  1. The background: I bought some carbon rims to replace the Crests on our two Silverback Storms. Thought the black hubs and carbon rims would look hot with red spokes. Wanted something light, so narrowed the search down to DT Swiss Aerolites. The rant: The SA DT Swiss distributors don't import the Aerolites. BUT they can do a special import for me. Great! (?) No, not so great... They want to charge me R105 per spoke inc. nipple. That comes to a total of R13 440 for the 128 spokes required. **Faints**
  2. You guys have made some really good points. I guess because I find camping too much of a hassle/inconvenience to even want to do it, I just would not want the added stress of securing the bike/s. If staying in any brick-and-mortar type of accomodation I'd definitely take the bikes.
  3. Personally, I would not risk my bikes. If they are stolen, chances are good that insurance won't pay due to non-secure location.
  4. I'm not fond of extreme racing geometry, because I find such bikes uncomfortable and to have a tendency for skittishness. That being said, the Silverback Storm suffers from neither of those problems. The Storm 1 is more expensive than the 16k you're planning to spend, but it offers stupendous value. Then again, the Storm 2 is about 17k IIRC and is an absolute steal. Don't disregard this option until you've been for a test-ride http://www.silverbacklab.com/2011_website_SILVERBACK/web_gallery/images/storm1.jpg http://www.silverbacklab.com/2011_website_SILVERBACK/web_gallery/images/storm2.jpg
  5. Pics like these make me wanna jump on a bike ASAP: http://www.yourefatbecauseyourestupid.com/wordpress/wp-content/themes/yrfat/images/image002.jpg
  6. No argument here They're also the best carbon wheels out there IMHO. I can buy almost ten sets of chinese carbon rims for the price of one Enve wheelset.
  7. **FAINTS** $2400 for a set of Enves? I'll rather opt for the Chinese cheapy upgrade option at roughly R3500 per set...
  8. Haha! Yep, indeed. I'll finally be rid of the dreaded Crests! Can't wait
  9. Ordered two more sets of carbon rims on Tuesday. Tubeless-ready, 30mm outer width, 32h, 3k weave, glossy, 390g +/- 10g, $165. (Link) They'll be just like the ones on my Tallboy, just 3k instead of 12k: The new rims will replace the Crests on our two Storms. Hopefully they'll be just as nice as the first set! I plan on doing a review on these rims once we've had some saddle-time with all three sets. But for now, we wait. These rims are proving so popular that the lead time is now a whopping 15 days. Add shipping and customs delays and, well, they probably won't get to me before the new year...
  10. Shame on you for neglecting a bike like this! It should definitely go to a better home - like mine! Hey, I've actually seen you on that bike, just didn't know it. I nearly took out Garden Pavillion's fence with my car, 'cause we don't see many Niners in Potch.
  11. Hijack! What is it and do you want to sell?
  12. I pay for international work travel with my own credit card and then claim back from my employer - that does wonders for ebucks earnings too!
  13. Current selection is limited, but hopefully they will do well and expand rapidly E-bucks, yayyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!
  14. I have to agree. But don't worry Bianchisti, all is not lost, I'll give you R50 for that useless chainset
  15. Any person willing to risk death for that has bigger things to worry about than disqualification - like having no brain..for instance or suicidal tendancies...
  16. You can always cut them from a tube. Many people buy their tubeless valves like that because you can buy tubes cheaper than valves - go figure, eh?
  17. Everyone has gone tubeless?
  18. There is no substitute for a test-ride, for sure. If only Silverback would get it together and release them already! Glad I'm not the only one who finds their info confusing. It appears as though they didn't even measure the two the same way (Sprada top tube measured as horizontal). There seems to be mistakes in the charts too: how on earth can the Storm have a BB height of 55mm??? Would it kill them to add stand-over height?!
  19. These guys make a niner small enough: http://www.santacruzbicycles.com/superlight29/ "The big wheel Superlight is also available in a small size with the lowest standover in this class of bike."
  20. Want as jy nie moeilik is nie, is jy maklik!
  21. Hi guys, A friend of mine is considering adding a duallie to the stable. Currently riding a medium 2012 Silverback Storm, 1.72m tall, wants to pre-order a Silverback Sprada 1. Now the problem with a pre-order is that you can't try the bike out first. One would think that if a person rides a medium 29er hardtail, a 29er duallie of the same brand would also be the right size. BUT, I had a look at the Silverback website and it would seem that the Sprada is bigger - am I mistaken? And what would you guys advise: small or medium?
  22. That is sooo pretty
