  1. To be honest thats just a typical "bicycling" article! Whats the differance between a "runners diet", "a cyclists diet" an "ice hockey diet", a "swimmers diet" or a "regular diet",........... I would really like to know.? All diets have one aim, to reduce weight (body mass), what makes a "cyclists" diet unique to any other active persons diet.? I am not trying to be confrontational cbrundson, dont get me wrong, thats not my aim at all, I understand you posted it purely for information, I just loose patience with this "tabloid cr*p". Work out your daily energy expenditure, and take in less than you expend - its that simple. If you dont know your daily expenditure, just get up from each meal "a tad hungry" - I dont mean starving, just feel that maybe you could have enjoyed another slice of roast, or another potatoe, basically, just keep your body "slightly" in deficit - its not rocket science, its just some people like to make it rocket science - theres a differance.!!
  2. This whole diet thing is just a load of codswallop. Really, it was devised to save fat americans who seldom walk further than the fridge to the sofa, eat only potatoe crisps and do no excercise at all from daily heart attacks. Anyway, what is good health? Its very difficult to define, and is usually associated with longevity, BUT the two are not synonymous and never have been. The average health of the worlds population has never been better, yet if you believe the tabloids, we eat worse now than ever before.!! The fact is, catch phrases and jingles with an emotional ring like "toxic" or organic health foods, or trans fats are forced down our throats at every turn, when in reality, we can eat anything, prepared in any manner in moderation and still be healthy and fit. The problem arises when we deviate from the term moderation. Just like obesity arises when energy intake exceeds expenditure, so weight loss will occur in the opposite scenario - the fact is you could eat a diet of only chocolate and cream buns and still loose weight, or a diet of cabbage and lentils and still increase weight. I eat anything and everything, I enjoy a beer or two fairly often and drink a glass of red wine daily - I am fit and healthy, I regularly run marathons and ultras, I race well in the season and I have no cholesterol or sugar issues, my weight is well within stats for my age and height and my cardiologist says my heart is "pikfyn". Go figure.!!
  3. There always appears to be this attitude of "unless you are prepared to do it, shut up" which is rather an arrogant and ignorant way to try and dismiss a subject. I am not interested in doing any work for the CSA, IN ADDITION to my already busy schedule, as, I am quite sure no CSA official is to interested in doing my work, IN ADDITION to there busy schedule. It works both ways, dont ever forget that. So, simply put, there is absolutely no relevance in this dismissive type of statement. When you work in the public eye, (and this is a position YOU ACCEPT - last time I looked nobody held a gun to Mr Lemmers or anyones head and said YOU WILL WORK HERE) - expect to be both criticised and praised in the public eye, expect your life and your decisions to be scrutinised, disected and discussed in the public eye - sorry for you, but, this is the nature of the beast. In my opinion, there are lots of friends here who will defend someone just because they know him / her, irrespective of the soundness of the decisions or the quality of the work - sounds a bit like the old government hey.! porky2009-04-20 09:33:48
  4. Get real, not only dos a 9-5 have better payment terms for most, (Hmmm 900 odd in the pro peleton - theres more CAs in Sandton alone than that) but it also has better future terms, better promotion terms, better long term career terms and you will probably still be able to work at your career when you are 60. porky2009-04-18 11:22:24
  5. Yah, and now Astana is also experiencing issues with finance. I also think its no longer interesting for young riders to become professional, theres other sports with better payment terms and a more secure future.
  6. One-on-one communications is key in my business' date=' much better than using e-mails, hence the reason why people are in their offices. [/quote'] Quite correct. I contract to many of the very big construction companies, if you want to meet with senior management, you go to his office, he is there, not in a sunny coffee shop. ..............and another point, I recieved an e-mail from one of the big construction companies before christmas to say - No manager may recieve any gifts and if you want to take them out for a meal / function it must be after hours or cleared first. In companies today, long gone are the heavy boozy corporate lunch appointments or running out of the office to drink coffee at the local shop and returning three hours later, todays managers in major corporate positions work in their office. Anyway, its all irrevelant to the post, CSA is a small operation and I imagine Mr Lemmer pretty much has "Carte Blanche" as to his work enviroment or attendance at the office, certainly it appears they dont mind his rather 70s looking style and appearance, something else which would never be condoned in corporate business today. .............but its usually a good idea to see what successfull companies ARE doing and copy them.
  7. Also don't understand this' date='they took samples of he's hair for DNA testing....the test came back negative. So how did he dodge that?? Get some implants done in the shower?? I do however agree the Lance versus France is getting a bit old but I think that is how he works...he needs to have the trolls in he's life![/quote'] There is fear you could inject a masking agent in that time. I seem to recall reading hair samples are only for FUTURE tests, to see if there are anomalities later, its not related to the immediate tests, so unless he gave hair samples before, there can be no match, however as these apparently were clean, they now have a standard for the future. Perhaps someone could confirm this, but I think its what I read.
  8. You are not supposed to be out of sight of the tester. This is to prevent the athlete from taking / doing something to possible dilute / difuse the test result. It wont wash anything off' date=' but he could have a blood transfusion or take some medication in the space of 20 minutes unsupervised. What everyone forgets is the tester gave LA permission to go and shower, its not like LA took the shower illegaly. [/quote'] Thats a bit mischievious and not totally true - its what LA and his publicity caravan has said. Neither the french doping agency or the tester has yet publicly made a statement referring to this matter last time I looked. So we have one side of the story, and everyone is saying its the fact - LA has the best publicity, spin doctoring team in the world.
  9. Sorry, I dont get involved in "protest rides" in any country.
  10. This whole "france v lance" thing is just a lot of poppycock cooked up years ago by LA s publicity team - personally I think if anyone buys into it, ...................I also have a very nice office block for sale on the Knysna heads, 24 storys high, each with a sea view..............................! The French are just doing their job, thats all, its not personal its business, and if LA dosnt like it, well dont go to France, simple.! This, "I am LA attitude", I can do what I like is infuriating to most, if I was in charge of French dope testing I would do the exact same thing, test, test, test, test, test, test, until he learns some humility and / or stays in Texas, where he can swan around and pretend to be president. porky2009-04-16 23:36:20
  11. I travel to Northern Italy often on business, its a big area you will need to be more specific on towns and cities you wish to attend. In my opinion, the cities are busy industrial areas, and not suited to recreational cycling, lots of folk do it I know but I think theres better, safer places to enjoy a bicycle ride - contary to popular belief and SC, Italy is NOT bicycle mad, roads are narrow and often quite busy, expect issues with trucks and motorists, just like here,............ if you really want to bicycle perhaps the organised tours are still your best option - I know they are expensive and supported mostly by fat Germans and Poms who take 8 hours to ride 20 kms, but they take you on safe roads, you visit most of the interesting sights and you dont get lost. In my opinion, hire a small car, eat ice cream and enjoy the night and cafe life - Northern Italy is one of the best vacation breaks you can do, maybe just forget the cycles.
  12. From what I can gather (and believe me' date=' you don't need to be a rocket scientist) Gracie has got a personal issue with Groot Lem. Gracie take your dirty laundry else where, or have the balls to contact Groot Lem directly and sort your gripe out with him. Not on a public forum!!. [/quote'] Her posts dont come across as a personal grudge to me. She made a point and posted an opinion - I dont read any personal issues into it.
  13. Its not only cyclists who are targeted, a running mate of mine jogged past a woman sitting in a car with the hood up, he stopped and asked if he could help, - while he was peering under the hood somebody jumped out the undergrowth and hit him on the side of the head with a brick. Stole his mobile phone and drove away with the woman. The police said he shouldnt have stopped.!
  14. Sounds to me, like a "solution" to a "non existant" problem. .............but dont worry, the yanks will be queing up to buy it.
  15. Ja they are not angels' date=' but they lovethe round wheels etc. so Unless you are willing to do the *** jobs shut up and let those that want to try at least get on with it. [/quote'] Why do you have to "LOVE" the sport to do a good job.? Personally, I would LOVE to be a marine zoologist, - but my day to day job is civil engineering - cant say I LOVE it, but I still do a damn fine job and no malls have collapsed yet.! I dont know the gentlemen concerned and I make no judgement on their abilities, but for me - I personally have not seen or experienced any benefit from their appointment at CSA, or my license funds, so, as far as I am concerned, I am no better off now than I was 5 years ago!. Perhaps the rank and file just need to shut up and pay up hey.? Odd, I though we moved out of that era in 94, maybe I was wrong.
  16. I seriously doubt the average cyclist would even overtrain, the amount of time we generally put in is never going to "overtrain us". He may get tired, but that dos not necessarily mean he is "overtrained". ................but if he is a serious competitor, I guess its possible, and all you can do is rest until you feel strong again - your body will tell you when.
  17. Hmm, thats no excuse, I agree with goofs. If it was just one or two people I could say "sure", but I also had to shout and perform to get my card and I am pretty sure there are lots of others as well.
  18. Ya' date=' wait till page three, then if it's not sold, it's open season... [/quote'] Ha,Ha, yup, agree. ............but to be honest ARK this is the internet, dont take it all too seriously.
