  1. Karma, any ideas where I can buy those clamps? besides for R150 a pop from CRC. At that price I can almost buy a new set of X7's that include the clamp I read the entire thread, but didn't really find any local options...
  2. I didn't escalate it... I also didn't think R100 on a R2000 item (plus about R1000 extras) would be too difficult for them to manage... it was
  3. Thanks everyone... looks like new brakes it is... now to get around the whole matchmaker problem...
  4. I was just there, after the salesman point blank refused to work out a "cash price" for me and bragged about their price being the best in the market, I corrected him saying that another place was at least R100 cheaper... He said "If you want to go somewhere else for R100, then go for it". I dont even know why I bother with them anymore...
  5. If I had to switch over to shimano brakes, would I be able to keep my Avid rotors for the time being? The current avids are 170 front and 160 rear.
  6. I was hoping for better news... But thanks to everyone for replying...
  7. Hi All, I recently bought a bike that came with Elixir 3's. The brakes have been bothering me since the first ride I had with them. My problem is that they dont have as good a "feel" as my previous bikes brakes had (Shimano M446). When I start pressing the lever, I can feel where the pads engage, but after that, it goes a bit "mushy". To add to this, I'm unable to feel when the lever is at maximum travel / maximum brake strength. It feels like if I had to pull hard enough, the levers would hit the grips, in fact, they're pretty close at the moment. Yesterday, at my lbs, I tested the brakes I had on my previous bike again, and it was just as I remembered. I can clearly feel when the pads engage, the lever travel get stiffer and stiffer for a shortish travel, until it finally hits a very obvious stopping point. So my question is, do my brakes just need to be bled? do avids just suck and I should buy something else? or is it just the way things are and I should get used to them? Thanks... Craig
  8. how long does it usually take for a board to be ready for collection? Is there anything I can do to speed up the process?... I'm not totally sure whats involved behind the scenes though...
  9. Well, I'm going out soon to test if they'll let me ride with just the proof of payment... wish me luck. Will report back...
  10. Also looking for the 2013 option
  11. Yeah, I joined for 2012, R200 which I will easily make up in rides... I was waiting for 2013 as well...
  12. sweet, thanks ...why'd you have to mention the snakes
  13. Ok, so I have been going out to the tygerberg trails quite a lot on my time off.. So much so that I decided to join the club. I was just wondering if I have to wait for my membership to be processed and my board collected before I can go ride? Would I maybe be able to print the order invoice/receipt and use that in the mean time, as a proof of membership? If not, how long would it take for the membership to be processed? I would hate to only receive it once my holiday is over...
  14. Cant wait for this week end ... and my up coming holiday
  15. An update for anyone that's interested. It turns out the fork was busted, just collected the bike from the shop this evening (fork was sent to fox to repair) and I can now clearly feel the difference between the settings... particularly between climb and descend. (Heavily impressed with Olympic Cycles for sorting it out so quickly) As for the back, it was a setup error, just too little pressure, after pumping it up its working perfectly
  16. UnfortunateIy, I have to fully agree with this. I bought my first bike from them, plus a couple of extras over the next few months... and every time I got the same kinda "rushed/unhelpful" service. I eventually went to another shop when I was looking for a new bike, the sales guy talked to me for ages, answering questions, giving me new information, really discussing my options etc.. completely ignoring his colleagues that were trying to get his attention... I bought the bike from him... he also offered a substantial discount....
  17. Looks like some others have had similar issues with CTD forks. http://forums.mtbr.com/shocks-suspension/2013-fox-f29-120mm-ctd-evolution-series-ctd-damper-issue-806075.html
  18. Hi guys, I'm a little dissapointed/confused. I bought a trance x1 (as discussed in my other thread) over the week end and went for my first ride on it. After playing around a bit, I couldn't notice even the slightest difference between the CTD settings on both the fork and the rear shock. At the time I thought I was just missing something, I mean how could both be faulty, on the same bike... I finally got time to do a thorough test tonight and it seems I was right. I basically measured sag across the three settings, as well as doing squish/bounce action to get as much travel as I could out of the suspension with my body weight. Here is the travel I measured (in millimeters) Front Sag - C:8; T:8; D:8 Bounce - C:75; T:80; D:84 Rear Sag - C:11; T:14; D:15 Bounce - C:40; T:43; D:43 So, did I just buy a brand new bike, with both the front and rear suspension not functioning as it should? or is there something else I can try, or something I'm not thinking of here? I am supposed to see a noticeable difference in the three settings right? Thanks for any help
  19. You guys are making me a bit nervous now with all this talk of snakes... I'll give it a go and let you know if I see any I'm planning on joining Tygerberg soon, I was going to join at the beginning of the year, but you know how it goes
  20. Sweet, thanks Do you know what the "cutoff" time is, before it officially becomes a night ride?
  21. Hey guys, Was just wondering if places like Meerendal are open for cycling on week days? Is the cost the same as on week ends (R30)? Is it open at any time of the day?... I saw another thread about them only allowing nights rides on a certain day, maybe it was an old thread and lastly, do any of you go ride there during the week? do you reckon its safe to go alone? Thanks Craig
  22. Thanks everyone, do you think the reign will be a better fit for me than the trance? Looks like the reign is more of a downhill/aggresive/jumps/drops kinda bike?
  23. Thank you to everyone Seems like there aren't any major disagreements and some of you are even confirming what I have read for myself about the bike over the last few days... That the trance is a very versatile bike, that it does almost as good a job as the anthem in most areas and out performs it in others... Would this be fair to say?
  24. Hey All, I'm looking to sell my current hard tail, and switch over to a FS bike. From reading around it seems that a Giant Trance X1 29er would be a good buy for me, any thoughts on this bike? Any other options I should consider? I'm not into any serious racing or anything like that, but I would like to enter some stuff in the future just for fun. but for now, I'll just be going out to places like Meerendal/Contermans/Magic Forrest on the week ends (maybe weekdays as well soon) and have fun/enjoy the ride/get fit/go fast . Appreciate any input... Thanks Craig
