride on the road, fit a reflector. Easy peasy.
  11. what would you suggest in its place, given the rollout of ever increasing bike paths, Martin?
  12. agreed 100%. It is, however, one way of making people feel a bit safer, as well as instituting an additional level of legislation that protects us cyclists as the more "at risk" portion of road users. As for what else to do to get rid of / reduce road deaths caused by other means - education and strict enforcement of the current regulations by increased visible policing, and more importantly effective policing.
  13. Makes perfect sense. In daylight - you need reflectors (as you are a vehicle using a public road - all vehicles are required to be fitted with reflectors) After sunset - you are required to have reflectors AND working lights. There's no obviation, and it makes perfect sense.
  14. Gah. The law allows cars to now go into the opposing lane when there is a solid white line or a double line, where previously this maneuvre was not allowed and they had to wait until there was enough space within the lane, or a segmented (dotted) white line before they could pass. In short - your statement is BS.
  15. they're hardly heavy... And besides, it makes you more visible at night. Just retrofit them to hang below your lights, and all will be well. Oh, wait - I forgot. People don't have common sense anymore. It's all been replaced with bravado and self importance
  16. yeah, but he was incorrect. The law states that the cycle lanes must be used when running alongside the road. There is no getting around that. Maybe he was referring to the administrative difficulties in prosecuting cyclists who do not adhere to that, but it is there...
  17. Erm, what people seem to forget is that this has ALWAYS been a requirement for riding on the road...
