  1. Hope he has a great race, but everyone unfortunately is in the hands of JW I think... pretty much hoping he strikes out. Scary to think his winning time last year was nearly 1.5 hours quicker than Ryans winning time in 2017... in elite circles that's massive. Will try remember to follow the coverage online if the stars align
  2. Some good discounts on the Salomon race hydration vests among other items... https://salomonsports.co.za/collections/less50
  3. No doubt an amazing scene, but also an entirely different animal.
  4. You'll find any angle to bring in your diet Odinson
  5. Anti-doping is the illusion of clean sport. Very sad, but true. Heard stories of the Chinese athletes being genetically boosted long gone... I'm just gonna stick my head back in the sand though and enjoy the spectacle
  6. Which is probably my biggest worry when one looks at very prominent running clubs and their management. The cycle is hard to break
  7. Agreed People who were tested 50+ times a year were doping and never got caught... that's the unfortunate reality. It's near impossible to catch someone who is say micro-dosing on epo, or who has a team doctor keeping them within limits of a blood passport ping at all times, so as long as the money and prestige makes it worth it, you'll have cheats, and we can all guess til we're blue in the face as to who they may or may not be. JW could we be a doper, the Comrades winners could be dopers... but nobody knows. It's all just speculation until you find that runner his hand in the cookie jar.
  8. Oceans is awesome, but it's not Comrades. It's far too sensible...
  9. Definitely plenty prettier races, tougher races etc out there, that's not really what Comrades is about. If I think about it, probably the no.1 reason to run Comrades is that experience of doing something this hard with so many people along for the journey... All shapes, all sizes, all different backgrounds, all on the same team - all fighting that brutal route and the endless demons it throws at you as you run together dreaming of that finish line. Yes folks, the FOMO is real
  10. It is up online... still in production though, so will only start getting sent out around the 28th of this month http://weardirect.co.za/shop/running/vizi-ultra-longsleeve-shirt-men/
  11. I love Comrades because it's the cornerstone of the running culture in this country... we have endless races and options every weekend because people need events to prep for it. Every sport even remotely linked to running can give thanks to this event for endlessly stimulating the market and making running so easily accessible and variable in this Country. And it is a big deal, it is historical, it is incredibly unique. That's without even getting into how special the actual day is for every person that takes on the journey between Durban and PMB... this mass participation sufferfest that tests everyone and unites everyone... it's a thing of beauty in my books. I also certainly don't subscribe to the notion that you're not a runner if you haven't done it, it's a big distraction for more serious runners and a huge chunk of a season out the way. So you have to way up your battles. I will though tell you, you are missing out on something special, just like I know I am missing out on something in not yet doing 100 milers or Epic trail runs, or adventure racing, or the Munga etc. There is so much out there, and it all grows us and nurtures the soul. We all have different goals and capabilities, do whatever makes you happy - because that at the end of the day is all that matters.
  12. Could of sold a couple hundred of these at the expo if we had sufficient stock... hindsight is a lovely thing. I do enjoy the slogan and it clearly resonates with people.
  13. Why was she in G? That's a seriously impressive run. Also, she's South African but not linked to a club, I didn't think that was allowed...
  14. Anybody got some good lower body workout plans for gym? Decided I'm going to do a session of strengthening one day a week in the gym. That coupled with a weekly pilates class I am hoping is going to make me a bit more bullet proof when it comes to my running injuries...
  15. I might be wrong, but I think they are the Versus popcorn socks...
  16. Ferret and Barry at Alverstone... Life goal - to look this comfy at 40km's into the up run
  17. Strongs to you Barry, no doubt it's a hard hit to take - but we all know you'll be back next year to kick it's butt
  18. Well done to all the Comrades runners - some great times out there! After seconding this year, I'm extra motivated to get my ass in gear and my back sorted so I don't have to do that again... jeepers seconding is unpleasant work at times. That traffic is soul destroying, not to mention the complete disregard for any form of human decency shown by most of my fellow seconds. It's a good thing I don't own a gun. Wifey got home in her rock solid way with ten minutes still on the clock. Was a little tight at one point, but she always just keeps chugging on. Proud of her. She's of course never running again... Got a few pics of some of our thread stars I'll post a little later
  19. Not a lot of people as comfy in the hurt box as her... incredible diverse athlete. Wonder if she's got any long term running aspirations? Was this maybe a Munga training run?
  20. I saw Camille at 40kms... she looked shattered already. Incredible run from Gerda, can’t wait to see what time she might do next year
  21. Merchandise by Mizuno not the best, but that's good for our Anatomic stand Been good so far for us, and as a bonus I picked up some Pegasus for R1399 (and I'll get a further 25% off through Vitality) at Totalsports. Tired of being fleeced by Asics The Notties beers also taste as good as ever
  22. https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/opinionista/2019-06-04-of-comrades-and-the-comrades/ Another good read
  23. Make that 45% didn't finish... was not pretty 18578 starters 10232 finishers
  24. It was nearly 30% of the field I think? That hot wind Berg wind was something I would be pretty happy never to experience again
