  1. My order arrived in JHB on the 5th at 09:44. (Accordign to Parcelforce) When I phoned to ask for the local number today, the guy told me that it's not yet arrived in SA, so it's been lying here for 2 work days and it's not even been scanned.
  2. I'm trying to register my racing partner for a MTB license. I could just join the site and add my license online + the photo and submitted it and payed my cart. Her ID number is already registetred on Myrace so we can log into her profile, but there's no links to add a new license/club or to upgrade. Does this mean we have to fill out the forms and fax everything through now? Like in the old days? We kinda need the lic. number before the 10th. Tarryn at CSA told me that she'll give us a number the moment we registyer and pay, so what now. I would have preferred to submit everything online like with my own lic. If we fax it means that we have to take ID photos too now.. ? ? ? ? ? ?
  3. Yes, that makes sense. But many races have different category prizes + overall prizes for first to 3rd of 5th. We generally assume that the overall prizes will be taken by men... was just wondering...
  4. It's unlikely to happen in big races where there's a lot of fast male riders. But what happens if a top lady rider comes to a smaller race and finish in the top 3 overall. Does she qualify for prize money for her overall (top 3) position, PLUS the prize money for the first lady? I think she should get both if she manages to finish top 3 overall. What do you think?
  5. Anyone here used the EQ21's before?
  6. He had a rifle in his hands when I rode past that day. He's probably got a shotgun too. I decided to compose a letter to make all the farmers aware that we ride there at night. (although they are already aware of us, there a good number of us riding there at different times) I will mention that any further shooting at us, or near us will be taken seriously and a case will be opened.
  7. Enige info iemand?
  8. Just a tip. With tubeless and such high pressures, you not only lose grip, but the tyre is prone to cuts when it's so hard. Bigger puncture holes also take more time to seal with such high pressure behind the hole - normally some sealant is sprayed out as a mist before it seals when the pressure is lower.
  9. I do between 1.7 and 2 bar for 1.9's to 2.1's. I'm 68kg. Never over 2 bar for any tyre for me.
  10. Ek ry amper elke dag daar.... daai mense WEET ons ry daar.
  11. I've successfully plugged cuts up to 8mm long... just plug it... in about 500km's the outer visable part of the plug will be worn down but just leave it like that, it won't come out either way.
  12. Thanx, I've owned 3 Sigma HRM's in the last 4 years and kinda feel like not going back that route... maybe their top line computers are better. Seems the Blackburn Neuro 6 also have a few good functions but there's so many negative reviews about it. Brighter-Lights2009-08-04 10:40:20
  13. Apparently 5 year guaranty. The PC Link is their new top computer and not much can be found about it in forums yet, but most people with other VDO computers swear by them.
  14. They are very reasonably priced. The best value for money is the the VDO HC 12.6 HRM and Cycle computer. R800 at LBS... $40 at Nashbar The Z3 PC Link is R2900 + R400 for cadence sensor which then enables the power measurement. Have not looked into Suunto. Just want a computer with good HRM, Altitude info. and Temp is a bonus...
  15. I've been looking for a decent cycle computer for a while and now found VDO. Garmin 305 Edge doesn't have the battery life, although I can make an external extention, but then it's not waterproof anymore. Polar CS400 and CS600 - too many problems. (read forums - 1000's of problems) VDO.... I've been looking into the VDO Z3 PC Link lately... a smart computer with a multitude of info displayed and downloadable to PC. Most noticably is the 5 year guaranty. Besides, VDO makes instrumentation for Porche, Mercedes and many others. Anyone here using a VDO computer? Any complaints about the one you're using?
  16. No reason to yell. If youre as fast and experienced, you'll be able to identify when someone is just cruizing along, or when someone is whobbly and nervous. When I start lapping the field in a xc or 24hr I do the above. If I see a nervous rider ahead of me (especially in singletrack) I approach calmly and ride behind him if it's the type of singletrack where I can't pass in the bush. You don't want to make someone crash when you're sitting on his wheel. I'll calmly talk to the person from behind and tell him that I'm gonna pass as soon as the trail allows for it. And then a THANK YOU and off I go. Makes ME feel good and I'm sure the rider I passed as well. You get the hero's who try to challenge you when you lap them on lap 6, when you're just hanging on, but they also disappear at the next little uphill. I remember in 24hrs Omni-Motion near one of my last laps, a team rider came flying past me without warning and dangerously close to me. I might have been slower than him, but I've ridden over 400km at that time. I lost my composure for a moment and jumped the pedals and rode him in from behind and almost kicked him off his bike - I didn't yell at him, but I was close to feeling like really hurting him... the emotions of a 24hr solo.. but normally I'm not abusive towards others. What do we want to 'klap' someone? I remember in Seweweekspoort 2006 just after the start, I was still with the leaders and some sponsored rider who didn't know me, came from behind and yelled at me. I was 6th in the leader train. At that moment I felt like I could get off and kick his face off his body. Yes... aggression triggered by aggression....
  17. Thys, Apology accepted. I know just how exciting it can be. Putting stuff together and switching it on the first time! Last June I one night spent from 22:00 to 03:00 taking beamshots in the forest. Rode out 20km with a backpack full of lights... that's what makes it fun! Have fun with it. It's fun, and sometimes headaches too. Regards Johannes
  18. Thys, I think Chris was ok with you using his design and publishing it on the forum if you've made one for yourself and wanted to show others. That's also why I didn't chirped in earlier. But it all changed when you put a pricelist up -> indicating production. Good luck with your lights. I can honestly say that in my 3 years of lights building I have never asked anyone a single question. I gained knowledge by doing research and tests. There's no quick and easy way, although it's a lot easier getting ideas with people like Troutie-MTB posting on MTBR. So I get offended if someone walks up to me with those type of questions, because if I don't know something, I do research or figure it out. I'm too proud to ask and expect easy answers. Unfortunately, we have to protect what we've worked for. Enjoy. Johannes www.brighter-lights.com Brighter-Lights2009-07-31 08:16:02
  19. Troutie-MTB is waiting activation on THE HUB and will post when that happens. Here's a few extractions from his email to me: Hi Johannes "Now I feel very used and abused , you story is very similar to how he approached me asking questions. He even nearly bought a light kit from me and then backed out and only bought the leds/optics/maxflex he used in his light . but now having read the postings on your link I am pretty pissed off . I will sign up to the hub and put everyone right on how I feel about the blatant rip off of our designs . And the fact he is using my beamshots in his posts is out of order . Thanks again for bringing it to my notice I will be posting something up soon when I have cooled down a bit Cheers Chris
