  1. I was told to change mine the other day because my I was battling to change gear and getting some chainsuck. The LBS tech said my "ramps" were worn on the chain rings. The teeth were pretty worn on all three chain rings anyway, so used the opportunity to upgrade. But I wondered to myself.... ramps ??
  2. I am looking for some cheap slicks for the 94.7 as well. Mind telling us where you can get at that price ?
  3. Those 'nurses' at the end of the Golovane were great but they were handing out the foulest concoction I have ever drunk at race end. All I wanted was a cold beer or perhaps a powerade. The idea of a kiddies race before the main one was great though. At least it wasnt a them or me choice like it normally is. that alone will keep me coming back until my kids graduate to the longer race. So all in all i am still a roag fan.
  4. Interesting reading. I would pretty much presume that South africa is a leader in the tracking device stakes. You could probably buy a unit and leave it in your saddle bag. To me the problem is always going to be keeping any unit charged up, you would need to remember to leave your bike plugged in to a charger.
  5. Sporties, sent my details pm last week, couple hours after your first post. did you get it ?
  6. Well represented I thought. The 'test track' was nicely selected as well , I hadnt realized they would let you really give the bikes such a lengthy test ride. A mate of mine who was about to buy brand x went a rode a selection of different bikes He told me this morning he now has 4 different bikes he was trying to decide between.
  7. Definately gonna be there. Just have to get kids soccer practice and one party out the way first. So at lunchtime if any of you see a harassed looking dad trying out bikes with two kids in tow, then that will be me.
  8. http://www.gibagorge.co.za/?p=1489 Giba still have it listed for this Sat. When: Saturday 23 May Time: 9am till 5pm Where: Giba Gorge Cost: R45 per person (includes a t-shirt and a copy of the latest magazine) Bring: Your shoes, pedals and helmet
  9. Strange. This is quite an about face by Remos management. They are normally very cyclist friendly. I go to Remos after my Caneride most weekends. We dont want to wreck their furniture so we normally take our own towels to sit on or Remos whip out a Cyclelab towel if you forget to bring one. Maybe managment have forgotten that the sweaty MTB cyclist on the weekend is also the one bringing his corporate clients for a lunch meal during the week. Ah well, guess I will be doing my after ride brekkers and corporate meals elsewhere in future.
  10. and perhaps a price range...?
  11. I was planning to go, but I was under the impression most manufacturers were bringing a range . ie. from the budget specials through to the R100k monsters. anybody know ?
  12. I like the idea. I struggle to find my way around giba so keen to learn new tracks and routes. But will probably be near the back with bob though... :-)
  13. hmm... I wonder who was the Mavericks guy who drove out in a huff at the Juicy Lucy classic because there was a delay in starting the race ? (delay caused by ROAG handing out free timing chips to every competitor, theirs to keep and use for timing at every roag organized race .) Dude, who ever you and your buddy were, bad form I thought. ( the comments around me told me most others thought the same) Nobody else was unduly stressed. Wouldnt have been fun for the stragglers if they had started the race with guys still trying to get their timing chips loaded and sorted. GMan1834, personally i still believe its best to belong to a cycling/mtb club. let roag organize the races and let clubs do their thing.
  14. Cyclelab in Durban North had Tread in stock. You just have to hunt a bit as they clearly dont believe in displaying it on the mags shelf. When I bought mine late last week it was lying still packed in a bundle on the floor.... Actually I think I must mention that on the Tread thread seeing as Cyclelab had taken a full page ad in Tread.
  15. Melvilles dont hire unfortunately. As already mentioned on this thread they suggested asking Greg at Cyclesphere or if you are riding at Giba then hire there. ... and if you are visiting and havent ridden at Giba then I suggest you do :-)
  16. Its possible the cleats were set too tight as well by the fitment guys, set them as loose as you can maybe to start with so you can get used to the clip in clip out action. once you have it mastered it then tighen them up just a tad so they hold your foot in properly.
  17. one thought : Its possible the 'thehubsa.co.za' domain has been banned by your isp as a spammer. Check with them and if possible notify them to place the domain on your 'friendly domain' list. That way they will never block mail from the hub to you. The same applies if its a work email you use to receive hub mail. notify your Exchange guys and ask them to do the same.
  18. Melville Cycles at Gateway perhaps ? I am on my way there a little later for the Tour de Durban MTB course talk. I will ask them and report back.
  19. Amazing what happens behind the scenes. I am a (Common or Garden variety) Mavericks member and have also joined ROAG. Makes life easier at the races if you join ROAG but Mavericks give me the %disc. club kit, club rides ,weekly newletter, magazine subs etc. I certainly wouldnt dump my club because of the new Race organizors group, I am a little uncertain why its seen as a threat, I know you can join csa via them, but thats about all I can think of.
  20. Are you ser ii uss ? I havent seen a single negative thing about ROAG. Do you have inside info you want to share with us ?
  21. R7095 per team.... sigh......
  22. Apart from normal entry fees no extra charge. Make sure to take your CSA number and ROAG number with you. Give them the number they punch it in and issue you with a racing board. no timing chip as such. Race results were up the next day on the web.
  23. I did the Cumberland Classic on the weekend. There were a bunch of ROAG guys all dashing around at speed making sure everything went off smoothly. I was helluva impressed with them.
  24. It works both ways. I have been suspicious of posts where somebody puts something up for sale and 3 minutes later somebody else (with a suspiciously low post count) says "Gee bru thats an amzing product at an amazing price I would buy it now if I needed one!!!!!" I reckon the savvy buyer takes both the negative and positive posts with a pinch of salt and does his own research..
