  1. Mamil The expo is an integral part of the bike ride. The charities make tons of money from not only the entrance fees but from exhibitors who pay handsomely for the privilege of selling to a usually receptive audience. I'll make a suggestion to you. Don't enter the CTCT next year if you don't want to go through the commercial retail section. Then we won't have to read your half a dozen posts moaning about the expo.
  2. That is almost correct. If the U23 wins the day she takes both titles and prize money. If an Elite Lady wins then there are two winners allocated prize money. U23 money may be a Mandela knowing how PPA allocates funds.
  3. Late in attending to this thread. Just read the very sad news. I only knew Barry as Tumbleweed yet I welled up with tears reading that he was gone. Rest in Peace Barry.
  4. The same reason the PPA and CSA would reach agreement on sanctioning in the last week leading up to the event. Bunk up. Brothel? Or is it Piss up. Brewery?
  5. Hell, I might even take the not so smart phone along and stream the last 30 minutes or so. All depends if we can hit a data enabled zone around 8am. Imagine cruising Misty Cliffs watching the Elite Ladies attacking on Chappies and Suikerbossie. I'm really trying to find the positive of being the stoker on a racing tandem.
  6. Between two groups? This has never been tried? Last year the ladies hit the sprint with a bunch of tandems amongst them. Try that for a fun ride. It's really hard to read stuff when it is so poorly thought out and then actually posted as a serious post. Lucky you only have 2 cents as I'd hate to read your opinion on this if you had a whole rondt to spare. We'd probably have to call the honey sucker. Now I wonder why the mods had the temerity to remove one of your posts? Maybe the honey sucker was busy.
  7. Except the closet misogynists on the hub... Actually scrap closet.
  8. I remember that too. Jens the doper and the 1 hour record. I took 4 cases of frosties to W2W and not one hubber collected. And I don't drink so they were useless to me too.
  9. The men start at 6:15 some 34.2kms away. The Ladies start at 6:30 34.2kms in front of the men. At a 2:35 pace for the men (last year's winning time) meaning an average speed of 48 kph, the men will reach Glencairn at 6:58. With men at a 2:35 pace the Elite Women would have to ride at an average of slower than 33.7kph to be caught on the finishing straight. I think this is a huge change for the CTCT and will add to the event. I hear a rumour, early stages, of following what is happening in London and Geelong where the fun ride takes place for the amateurs in the morning and the pros start later and do a longer route and finish AFTER the fun ride component. How cool would it be to be able to ride AND watch the finish sprint.
  10. Yeah right. Like a 30 minute track stand? What tactics can you play out in a 75 odd km race? The men start at 6:15 some 34.2kms away. The Ladies start at 6:30 34.2kms in front of the men. At a 2:35 pace for the men (last year's winning time) meaning an average speed of 48 kph, the men will reach Glencairn at 6:58. Do you really think the men will catch the Elite Women for 28 minutes in the next 74.8km? With men at a 2:35 pace the Elite Women would have to ride at an average of slower than 33.7kph to be caught on the finishing straight. Not very likely, is it?
  11. Apart from being totally misogynist I'm sure you can work it out for yourself.
  12. Very good news for Women's cycling on the whole to have a stand alone race. The late notice is unfortunate but a start has to be made somewhere. Well done CSA and CTCT.
  13. Queues at 9:59 and 10:05, Hot day, not a breath of wind. Me last man after walking past the entrance 6 minutes earlier. Somewhere down the right there is an entrance.
  14. It's just you. I got 40 anniversary water bottle, a can of Pringles, a few Super C, Nivea roll on, Flugon, Iceman with Arnica, a mini track pump, an Elastoplast (just 1), toothpaste, a few vouchers and the ladies on the assos stand had a feel to see what size Kuku pouch I needed. And a nice little branded bag to take my stuff to the races. All in all worth the comrades marathon length walk to get to the back of the queue when I arrived at 10:30 and the gates were not open. Seriously, if I wanted to walk I wouldn't enter a bike race.
  15. Falke? I better go back as I missed them. Fox had some nice lumo yellow socks. But I nearly vommed when I realised I was holding 6" socks
  16. Today is not the day to be riding the route. The wind is unpleasant, why risk it? And as the rules are under threat of being irrelevant even rule 9 is overruled.
  17. A little cross wind action doesn't frighten these 55mm bad boys. Rule 5 and all that.
  18. Says he who is in a pen with 35 other bikes and a 6:25 roll. Hopefully the nervous 8:30 starters won't be queuing to get in at 5:30 when you arrive.
  19. Cool, I can sit on the back of the tandem and watch the front bunch. Then again why increase my pain by being forced to listen to a geriatric old man waffling on about stuff he forgot a decade or so ago. Why not use a new voice? Good luck to the aerial drones if the wind is like it is right now. They'll think they are filming Main Rd Muizenberg but it will actually be Kommetjie Rd over the hill.
  20. Medical. Not badly behaved. Too much metal to risk a fall of any sort. Alas.
  21. Really? As your argument is so weak your retort is to belittling me? Arse first? Clearly you have not read any of my posts on this subject on this thread except the one I responded to your "Test drive and you'll love it" post. Which is about as relevant as telling me to go to church regularly. I have consistently stated that trails use is up to the land owner's discretion. I have no interest in riding either a mountain bike nor a motorised mountain bike as I am banned from the trails. I do however have a brain and can use it to inform myself. As a matter of course I do not comment without understanding the topic at hand.
  22. It is irrelevant whether or not I ride one. That is not the debate. The debate is around access to the same areas motorbikes are banned but bicycles are allowed. Oh, and the stealing of strava KOMs.
