Got my first real bike on gumtree, Scott elite dual sus 29er. Went to LBS the bike was priced at 21k! The gumtree add was for 16k mailed the dude and made him a offer, he said no it was 8k! Watched the add for 2 more weeks mailed him again offered him 10k told him to take his time my offer stands for the week, this gave him another 7 days to try get his price, 4 days later he mailed me to collect the bike it was 7 months old he took a 11k hit on a 29er not including the upgrades he had done! 9 months later sold the same bike on the hub for 12k, at that time 2 more of the same bike were listed 1 at 18k, the second at 15k. Had guys lining up to buy mine sold in 1 day. I do find most prices on the hub are high, some guy even tried to get more than the listed price from me, needed the parts for a build.

Momsen local... dont think so! went to LBS and asked about getting a momsen the reply was they waiting for a shipment in from Taiwan!!! maybe designed local. has anyone here been to the SA Momsen factory were the make the frames and assemble?

Just get out there and ride don't let the minority of criminal element in the country tell u how to live. Most urban open MTB routes have a peak time, lets call it 8am winter and 7am summer ride in those times and u will e fine. Don't believe in guns as the stats prove u have a 60% chance of it being used against u. If u do get jacked let them have the bike, it's just a bike! in ur life if things go well u will own many...

had a scott 29er elite(full sus) for almost a year, do 3 rides a week never had a problem. have never pumped the rear shock or even oiled the pivot joints. was a good bike.

had to shaft the brakes this weekend after a drop, the guy behind me went over his bars, the guy behind him hit a tree....dont think they were keen on spotting myanus after that. I did chk if they were good and shouted sorry as I pulled away..

how about some common sense! dont ask for more than the bike sells for new...most guys on here know what they want and will google the crap out of it anyway. would also be nice if u know the groupie on the bike 9 out of 10 it just shimano or sram.

Hey was this on the 50km or 30km? Heard about some old guy being knocked off his bike on the 30km... Luckily I was on the 50km with the gentle oaks.

get what u saying here Patches but as the sport becomes popular u gonna get allot of guys on the trails that just wanna have a good time and dont wanna hammer the downhills. the fun in it for them is the 4,5 hours of suffering. I think the sani has become too big to find long stretchers of no riders. when I got to the finish on trail i got a tweet that "today there would be a rider every 50m from underburg to scottsburg".

if you wanna run ur best times and play race snake do the race, leave trail and adventure to the campers vans.

go 29er HT or dual sus, u can get some great deals on 26er seems the resale value has dropped on them something bad.
