  1. if you use a spin bike with heavy fly wheel and good setup variability then a spin bike is better for training. dont buy cheap else you will waste your money. due to current circumstances i spent the last 8 week an average of 8 hours a week on a spin bike with sessions ranging from 1:30 to 3:30hrs (im still sane- but just). get yourself some good music and a mp3player of start watching series 24 season 1-8?, or smallville season 1-232(has superman flown yet??) anyway, if you plan on doing multi-day events then you have to spend more time on your bike and stationary bikes use should be limited

  11. depends what you train for and you fitness level when starting off.... stage racing you will nee alot of base miles and working it up progressively. single day events the base miles could be covered in around 4 weeks with another 3-4 for intensity and speed work. (this is for longer events 3-4 hours) if I train for a single event with my expected completion time around 3.5-4hours then your base miles should work progressively up to 4 hours... depending on my body condition when starting i will take every 3rd/4th day a rest day and then up the time ie. (2.5hrs, 2.5hrs, rest) - (3hrs,3hrs,rest) - (3.5hrs,3.5hrs,rest) - rest day - (3hrs, 3hrs, rest) - (3.5hrs,3.5hrs,rest) - (4hrs,4hrs,rest) - rest day after 4/5 weeks of this boring crap you move to power/intensity : this is race specific, little use in training 30min steady climbing all the time if the biggest climb is 300m - this is where you teach your body to take the kind of abuse you expect in the race no substitute for a sport scientist - they know what signs to look for when your body react/complain
  12. what is your BMI ? ( i know it is only a guide)
  13. please girls just eat enough of what ever you decide to eat - nothing as volatile as a hungry woman (not even lithium)
  14. bos, the gamatte and tik-koppe will take your bike...
  15. MTB climbing is quite different, you still get sh!t tired, but more often then not you sit when climbing on a mtb. Off road the terrain (traction) is a big issue when climbing and you need the weight on the back wheel with a smooth pedal stroke. If your focus is on mtb, spend more time sitting when climbing to develop the muscles but standing gets important when doing long rides and improve stability.
  16. just remember, there is a big difference between being TRAINED and being FIT
  17. the FIFA world cup did good for marketing SA and it is well thought out of CSA (and sponsors) to anounce it now. btw. SA dont need a TDF, the TDF need more saffas. wonder when more of your top mtb'ers/cyclist will start with structured doping programs and join some international pro teams. hehe (im flame proof)
  18. try not to stop, rather drop your pace going up. your heart must learn to support you muscles and then recover afterwards while you keep moving. this will be valueble as you get stronger and race?
  19. thats it.... now the south-african spirit is coming through...just add a knopkierrie and some burning tyres along the road and we're on
  20. congrats! i like that rear tyre....if its the kenda karma with that protection strip on the side. light and good for rear traction.
  21. no dude this is south africa, we p!ss in the waterbottles or steal the team vans
  22. yes, we need to support our sponsors in cycling... i recently changed to Myway and MTN, works me out about R70 a month more, but at least the +-R4200 is going to the guys supporting my sport
