  1. for a specific ride? or just for everyday use??
  2. build one yourself. Think you should have a ok ride with 230 + lumens. Are you in the western cape?
  3. where in the western cape are you based?
  4. Putting a lefty on another bike is just wrong!!! I have a headshok wich basicly work the same inside... it has a 8 sided "rod" inside and there's neadle bearings running on 4 of the sides, running on needle bearing just make it so much smoother than, well any other fork not running on them. If you take good care of your lefty or headshok they should last very long. Just be sure to inspect the boot every two weeks or so to make sure there is no hole or tear in the boot. And then again the weight. the headshok weighs 1.24 kgs for 80mm travel and I believe the carbon lefty weights in at about the same, with the rest of them at +-1.45kgs. your front wheel just obviously need a lefty hub, so if you're planning on building a bike over on the scalpel you'll have to get hold of a lefty hub and have the front wheel rebuilt.
  5. just had a look at your pm scuzzy. think you're talking about the old housing. It's a machined midas flash light. I have a look between my stuff if there's still one lying around.
  6. Hi scuz Haven't had time to develope the new housings yet. Will do it right after my exams. Will definitly let you know as soon as I have them done!!
  7. Well I will defenitly keep an eye on this thread as I would love to try out your single track when it's complete!! As for the race, I hope they get it on the map again as a good race, cause it really is a stunning area for mountainbiking!! Maybe they should get dirtopia involved??
  8. nope did not do it myself but spoke to a lot of people who did and this was more or less what they all had to say. don't know about how the single track was but the people I spoke to felt that it was a little bit a waste of time as they were just going "heen en weer" to not really get anywhere. And some guys just walked straight across the veld and ignored the single track. It was advertised that there's no single track on the 40km route. So for starters I think that the route should be what it's advertised to be. And they said there was to many places where they just threw you off the road for the fun of it, that was a bit unnecessary. On the 80km stretch the guys said they really did a lot of useless riding that frustrated them. The marshalling and marking for the race was said to be poor and a few guys missed turns. Also the cutt off time was moved for some but others where not given a medal when they went to ask for one. The one guy said, in his words "I have never seen such a f$&k you attitude at any other bike race". Can't remember his name. If the single track is open i'll definetly go ride it sometime for fun!! But sounds like it's a more ride for the love of it, trial than a race trial. But all in all sounded like a K$K organised race and a not fun or pratical route!, rather a "see if you can ride this" route... At the end they didn't even know who won the ladies, so they just anounced that the ladies winner must please be honest and come forward. That is pathetic!night tider2009-05-19 03:23:05
  9. Did you build the route for the past weekends motagu ride?
  10. I for one have learned my lesson 2 years ago with the stb wine festival, it only stopped raining 5 o'clock that morning. It was also mainly on farm roads, and I promise you there is a lot of soft clay and mud on those roads after a couple hundred riders went over it. I decided that it's not worth it to put your bike through that conditions, unless you have the money to replace everything that needs replacing afterwards.... and at a certain point it's just nof fun anymore.
  11. Surely some people use them responsible, but the problem always lies with the domkop who can't, and for that reason banning it on certain rides will be better for everyone. Especially mtb rides!!! Then again I prefer to not have music around me when on a mtb ride, there's enough noise during the day... a little piece and quietness is always welcome!!
  12. you have to use a constant current regulator/driver for LEDs
  13. BL Where do you get the mountings you use?
  14. Dit gaan op my Mongoose Meteore Team HT. would like to see a pic of the bike when it's fitted...
  15. 44 29 normally works good with a 11 - 34 cassette night tider2009-03-28 08:52:37
  16. As dit natuurlik op 'n mongoose gaan kom sal dit baie smart lyk!!! Baie nice gedoen!!! night tider2009-03-28 08:47:14
  17. thanks i'll speak to them. Do you perhaps have a electronic copy of the manual? Will check if they have a website...
  18. Can anyone give me advice or refer me to a good manual to take my headshok apart? Want to do it myself but don't want to do it myself the first time...
  19. I have a question for who ever can give me advice. A lady friend wants to by a roadbike. She rides a 18" (medium) scott mtb. 1.74m tall, what size roadbike would fit her more or less? Would a 54cm be to small or to big? Please help... Is R3000 for a giant OCR 2 a good deal or not so great?
  20. the lights work very good. build myself more or less the same light. three cree q5's with two dimm levels. use individual lenses and a buckpuck driver, it's basic but works fine. If you use a lithium battery you prefrebly need a driver with protection. Bussy making another 5 for family and friends. It's really nice to have a good light to cycle with!! droo if you come and ride in jonkershoek, let me know, will be very keen to join and compare lights. Goodluck Looks great!!!night tider2008-11-06 10:20:56
  21. what mountings do you use? I have 5 lights that i'm building but can't get hold of decent mounting brackets...???
  22. would think scott!! Don't ride one myself but my sister and girlfriend does and it's really nice bikes. Had a really nice one stolen aswell. Handling from my point is very good. Haven't riden on too many bikes before though. The name also just look better on a frame!! If I had to get a different bike it would be a scott. Personaly if you got the money, get a cannondale!!! they're awesome, and light!!! What I can say from hearsay. one of my family members bought a new GT zaskar, which is also a very nice bike btw, and the words of the LBS owner was that you don't get as good value for money with the merida as with GT and SCOTT. As I say it's only hearsay...
  23. This thread is about stolen bikes not coulor. In Stellenbosch 90% of the bike thieves turn out to be coulored or black so then the issue becomes one that coulor plays a part in because of the majority's colour not because people are racists or something. I had a bike stolen before and took it back when I spotted a guy riding it after about 3 months. Recently my girlfriend's scott mtb where stolen of her res's balcony and I have a good idea of who stole the bike and they happened to be coloured, so if I ride or drive thru stb and I see a coulored person on a bike(that doesn't look like he belongs on it) I look at the bike and try to see if it's a scott matching the one stolen and I don't think there's something wrong with that. By doing that I'm not being a racist, i'm just trying to get a stolen bike of 6 odd grand back using the the information I have to do it. If a guy murders someone and the police know it's a 6ft tall white guy, they are going to look for a six ft tall white guy, they're not discriminating against tall white people they're just using the info they have.
  24. Thought it would be interesting to see how many chains hubbers use. I know some mountain bikers ride with more than one to prolong cassette and chainring life. night tider2008-11-02 01:40:04
  25. I'll never ride a sb8 again!! did it once in wet weather and it was an absolute night mare!!! its like a slick!!not even my completly worn down larsen TT is that bad!! If the ground is damp or dry then it's not too bad though... but don't ride it in mud, you'll have absolutly no traction! think i'll stay with my 2.0 but the 2.1 or 2.2 will probably carry 100kgs a little bit better!
