  1. Finally getting some progress! Combination of eating better, started tracking calories again and cycling a lot (for me) over the last 3 days and the scale is finally moving in the right direction. Aim now - finish April lighter than I started March, and I would deem myself back on track.
  2. My body seems to be holding on to whatever weight I gained over the Easter weekend away. I just can't seem to get it off. It's been frustrating, and I'm trying to remember that it's not a linear process. My eating has been pretty on point, I'm in gym 3-4 times a week and getting on the bike over the weekend. I haven't been sleeping all that much though, and stress at work is also not helping. I've actually set a reminder on my phone to get to bed earlier so I've been getting more than 7 hours a night since Sunday. Guess it's back to tracking calories, and trying to reduce stress at the office, which isn't going to be helped by a massive deadline for month end...
  3. This weekend was not kind... Even though it was a mountain biking weekend away, all the food shop and cooking was done by a pair of foodies that love spending time in the kitchen. 71.4kg on Friday morning, 72.7kg today (no access to a scale over the weekend). Most of that will be water weight, so it should drop in the next few days as I clean up my eating. Somehow still hurts a bit to enter the number into the spreadsheet I can't edit the document though... anyone else having that problem?
  4. I'm right back where I started March, and surprisingly happy with that. It will be a bit of a problem this weekend as I'm going away for a friend's birthday, and know there will be too much wine and food. At least the majority of people going are cyclists and there will be some nice trails, so the mountain bike is coming with.
  5. Such is... life My parents are down in Hermanus and I'm seeing them this weekend, luckily they know my preference for healthy food, there might be a few extra drinks though. I managed to get to ride in on Saturday (thanks to a loaned bike and helmet) and to gym yesterday. My bruising didn't do too badly so I'm re-starting with my weightlifting, which normally is a massive mental reminder to eat well.
  6. March is not going well so far... Weight was coming down nicely, but then I was involved in a crash at the CTCT so I have been eating more comfort food, plus a few extra social engagements in the past week, and I'm 0.7kg up from beginning of March. It's not a lot, so I want to buckle down for these last 10 days and at least get 0.8kg down so I start April at least a positive note...
  7. Day started great. Mom and I got up early, trundle down to the start line, get in the chute at I’m off at 3D, ready for a day of great riding. I’m sitting in a nice bunch going down the Blue Route just before Ladies Mile, when I can feel someone touch my back wheel. Initially I can keep my balance, but then I feel my bike disappear underneath me and I hit the tar, 7-8 other bikes going down as well. I do a quick physical check and nothing seems to be broken. I finally manage to get up and move my bike out of the road, but my back wheel has 5 broken spokes so my race is over. One of the guys in the crash has quite a bad cut above his eye and broken collarbone, so a few of us unable to ride (as well as some helpful spectators) take care of him until the paramedics arrive. I must have hit something during the fall cause my chest was in quite a bit of pain, so I spent a few hours in the afternoon getting checked at hospital, but I am lucky. Nothing broken, no muscle damage, I am just severely bruised. Bruised with a side of bruises… I even have a gorgeous deep red stripe on my leg where I got hit by another cyclist who couldn't avoid me lying in the road. Everything happened so fast it's a blur, so I'm not sure how I managed to avoid any and all roasties. But I am supremely lucky. My helmet is cracked (it did its job) and my back wheel broken, but it's nothing that a bit of rest and a visit to the bike shop won't rectify.
  8. I don't think I'll be making my goal of under 70kg by CTCT, but so far I am happy that the weight seems to be creeping down and staying down, other than the daily fluctutations...
  9. She might be gaining muscle as she's losing fat. So the scale stays the same, but because muscle is denser than fat, the clothes sit better. Other option is that the fat cells are storing up water as they are getting emptier of fat stores. At some point the body gets rid of a lot of this water in a short time, causing a large-ish drop on the scale (aka the whoosh effect). Bottom line - she should keep going. Take measurements as well as an additional way to measure fat loss. At some point, the scales will move
  10. i was surprised to see a 1kg loss for January this morning... was up at 73.9 on Tuesday, so dropped 1.9kg (mainly water weight if you ask me) over two days
  11. It's great to have a long term goal, and you'll surely make it if you keep going. I lost 10kg in 3 and half months about 2 years ago when I was specifically working towards Sani2c, and it made such a difference on the bike. I need to buckle down a bit more, no more excuses. Weight has gone up over where it was when I started (pretty sure there is some water weight in that at least). Hopefully there will at least be a little drop by the February weigh-in
  12. this past weekend was complete debauchery with regards to food and drink, but you can't go to Up the Creek and not enjoy the party. Hopefully now the birthday celebrations are well and truly over (i do love my friends that they still see it as a reason to have shots more than 10 days after the actual event), I can buckle down and lose 3kg by the time the Argus rolls around.
  13. I think I drank a whole bottle of that on my own on Saturday... I blame the birthday celebrations. Birthday is over, back to eating better and drinking less (until Up the Creek this weekend)
  14. I've switched to whiskey and water when I'm out nowadays... less calories than beer or anything with a mixer.
  15. One thing that really helps me keep sane is the "Rule of One" If you're going to have a bad meal, only have one. Make sure the next meals are healthy. You should only have one late night. You should only skip one workout. It allows a little bit of lee-way, but makes sure that the good habits stay in place by making sure that the "bad habits" are minimized. Aim at getting things right 90% of the time, but no one is perfect. The 10% might slow down progress fractionally, but we all have lives to live and enjoy
  16. Been debating on whether to take part or not, but I'm in! I'm aiming to be under 70kg by the time the CTCT rolls around, if I can stay there until end of the year I'll be happy. I'm not sure whether I'll be able to get all the way down to 68kg but it's something to aim for
  17. I have been following this thread every day, hoping for more good news. Keep fighting, baby Karmi. One of my friends in Durban had a preemie a few years back, and she has asked if anyone knows of a family in need of baby girls clothes including prem & tiny baby sizes. Would the family be interested? I would be happy to pay for courier costs.
  18. I have a Specialized bib, most comfortable pair I own so I wear them on most of my rides. Definitely worth it, IMO. I've had them for about 18 months now, and they are holding up really well.
  19. I hope someone might have a recommendation... I am looking for a company that can assist in specifying 2x coffee machines in a new office for approx. 80 people. Does anyone have a contact?
  20. I had the Selle Italia Diva Gel Flow... My parts didn't agree. I'm now on a Specialized Phenom, much better for me. I still have the Selle Italia, need to actually just sell it. I'm never riding on it again
  21. I have made something similar to these quite often: http://www.nutritionistinthekitch.com/apricot-cashew-energy-bars/ I normally use honey instead of the agave, and chia seeds instead of the hemp seeds, but along the same basic lines
  22. All great and well earning it back over 4 months, but times are tough right now and I can't afford to shell out R2.5k on gym fees in one go. Unless I don't want to eat for the rest of the month. Or I could sell a bicycle
  23. I wanted to join the gym yesterday... R1725 joining fee??? Are they having a laugh? (probably are, on the way to the bank...) No such charge levied on Momentum members either... Can't afford to shell out R2k just to get a gym membership
  24. Seeing lots of smoke and smells like fire here in Greenpoint
