  1. There is talk Real will even let him go on a free... He's on insane wages.
  2. 43minutes behind the winning time and 20 minutes behind the winning lady https://tom.finishtime.co.za/myresults.aspx?CId=20024&RId=50&EId=1&AId=576303
  3. You're quite correct of course. We do often forget 'they' are all just people at the end of the day... and often these people's persona's are what make them exceptional athletes at the same time. In hindsight he himself might even have said it better, but like you say, he's a guy that charges in and does things... not a lot of second guessing and caution.
  4. He ran Two Oceans... he's nowhere near the speed of the top road guys
  5. Professional endurance athletes? It's hard not to be skeptical... you'd have to be living under a rock to think anything otherwise. Like most sports, the top athletes become the coaches and the cycle continues... I'm sure we have our very own Salazars here in SA. It is what it is, and I'm not sure how we ever get around it. I'd not trust Jim Walmsley with a long stick either - all athletes are 'anti-doping' until they get caught... of course then it's always someone elses fault. One thing I will also say, I have a 100 times more respect for someone like Camille who came to Comrades and let her legs do the talking... JM can talk all he wants, but there are no controls in trail running either, so he can also just jog off.
  6. PSG and City just get Qatar pals to pay 1000% of the going rate for naming rights and voilah... Billion dollars in the bank over the 5 years and the clubs bottom line becomes so much more sustainable
  7. Yip, they broke protocol in 29 signings of under 18's They were in FFP poo a couple years back though, but also got away in the end if I recall... no doubt another oily Eufa handshake
  8. I'm glad we have the FFP rules, but I am starting to worry how it is being enforced... it's all good going after City and Chelsea, but how did PSG get out of jail? Relatively small club who broke the world transfer record twice in one transfer window... 6 years ago they weren't even in the top 20 richest clubs in the world. Now they can apparently afford to spend 400 million on three players? Eufa as always, very selective about how they approach things...
  9. Really not necessary pal... if you don't have something nice to say, rather don't say anything. I'm not the biggest fan of the Italian league, generally just find it too slow to enjoy, but players like De Rossi, Totti etc transcend the league and could probably have graced any team in world football. This is a football thread and they definitely tick that box.
  10. Agreed... there is a big clear out needed, but it doesn't look like they have a plan or the structures in place to recruit players correctly. And who's going to be calling the shots... will they let Ole spend hundreds of millions? The club as a whole is lacking identity and direction, going to take some strong personalities and some time to right things I reckon.
  11. Other transfer window thoughts... I can see Utd struggling to get the big names they want and need. The whole place is a mess, and there are just so many better options at the moment for the top players. Money is not the be all and end all of it. And even Utd don't print the stuff. Lots of expensive flops to ship on as well... Chelsea, well they can't sign anyone... so they'll pull back their dozens of loanees, but they're not going to replace Hazard who will be a big loss. Wonder if this episode will galvanize them like it did Spurs, or if they'll fall apart. I think Sarri was very keen to mold the squad a lot more. Arsenal... Europa league final will be pretty pivotal. They're already losing Ramsay, so no Champions League again would add to their struggles. Their defense in particular needs a lot of work... City need a tall striker I reckon... I could see Jesus leaving. And then probably need to replace Fernandinho... probably with Ndombele from Lyon who's a cracking defensive mid.
  12. So silly season already in full swing... What I suspect Spurs moves will look like: Sessegnon from Fulham... a bit raw, but full of potential, speed and he's English. Poch could do wonders with him. Andre Gomes from Barca (who was on loan at Everton) looks a good midfield option along with Tielemans from Monaco (also on loan at Leicester). Both sensibly priced, youngish and fit the Poch mould and would bolster a definite weakness in our current squad. If Eriksen leaves, as I suspect he will... I'd hope they go hard for Coutinho who seems available. Biggest challenge might well be his wages. Other good and probably more realistic options I reckon would be De Beek or Ziyech from Ajax or Maddison from Leicester. If we lose Alderweireld as expected, we'll definitely need to sign a couple CB's as Vertonghen is also getting into his twilight. De Ligt would obviously be the ideal option, but with his recent rise to fame I can see him heading to one of the biggest clubs on high wages. We do have good relations with Ajax, but money sadly generally talks We also still need a proper center forward to back up Kane and allow him some rest Lots to do... going to be a pivotal window.
  13. Great player... always used to sign him for my teams in Championship manager a decade plus back
  14. That equal share column is what really makes the prem different level to the rest... wish more leagues would adopt that policy.
  15. He's a bit out of your league I reckon
  16. Quite a cool read and a bit of food for thought... https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/how-mauricio-pochettino-and-tottenham-showed-a-transfer-obsessed-nation
  17. I'll be doing race backup on the day... I've always been so appreciative of my club guys out there supporting us on the day, so with my problems this year it's an easy option for me to give a little back. I'll be shedding a few tears when that cockeral crows, but just for slightly different reasons this year.
  18. You're not gonna get this grin off my face for a very very long time!
  19. Well played Liverpool! Crazy stuff And I even won a few bucks at 19/2
  20. I'd prefer Barca I reckon... and then Messi to pull a hammy in the warm-up First gotta get there though!
  21. Yip, he's honest too... he said straight up he botched up the strat for the Ajax game, but fixed it when Vertonghen came off. From there on it really was a very different game... Sonny hopefully gonna score some goals tomorrow And we'll be facing Liverpool in the final after Origi scores 6 goals in the last 10 minutes
  22. I can tell you the drop-off is likely fatigue... it's a common occurrence with Bielsa (and Poch) in the first season with the intense change in the players training regime. Luckily by the second/third season the players have adapted and their fitness actually has them finishing stronger than other teams... it's worth the wait
  23. You said Liverpool tossed it away earlier Tossed away is what Spurs did with their 3rd place... I was just illustrating that they didn't... it's been arm wrestled slowly away from them by an absolute juggernaut. And when I spoke of blinking, it was with regards to the run in, neither team has dropped a point in two months, playing twice a week often. It's been incredible and you have to feel for Liverpool... (but then you remember how over the top some of their fans can get, and you feel a little less sorry ) I am obviously a huge fan of Poch, and I also like that he is a good fit for Spurs. We do obviously need to spend some money now, and I think we will... I would expect at least 3 good recruits this window, all will likely be under 24 with potential, more than the finished article. And saying he would do better with big funds... you just never know. He's a coach as much as a manager, he likes to shape and mold players into the team style and format. At Spurs he fits, he's at home and the pressure for immediate results is less than at Utd or Real. Long may he stay
