  1. I got talked out of going with a mechanic by several 'senior statesmen' of The Hub. If you do decide to go for it anyway, I got the best price from Epic Cycles (R 2250.00)
  2. What he said! Was going to give the whole 'ride your own pace, and stop to enjoy the view' speech, but that's just gay...
  3. I ride in the area most mornings (Klapperkop). The thunderstorms over the weekend have loosened all the rocks, so it's pretty hectic at the moment. Can't say I know the course that well, but if it was tech before, it'll be really challenging now. Super fun tho' - can't see too many roadies enjoying this one.

Agreed. But an even tougher ask is to be the coach. Take Gary Kirsten for example. He's walked into a no-win job. If he goes to NZ and cleans up, it's the least that would be expected of him. If for some reason we do less than brilliantly, they'll be queuing for his scalp. I hope he's getting paid enough...
  5. Oh, good - you made the ultra even longer. Hope it stops raining, or we may end up at 130k!
  6. Portable pool in the Cape for seven days? I tell you what - why don't I swap you? You ride the stupid race and I'll lie around for 8 hours a day and wait for you to get back, so I can wash your bike? Eish, getting up at 4:30 every morning to go ride is starting to wear a little...
  7. dude, you weighed 75kg and now you only weigh 50k??? Have you seen 'The Machinist'? That's not healthy!

And I'm sure Gerald Majola and Ali Bacher will have no problem 'administering' such a cash prize...

If they can manage to make 85 twice, it should be enough to win - considering the way England play spinners at the moment!
  10. I agree partially. I'd go with XT RD. XTR shadow RD has a carbon cage, which is extremely easy to break. But I'd consider the XTR shifters for a bit of bling...
  11. Hmmmm... Not too sure now. Got a few prices in and looking at about R 3k. Listening to you guys, I might just wing it. You may be getting a bit of hate mail early in April if the **** goes sour!! Otherwise, I'll owe you a beer or two...
  12. Thanks, will do. The guys at Epic sports helped me at the tech zone at Barberton, and they were really good.Just afraid of being absolutely FUBAR after a long day, and then sukkeling to find someone to help with a major mechanical.
  13. No quotes yet. Cycle Lab are charging R 3700, which is nuts.A friend of mine went down to service at Epic 2 years and charged about R 1500. That is about what i was hoping to pay. Hopeful, probably...
  14. IMO, big jump - can you say 'Mamba switchbacks'?
  15. My partner and I are looking for a mechanic to service our bikes during the Epic. Any techies out there with space for 2 more, without trying to solve all their financial problems in 1 go?
