  1. I just noticed that there's something funny with everyone's height (mine was also incorrect)...
  2. A little bit of a gain for me in the last 2 weeks, but my last weigh-in was a couple of days after a 3 week trip in South East Asia and quite a long haul to get home, and then my birthday shortly after, so I'm not beating myself up about it. I feel I have my eating back on point, I'm back to training both at gym and on the bike after picking up a cold on the flight home, so I'm hopeful that the weight will start tracking downwards again
  3. Maybe also look at swimming or weight training to supplement the cycling? Might be easier on the joints. I was amazed at how much my cycling improved once I started spending a 2-3 days a week in the gym with a barbell
  4. If anyone still wants to do the race, I’m giving away my entry. All you need to pay is the R50 substitution fee. I picked up a cold on the flight home and still not feeling well enough to ride ???? Will play it safe and stay home tomorrow, and just live with my crap seeding for the Argus ????
  5. I'll join again. I'm happy to see it's no longer a weight loss challenge as I'll probably use the motivation to weigh in every month to maintain, even though I wouldn't horribly mind if I lose a few more kg. Came back from holiday yesterday, scale this morning told me I am 2kg lighter than when I left. It might just be from the lack of yummy goodies that are so prevalent before Christmas. The aim is to keep the scale from going back up, maybe even try get it to move down a little bit, but I'll be happy if it stays where it currently is.
  6. So far there have been cookies and mince pies... no wine in sight. I should talk to my suppliers about the lack of alcoholic gifts Those would be much easier to resist by about mid-morning...
  7. I managed to hold pretty steady between November and beginning of December. I'll have my last weigh-in on the 22nd before I start my travels to visit parents for Christmas and then South East Asia for 3 weeks. Trying to be strong for this last stretch which isn't easy with the Christmas goodies the suppliers insist of dropping off at the office...
  8. It was the corner of Victoria and Mount Rhodes. It is more of a driveway on the left... We came across the accident minutes after it happened, pretty sure the group went past us when we were stopped at the top of Suikerbossie.
  9. Slightly up this month, but I had 9 days of non-stop going out and socialising (sometimes even meeting friends for lunch and dinner). I gained 2kg in that time, managed to drop 1.5kg of those since Monday thanks to clean eating and IF (most of it must have been water weight). I also stepped up my training at gym, adding in 2 days of HIIT in the mornings. My body is happily tired and sore...
  10. This week has been wreaking havoc on my weight loss. Friends are here from out of town, plus local friends are finally over the winter hermitting so I've somehow been out (normally for lunch/dinner) every day since Saturday, and very little gym time. It's been great catching up with them so I'm taking it in stride. I've been following a IF protocol this week to limit the impact but my weight is still up a bit as a result of all the good food. I'm hoping that a large portion of it is mainly water weight.
  11. I also started the keto thing about 10 days ago. It's a bit of an adjustment but I think I managed to get over the worst of it. Managed to be consistently under 70kg this week, which hasn't happened in years... I honestly love carby food too much to look at this as a long term thing, but a couple of months to lean out are definitely on the cards. First Thursday yesterday was a bit of a mine field with all the yummy food at the night market.
  12. I'm pretty sure that would be 5 million pieces of mail - whether letters or parcels. I would assume that the majority of these (especially the letters) would be sorted automatically with machines...
  13. it is the R1900 activation fee which is the reason I didn't join VA last year. And that still excludes your card fee. I am a previous member, so why am I paying more than R2k for someone to change my address on the system? all the rest of the details haven't changed. Right now I have a weightlifting package with a CrossFit gym close to home and work. Yes, I pay more than I would if I was at VA with Vitality, but the coaches all know me by name, they don't mind keeping the gym open late on occasion to allow me to finish my workout, the equipment is better for my purpose. For me it feels good to give VA the finger for the ridiculous joining fee they charge...
  14. Try again now... I fiddled a little bit, think i managed to get rid of that filter you were talking about.
  15. Muscle is not "heavier", 1kg of muscle weighs the same as 1kg of fat. Muscle is denser, so it takes up less space...
  16. Does anyone know whether there are timed results for this event? and if so... my googling obviously sucks so if you could be so kind as to post a link
  17. I was told by my trainer that exercise is not a punishment, food is not a reward...
  18. Happy to say that my weight is back where I was at the beginning of March, minus 0.2kg. My gym workouts are feeling tough but I walk out feeling like I have more in the tank. I've been cycling relatively regularly The biggest thing is that even though I am working 11 - 12 hour days at the office right now, I'm taking some time to meal prep on a Sunday so I've been managing to eat well even with my stress levels being pretty high and I feel like I'm never home other than to sleep.
  19. Meal prep... I bring all the food I eat to the office, I try not to quickly pop to the deli down the road for lunch unless it's really unavoidable. I often make a few big batches of food over the weekend (I love my slow cooker for that) and use that for lunch during the week. It means I can control what I eat. Take all your snacks with you as well. When I do go grab something, I make sure to choose with my brain, not with my stomach (chicken breast and salad over pies). I often log what I am planning to eat that day in the morning, so I can see where my calories are coming in and make adjustments early enough so I don't sit with 100 calories left for dinner. And lots of water, as Pieter said. I also have a tendency to walk when someone calls me on my cell phone, so I pace up and down a quieter section of the office.
  20. I'm always very wary of sugar substitutions, especially now that they are finding out how harmful stuff like aspartame is. Why not bite the bullet, cut out the sweet stuff and let the palate re-adjust. Much better that way and less likely to go back to eating sweets than if you just replace one item with a lesser evil.
  21. I made an fragrant curry lamb "potjie" in the slow cooker. Enough food for 8 people, froze half of it... come a cold day in winter - all the noms!
  22. Since you grilled it... did you not at any point see it was too much food? Could you have not cut it in half before, and either kept it in the fridge to grill a day or two later, or put it in the freezer? I often make a roast chicken and a big pot of something in the slow cooker on the weekend and that's most of my meals done for the week. Leftover steak? Fantastic to cut up and use with a lot of veg in a stir fry. Buy a smaller steak. Eat more leftovers instead of binning them. Most things can be eaten 4-5 days after they have been cooked. If your wife does the shopping, go with her. Don't just sit there and blame her when she can't defend herself.
  23. Heartbreak has been known to be a powerful weight loss motivator... But on a more serious note - take responsibility. I don't know how she is not getting your portion control right. If she dishes up for you - you don't have to eat everything on the plate or dish up for yourself. On a side note: It really riles me up that you blame her for things such as your weight gain. I hope your marriage survives if this is your attitude after 3 years.
  24. Why blame the wife for your portion control? If she's not getting it right, can you not do your own portion control? We as humans tend to blame others for our own failings. Take responsibility. You've identified a problem, now take steps to fix it.
