  1. I assume I am correct in calling the hub the part where my rear wheel gear cluster is bolted to. Anyways.... I am getting a "clack" sound when pulling away in the rear cluster and when I freewheel for any length and try to pedal, I spin a few revs until I get traction alsmost like the ratchet in the gear cluste hub is not engaging. My drive train is all new, gear cluster, front sprockets and chain - only the hub was not changed. Can someone confirm my suspician that the hub needs changing. The bearings seem also a bit worn as there is a slight wobble on the gear cluster
  2. Entry fee very reasonable considering how well run the event is and a nice bottle of wine and decent lucky draw prises. Just for comparison, the Penny pincher series cost a whole whack more than this event and seemed less well organised but not anything to moan about. Were there official photographers along the routes where we can get prints? Couldn’t remember seeing any flashes blinding me on any of the downhills.
  3. I suddenly developed a knee issue when I changed my bottom bracket due to a failed bearing and the replacement given (only one available at the time) was 4mm further to the chainring side. After two long rides the issue dissapeared luckily as I assume my joints got used to the new position. So far so good.
  4. All clear on my side thank goodness. Back to pushing to my limit
  5. My doc called me back after double checking my results with his colleague and advised me to go for a CT scan of my heart just to be sure of something he thought he saw. Just came back from it now - filled my veins with dye and took a couple snaps of my ticker. Waiting with baited breath for the all clear.Saturdays race brought a few chest pains again but one is never sure if it’s muscle or …..
  6. how does the CS600 link to PC?
  7. 42 was quite tough if I remeber last year and pretty cold
  8. 3h09 - 20 minutes off last year
  9. This sonic link idea is so frustrating. In the beginning polar gave me the required settings for a laptop microphone which has worked ok up to now. Now that I have one ride that I am trying to upload and no matter what I try it refuses. At exactly 49% transfer the watch has a slight pause in the data stream (morse code) and this is when the bloody thing looses the link. Been trying for 30 minutes now and no joy. I even tried adding an extra quick exercise to the watch to see if would get rid of that slight pause in the data stream but no difference. Any ideas or experience with this. Ta
  10. I climbed 749 meters but that was according Endomondo and Blackberry so not sure if true - felt like an easy route but I was still recovering from injury so took it easy. 55 km's was actually 52 on my log.
  11. Just out of interest, my test went fine and the doc let me push to 184 BBM and said all ok. If it happens again I will need to go for a heart scan to see if any problems but otherwise he said I need't worry. Good news just beore my 55 on Saturday
  12. I am going this pm for my stress test at my Phisician because I had a spike for about 1 minute where I hit 188 bbm on a section where I normally sit at 172 bbm. (fairly steep hill on MB) Just after I noticed the spike a got a funny tingling in my hands and the rest of the ride I felt slight pains in my chest. Have been to a couple spinning classes after and it didnt happen again but for safety I am doing the test to be 100% sure. Will revert later with results.
  13. I rode on Saturday afternoon and saw two green patrol SANPARKS vehicles, one at base of plumb pudding, the other driving on the way to dear park side. They chewed me out for riding alone, but soon enough a few more bikes came past me, so the numbers thing will probably work in our favour.
  14. I also was not impressed with after sales service - to me the workshop seemed way too small and I was never happy when I got the new bike back and ended up setting up the gears and breaks myself. The prices were not bad, but you prefer the whole package to be good, otherwise you feel weird taking a new bike to another dealer for repairs. I also find when I go to buy parts etc. they ignore you until you make an effort to ask for help in buying something.
  15. While lying in the hospital watching MTB on sports channel, I noticed most accidents had the bike still welded to the competitors feet until impact, when the bike finally let go. In my strap on pedals I give a big push and most times manage to clear the handle bars and land on my feet or in a bush. I had many falls with my cleats and swore to change them, but left it one day too late. At least the school fees, although expensive, resulted in me still continuing on the MTB even though walking can be little painfull and numb toes after a cycle are the only complications
  16. This is why I no longer ride in cleats - no matter how loose I set them, never got out when I needed to in a hurry and I enjoy the really technical stuff and never push downhill. Cost was R75K for repairs - got back R500 on Gumtree for pedals and shoes and bought strap on pedals and leave them slightly loose for quick escape. Much happier - my opinion based on 21 years on a MTB using strap on pedals. http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee420/Landy1973/IMG00293-20110127-1922.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee420/Landy1973/IMG00102-20110128-1601.jpg

  20. I was wondering something - I broke my scapula and tore some rotator cup muscles at the Lourensford MTB the other day. I have kept up some spinning classes 3 times a week after 2 weeks rest - The start will be about 8 weeks from accident date - do you guys think I will be healed enough for a road race of this distance? I have an argus entry so would like to try out a similar distance to gauge it. My body feels ok but have not been on the bike yet.
  21. Just returned from Ortho. Doctor who said I managed to punch my shoulder bone through my scapula and the associated muscles and ligaments also took a beating. 6 weeks in a sling till bone heals. Starting to see a worrying pattern developing. 22. My 57 km ended here when I tried overtaking on a left and a branch steered my handlebars at 90 degrees at 30+ km/h http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee420/Landy1973/2012-09-30121142.jpg
  23. Anyone riding this year's 50 - climbing doesn't look too bad but above sugests otherwise?
  24. I get 1500 km's because I don't use them much downhill Thanks guys, I did do the alignment as per some youtube video guide by loosening and grabbing the breaks and then tightening the caliper bolts. Will replace and do more frequent checks to monitor wear
  25. My discs have reached the end of their life and at my last race the spreader spring ended up getting jammed into the disc and caused hell of a noise and rubbed for the last 15km’s. When I removed the pads I noticed they have a camber worn into them. i.e. the top of the two pads are thinner than the lower. Is this an indication of poor alignment or problem with the pistons. Any ideas? Bike is 18 months old with 1500km on the pads
