    Polar V800

It could have been done neater, I know, but it was in the middle of the night and I was in a hurry!

For those interested, it turns out that you can charge the V800 during recording, allowing you to save high accuracy data at long cycling events. During the 36ONE I connected my unit to a power bank at checkpoint 2 and took it off again at checkpoint 3. We rode at an easy pace and recorded 19H57, with 50% battery left at the end. Unfortunately my bum only lasted about 16 hours, so I was in pain for the last 4 hours!

Anyone with actual experience regarding charging during recording and speed/distance accuracy in power saving mode?

    Polar V800

Has anyone tried charging the V800 during an event? I've read that it's possible, but I'd like to know for sure. I need it to last for about 20 hours, but also need my speed & distance to be accurate. In power save mode it takes a reading every 1 minute, so not sure how accurate the distance/speed reading will be on a winding road. Also, can't seem to find out what "medium accuracy" means. It's supposed to give up to 23 hours, but don't know what the reading intervals are. I don't have a speed sensor.
  5. My humble opinion - lose the kudu logo...
  6. You DO qualify, provided you joined before doing the event.
  7. I cannot imagine anybody reaching R1500 cash back. On the current diary that runs till end of May there are 3 running events and 0 cycling events qualifying for cash back. If memory serves there was none for April.
  8. Not so. If you join TV you are a full member with all the benefits, no need to join Club 100.
  9. I thought it would be a logical abbreviation for "skipping rope with a digital counter in the handle". Forgive me, I'm a Dutchman
  10. I agree that Discovery messed up by releasing the product too early. They weren't ready, with almost no events that qualify for the 50% cash back. Also, you qualify for the Vitality points anyway, so no need to join for that. I had a feeling I wasted my R600. However, I received my shirt and it's a quality product. I then went on a ride with them and got a smoothie and a nice breakfast afterwards. Then I joined them at their hospitality venue after the Argus, and that was awesome. They also handed out a (better than Cycle Tour) goody bag with a bunch of high value items, including digital skipping rope, and mostly full size samples worth at least a couple of 100 bucks. In my opinion I've got my money's worth already, and with the prospect of having free after race shade, snacks & drinks at future events it can only get better. I'm also pretty sure they'll be adding plenty of events in future. I'm happy...

I was just referring to the picture in the comparison link Izak posted, haven't seen it yet. However, looking at the introduction video on the Polar site, it does look pretty bulky on that pretty lady's arm...

    * The V800 HAS an alarm clock. In fact, it vibrates which helps to wake me up. * I DO sometimes have issues with a GPS signal on my V800. * The M400 is much bulkier.

I charged my watch on Friday morning, recorded the 8H24 ride on Saturday and when I got home on Sunday morning the battery bar seemed to be at about 40% (not sure if there's a way to see the exact %). Pretty decent. Maybe if you disable some features like vibrating feedback and tap sensor you could extend it a bit.

I'm doing the Double Century tomorrow in a group on mountain bikes. We'll probably be in the saddle for at least 8-9 hours, so I'll let you know how far it goes in 1 second mode.

    Polar V800

The V800 was delivered at my home and my daughter sent me a picture. It's the same as before, so I phoned Polar. Turns out the new parts will only be available at a later stage, but I was the "one in a million" it happened to. Nothing I did, and nothing I can do to prevent it from happening again, cause it shouldn't. To be fair, I AM the one this type of thing will happen to (Murphy's laws are all about me), so don't stress too much about your V800. I just wish they designed it to use a normal micro USB like the new M400. Replacing that fancy V800 cable is not going to be cheap...

Yes, thanks for asking. I should have it back today. It's happened before, something to do with the charging contacts on the inside of the watch. They're replacing the back and it apparently now comes with a cover for the external contact/charging points. I'll see when it get's here.

The watch has recorded everything, no problems there. It's just not making contact with the (any) pc. Can only be a contact issue. The contacts are super clean and the cable is always in my drawer when not in use, so it might be a hardware (watch) issue.

Who will do it (overnight) for R80? Speed Services is the only company I know that will. Postnet is R185.

With Speed Services striking, getting the watch to Midrand will now cost me R180 one way! If only Polar had a local workshop...

Even with the site down, it should still charge. I cleaned the contacts with a earbud & surgical spirits and then a dry cloth, no joy. I wish I could borrow a cable to check if it works. I'd hate to lose a full week of use when I could have carried on using the watch and just waited for a new cable. Again, if only they had a local workshop...

Mine won't connect since yesterday. Still worked fine on Saturday but after my road ride on Sunday nothing happens when I connect it to a pc - doesn't charge nor sync. I did a "soft reboot" and cleaned all the contacts, still nothing. Super frustrating! When will Polar open a workshop in Cape Town?!
  22. The battery on my WIND Speed Sensor died and I just phoned Polar. They told me to throw it away and buy a new one...WTF? Apparently it's cheaper (for Polar, not for me!) to just manufacture a sealed unit. Also, they reckon R500 isn't bad considering it lasted 2 years. Seeing as I've got nothing to loose, I'm going to make like the guy on YouTube and replace it myself. If it works - great, if it doesn't - I was going to throw it away anyway, right? Kinda kills the second hand market on these...
  23. It was a great event, proper workout (42km), excellent water points and a great atmosphere. 7am sounds early, but on the day it was a life saver! See you again next year. Anybody know where the results can be found?
  24. Where in CPT can I have my wheels trued and Chris King hubs serviced professionally?
  25. Normal 30cm steel rules are at least 31cm long. Usualy they are blank on the flipside. Borrow a tool, make the 2 marks (306.4mm & 308mm) with a scribe and you're set. Hello Jan!
