  1. Hey guys, Dennis has been busy with this years trails and he's got some spectacular routes planned, similar to last year but a few grin inducing surprises in store! It's gonna be an epic adventure!
  2. Don't forget our girls - Robyn De Groot 19th and Samantha Sanders 26th, all our riders did awesome - we 'aint got mountains like this in SA!
  3. This thread shouldn't be in Rant 'n Rave, just freekin RAVE!
  4. Specialized are on average 10% more expensive than any other brand of the same spec, using the same materials with the same labour, why? The specialised has been spouting the virtues of their 'brain' for almost a decade yet every incarnation gives more adjustment to the rider and offers a more 'active' ride, in other words try using your own brain. Scott all the way, unless you're a sheep.
  5. The Noon 2 Moon is flippin soon! its in Sabie on 1st December, Entries are now flooding in so don’t be a muppet and leave it too late, get your mates/family/colleagues /wadeva and get entered! As usual the race is a riot of single track mayhem and close dicing with enthusiastic competition throughout the field. As always the course is ideal for anyone, flat, twisty but not dangerous at all, the perfect way to end your season with your family and friends. For the first time since its inception some 13 years ago I won’t be able to ride (Boo Hoo) but the silver lining is that I’ll be there for the full 10 hours to commentate the whole race, from start to finish, hot sun to monsoon rains and bright sun to pitch blackness! So whatever your plans for December put the Noon 2 Moon at the top of your list! Entry form attached! Or at www.entrytime.com
  6. How did the Hub allow someone to call themselves BrettMTB when I've been BrettMTBer for 5 years or so, or is that trying to elicit debate, can 'er' be a suffix to even names now? Anyway 650B, 26er or 29er, its all bollocks, stop wasting your bosses bandwidth or get a life, just go ride yer bike.
  7. Sorry, hub didn't want to load entry forms but go to entrytime for all the info, its a killer event with a great chilled 'old school' vibe!
  8. Hi guys! Anyone out there keen for a race where yer lactic acid threshold means squat? Where brains can conquer brawn? Where getting lost is half the fun? Then the Sabie Shenanigan is for you, a team day / night MTB rally where, with the aid of our route maps, you navigate yourself thru those huge Sabie Mountains and down screaming single track. Its 40 or so kms in the day and 30 odd at night, getting lost was never so much of a blast! Its on the 27th October at Merry Pebbles in Sabie – all the info you need is attached, entries using above form or at www.entrytime.com, But remember – “in the dark, no one hears you scream!” Cheers Brett
  9. They are different tools for different jobs, in SA very few guys ride the sort of tight twisty steep technical trails that they have in Europe, we ride Marathons and at the most manicured single track a la Sani 2 C, for this 29ers rule regardless of your size. Most Saffers don't understand, or want slightly heavier 'Trail Bikes' where 650b is a more maneuverable weapon. 650b is for XC racers in lightweight Hardtail form or longer travel trail bikes for hucking off stuff.
  10. Momsen 650b built up, first on a shop floor in SA?
  11. 3 Towers is easily the best value, accommodation and food from the night before until the last day, the guys also don't mind you sticking around in your tent on the last night either, chance to get in a last chill ride before heading home - entries are open now and it will book up quickly.
  12. The 2012 Sabie Experience WILL absolutely be on! Some exciting changes are in the offing to re energise the event and guarantee its future!
  13. Its actually the American one for R36 for 9 issues - what a bargain!
  14. Hi guys, I don't post much but if you want the best mountain bike mags 'in the world' then subscribe to 'Bike' from the USA and Dirtrag - both work out at less than R30 per issue including postage! 'Bike' is real journalism with photo's that make ya wanna get out and ride. If you're interested in bike culture - SS, 29ers, 650bs, Hand Made stuff then Dirtrag is the business - www.bikemag.com and www.dirtrag.com - you'll never waste money on SA mags again!
  15. I got a 2011 R3 which I upgraded to Sram Force, Aero road (not TT) bikes are in the large part marketing hype, all the reviews say that they are generally not as stiff as the tubes have to maintain the 1:3 UCi ratio. Mark Cavendish sprinted the Addict frames for a couple of years so they are tough and proven. Addicts are also great value at the moment.
  16. The SA Champs are at the best DH course in the country - Mankele! July 21/22 2012! I am biased cos its our home venue but it's almost identical to this years Worlds course!
  17. I put X0 rings on mine, they work great and half the price. You just have to grind down the chain dropper pin on the inside of the big ring otherwise it hits the crank arm stopping you fit the ring to the spider.
  18. 9.5kg Santa Cruz Blur XC, XX, Stans + A2Z wheels, Conti MK 2.4 Supersonic run tubeless, Sid 100. Now has Reba 120 and Conti 2.4 MK Protection - 10kg dead but rides 200% better!
  19. go to www.mankele.co.za this is the real deal, set up by mountain bikers FOR mountain bikers, not some ex holiday resort trying to cash in on our sport, "The best place to mountain bike in SA" so said some dude called Burry, I think he won the Cape Septic or something?
  20. Anyone have any tracklogs or ride in Vryheid area, and does Paulpietersburg still have trails on Dumbe Mountain?
  21. Whats with the 'except Mankele'? Thats like going to Moab and not riding Slick Rock, Egypt without seeing the Pyramids, Pamala Anderson without a red one piece, Its all about the ride.
  22. The 2009 Subaru Sabie Classic will have a new 100km distance with possibly 3000m of climbing as well as the regular 15,40 & 70km, tough? Bet yer ass!
  23. Hi, what town are you at? I've got Xtreme Sports in Nelspruit and we service bikes from all over MP, Swaziland and Mozambique as well as Phalaborwa and even Zim, we even collect and deliver via local courier and do all the servicing at the Sabie Experience and Panorama tour, be proud of yer province!
