  1. I spoke to a wheel builder, he basically said that these wheels are not strong enough... oh no I kinda thought the same... thinking of selling and buying something else.... ?
  2. Lol... very kind of you.
  3. Thanks Iron, I will give it a try. I dont really think the shop I bought them from have the skills to do this job properly. I will have to take in in else where.
  4. Agreed, it does not really sound like it could be the skewer. As I flex the wheel I can hear tons of little creaks. It its extremely annoying when doing a long, slow and bendy climb, these wheels creaking and crackling under me. And the buckling of the wheel? I'm still wondering if these wheels aren't meant for really light riding. I dont want to waste too much time hassling with these wheels if they're going to keep going out of shape Anyone have any opinions?
  5. Hi Guys, So I have had a set of American Classic Race wheels for about two months now. When I bought the set everything was fine. But after a few rides they started getting noisy, making tiny creaking/cracking sounds as the wheel rolls, I can reproduce this sound by flexing the wheel side to side with my hands. I eventually took my bike in for a service, where the wheels were tensioned and the noises stopped. Two or three rides in, the wheels are slowly starting to creak again and its getting worse with every ride. I had a look last night and my back wheel is now buckled as well. What is more than likely causing this? Am I too heavy for these wheels? I'm +- 90kg with cycle gear on and the wheels have a rider weight limit of 95kg. Could taking it in to the right shop to get tensioned make a difference? The last guy to tension them made a comment regarding them having alu nipples, could brass nipples change anything?
  6. mmm... maybe I should give it a try
  7. Hehe, I was looking at these at tekkie town the other day. How stiff is the sole on this shoe? I thought I would get nailed with import duties... did you pay any duties?
  8. I have tried CityRock (Mountain Mail Order), The Bike Shed and DialdBikes... The only thing I can find are impacts in a 9. eddy.. What model did you buy? size?
  9. Hi All, I have just recently got some flat pedals to try out (I went straight for SPD when I got my first bike), but I cant seem to find any shoes that work well... At least all the ones I own don't work well. I have been trying to get hold of some Fivetens (apparently they're the best) but no one in SA seems to have stock, at least not the places I have tried. I'm looking for freeriders, not impacts, any ideas where I can try? Other than that, what are alternatives that might be available in SA? What are you using?
  10. The biggest problems are that cyclists pretty much travel at the opposite speed as the traffic, when cars are able to go fast, a cyclist is way too slow, when cars are stuck in traffic, cyclists are speeding past. This causes cyclists to not form part of the natural flow on the roads... If cyclists just road as if cars always had right of way (just like you would if you were walking), there would be far less problems. Cyclists are just too fast and small (i.e. not visible enough) to be kept track of when driving.
  11. Are either of you perhaps in cape town? if so, which scrap yard did you contact? How does the towbar attach to the car? does it come from below the bumper? or will a hole have to be cut? Thanks either way guys, sounds like a really good idea
  12. Its a 2001 Astra. I will phone around to a couple of places to try and get the best deal. Anyone have any recommendations?
  13. Thank you, this part really puts my mind at ease. I never really thought about it like this So it seems all should be well, as long as I get the towbar properly installed to the chassis. Was on the phone with supa quick, R3600 installed... going to try a few more places tomorrow...
  14. Ok, thanks guys, seems like the guy was just trying to rip me off. He made it sound like there is no way I should get one of the "weaker" tow bars, he didn't even ask what kind of rack I had, how many bikes, total weight, or anything like that. eish... Anyways, most of the time it will be just the one bike... well, thats what I planning on anyways Thanks again everyone
  15. Hey all, I was at a tow bar place a while ago, and they said that bike racks put way more strain on a tow bar than towing a trailer, therefore I HAVE to install a high strength, top of the range tow bar. Is this information correct? I have an oldish car that I would like to put a tow bar on to use with a bike rack, but at the price they wanted to charge, its almost 30% of the value of the car... doesn't seem worth it. So what has been your experience? will any tow bar do? or do you have to get something really strong? was the company that told me this just trying to take me for a ride? Eish...
  16. I have one and I'm loving it. Although I had to drop the Avids that came with it, they were crap. Other than that its been great
  17. Thanks for all the responses guys/girls Ratty, could you provide some more info on the slow coach rides? I have looked on the facebook page and cant really find much? Off to google some more....
  18. Hey Enigma, I know this is probably waaay too short notice, but there are three of us heading up to meerendal for a slow and easy ride this morning if you would like to join (It was a very last minute thing) Otherwise we should definitely make a plan some other time
  19. Hi All, My girlfriend is quite keen to start cycling a bit more, so I thought I would ask if anyone here knows about any relaxed/slow/unfit group rides that happen in Cape Town that she could join? (northern suburbs, we are in Edgemead). I remember seeing such a group doing their thing around Meerendal ages ago, which would be perfect, but I haven't seen them in a while... Anyways, hopefully someone here knows Thanks
  20. I breathed one in this morning... did not like Ah, so a trip to Jonkers it is then
  21. Hey all, Was at hoogekraal this morning having a chat with three guys I met at the parking (I wonder if any of you are here...). I have never been to Jonkershoek, but they said the single track there is longer and maybe even a little funnerer than hoogekraal. What do you guys think? I'm having tons of fun at hoogekraal, if Jonkerhoek is anything like it, then I must definitely make the trip and go check it out... Which do you prefer?
  22. The owner has read many posts here on the hub where customers are complaining about many of the same types of things. He even responded to many of the complaints, which was nice, it was the reason that I decided to head over there yesterday and give them another try... But anyways, they should have good service to begin with. Some other shops get it right.
  23. I cant get to that link - it returns a 403 - forbidden...
  24. Thanks Karma... I'll start phoning around for this tomorrow. Anyone know wheres the best place to pick up some shimano brakes... easybike?
