  1. I am fixing up my first ever MTB for my old man which included sandblasting the frame down to bare metal. I was thinking of putting on new Decals if it is worth getting a once off order. Does anyone know what a few stickers ( 4 in total) may cost, or is it way cheaper just to stensil and spray the letters myelf? The bike was a Cignal Ozark from waaaay back in about 1989 - spent some of my study bursary money to buy her to my parents horror - also broke a few bones on that thing that had no shox.
  2. 7 pictures - couple of doubles. As mentioned not the letter, only race number
  3. I managed 17 minutes better than last year on the 60 - I didn't realise the climbing was as steep as 1900 m. My Endomondo on my B.B said 1000m ! I am one of those still riding with strap on pedals from the 90's - long story why but no way I will change to cleats again. I also remebered this year to avoid those nasty H beams in the tunnel near the end and saw a few blokes changing tires here as I assume they didn't
  4. Last year I started in D which I thought was way too high and ended on a 4h06 for the 60km. This year they stuck me in C group ! - that cant be right? I wonder if one is allowed to start further back or is there not much chance I am going to hold back faster riders?
  5. That ride to the mast is pretty tough even for the fit. 30 km should just about get your legs warm and then you can come home and tackle the mast again
  6. Hi guys I stripped down my derailure after a muddyWolseley race and found my Merida rear derailure has a bit of play (wobbles) where the drailure mounting bolt passes through the alloy body. How much wear can this have before I throw it away? I cant see that the housing is alloy and the hole is worn a bit oversized. I guess I could bore it out at work and machine an oversized bolt but maybe the whole derailure is tired by now....
  7. Did anyone get medals? I came too late for any "party pack" either.
  8. According Racetec only 62 timed finishers on the 68 - seemed more than that!
  9. I did 3 laps of the bottom route and one lap of the top route of the supposed 68 and ended on 59.2 km. I was pretty much alone on the last lap so not sure if I was very slow or other guys did the top route twice? Very confusing ended up doing a 3h18 which must have been slow judging by how many were already at the finish.
  10. I never had any luck with my Windows 7 PC (even had a Polar Rep with me to try setting it up in person) so I tried at home on my very old Windows XP machine with a cheap little microphone plugged in the socket and the recording volume very low and it works every time now. Only problem is when the XP eventually dies I will have to throw thes piece of crap CS300 away and Go Garmin
  11. I got up the hill quicker in 2'nd gear because you have to push harder to keep the momentum required for that gradient
  12. Shot jadeg - seems like I never looked properly, what my wife always says when I am looking for stuff
  13. Stupid me never noticed that you could create a route, will give it a go - I assume on the PC
  14. DJR - my monitor is already beeping after 180 so I have to mute the alarm so as not to annoy other riders or telll them how much I am suffering. Hence my question to others who ride this little slope - just an interest factor, nothing scientific Swiss-Van - The conditions are the same between testing HRates in the two different gears - but obviosely not after each other as once a day on that slope is enough for me
  15. anyone know if you can get an app or similar that you can make up a route via say Garmap or T4A and then save the file on your cell and then use it while cycling? Especially when you cycle in a new area. If you pre-plan the route on a PC and save it to the cell you can just check where you are now and again when in range. I have found Endomondo on my BB pretty good at showing off road trails and you can more or less get by on that. Last used it at Jonkershoek and got me to the top of the hill.
  16. I managed to use my Racetech chip in KZN at the Karkloof - they just reprogrammed it somehow, ony took a minute.
  17. Just wanted to compare some of your guys figures if recorded on the hill up to Block House known as Plumb Pudding or Dead Man's hill. I clock 182 bbm in Granny and 186 in 2nd Gear - Age = 42 Just wondering why my HR seems to be climbing more but my times are comming slightly down. Is it fitness or just pushing harder?
  18. That crash cost me R70,000 to repair my hip - all well after 6 months off the MTB but now back to full strength 2 years later. Still get a stiff hip and pains when cold but being 41 years old now - to be expected I sold those "rugby boots" and my cleat pedals on Gumtree that I never got used to unclipping in a hurry which you need on serious MTB and the reason for my broken hip - back to strap on pedals like when I started MTB in 1989 (probably before most of you were born)
  19. That's not my head - the comb is in my hip
  20. Before http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee420/Landy1973/IMG-20120204-00131_zps7a72dded.jpg After http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee420/Landy1973/IMG00293-20110127-1922.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee420/Landy1973/IMG00102-20110128-1601.jpg
  21. had the Polar rep try and set up my Laptop with even hs own microphone but still no joy. I did manage to get it to work on my old XP machine at home with an old microphone but that PC is very old and due o die soon. Guess it will be Garmin when this happens. Pisses you off that they can use this old style still in this age of technology as it clearly does not keep up with technology.
  22. I was hoping the new FWB would improve my time, but alas, all I got was a smooth race with no more ringing the plums on the crossbar.
  23. No time to test - straight replacement, was easy job. Part was exact copy so all good
  24. Thanks, got theFWB at crown cycles for R270 , will refit tonight and test it at Greyton on Saturday
  25. The Rear Hub is Shimano FH-M475 VIAM. The Freehub Body I noticed wobbles when the wheel is spinning. i.e the gear cluster wobbles slightly. I did not know this unit can be pulled apart. I assume you need to buy a tool that would cost more than the part? Thanks for the advise chaps. Will see what a new unit costs.
