right u are Brian, but as more people get into this, suppliers and race organizers trying to milk us, the up side is new MTB venues popping up everywhere.

welcome Brian, this cycling thing is expensive! if the 11k shocked u get ready for many more. go for a 29er dont look at anything else at this stage. when u start racing and the etch to stage race comes get ready to sell a kidney.

its gonna be rocky, day 2 will be a 70km loop at VG never easy! followed by a 50km last day with lunch.

If u want something special, get a lynskey... For that type of money u gonna get better spec that what may come standard on some brands. I've seen dales for 50k with SLX/XT mix..don't understand how they get away with that.

Route 66 is rocky, the second day at VG is tough.. Done most of them last year, I think the Sani is the most rider friendly and will give u scare at just the right time.. It 280km the longest of the 3 day events, but very rideable. Also a good one to get out the way.

Guns don't kill people, people do! But adding more guns to the pot doesn't help. We need good education and job creation. Government should be looking at tax breaks for SME. Let them take ur bike, I have had 3 in the last year but life I only have one of.
