  1. A friend of mine always says you can NEVER have enough money, travel or length. A true visionary.
  2. I saw a guy at the Fish River canoe marathon, running while shouting at his wife who was hanging on the back of their K2 while being dragged through mud on her stomach....HAHAHA it was pretty funny but a good example of what can happen if a. The stronger party doesn't realise he wasnt going to be on the podium either way, and stop blaming the slower rider for lack of pace, and b. Take it easy and remember why you got it in the first place. Guys often forget their other halves didnt grow up ramping their BMX's with their buddies from age 6. My wife got approximately 1 inch of air over an erosion furrow on her MTB the other day and was properly STOKED! Sometimes getting them stoked is more rewarding than just always doing it for yourself. (OK this thread is going dowhill from here...)

Thanks BG I need 400mm length, 31.6mm diameter
  4. Anyone got any thoughts on replacing it with a KCNC machined seat quick release? R190.00 at my LBS.

    Bent Seatpost

The Thomson post is going to set me back R780.00. Anyone got one lying around somewhere?

    Bent Seatpost

I would like to salvage the current one if possible, it is a very slight bend and want to know whether anyone has had one straightened and if it is possible. No bucks after buying new bike to buy bling bits!!!
  7. I have noticed a very slight bend in my Bontrager Race Light seatpost. It's on a TREK EX8 MTB, the seatpost has not been extended to anywhere near its' maximum. I think it took a knock when one of my feet came out / off the pedal when going over a jump and I landed with most of my weight on the seat. Anyway, is there any way that it could be straightened and does anyone have any recommendations?
  8. I like to drop my seat for downhill / all mountain sessions / playing / jumping so I would prefer not to replace it with a bolt.
  9. Anyone had any experience with a Bonty QR lever bending? I tightened mine using one bare hand and bent the thing nearly double last night. Two months old and has taken no knocks that could have weakened it to date. Can anyone suggest what to replace it with, or perhaps whether these would be under guarantee? It's on a two month old TREK.
  10. WOW cycleart does AWESOME work...seems like a lot of graft for min bucks!
  11. I am sure you could have it powdercoated for much less than that and it would be way more durable.
  12. It's probably best to take it to panelbeaters or someone that resprays cars to do it for you.
  13. Is it normal for a Fox suspension fork to have a slight layer of oil on the stanchions when compressed and extended? Same with the Fox RP2 rear shock...is this something that needs to be looked at or considered normal?
  14. Please accept my apologies then. How do you adjust the "reach" of the brake lever...with cable you simply adjust the barrel screw, what's the procedure with the hydraulics?
  15. I must admit I am not super impressed by their stopping power, the V-brakes on my XTC are def more deadly than the Juicy 5's, do they take a bit of time to settle?
  16. Sorry Rock that makes no sense, I think Racer X is on the money.
  17. What's the deal with the Avid Juicy 5's brake levers? I just got a set and they have a position which they can clip into when you pull them away from the handlebars...what's that used for? I can only assume its to prevent you from accidentally pulling the lever when you dont have the wheels in. Only the one has it...front brake...the other not?
  18. What mileage should you be getting on a half-decent chain if the bikes only used for MTBing?
  19. I bit the bullet and got the EX8 in the end...wife not impressed wth cash outlay...she'll get over it!!! This bike is without a shadow of a doubt the nicest thing I've ever bought myself....just about to go for the virgin ride in Eden...can't wait!! PS. Have I told you lately I love mountainbiking?
  20. Demo bikes...a 2008 model Trek Fuel EX7 vs a Fuel EX8. OK maybe the shock wasnt the only difference, the 8 also has mostly LX groupo and Bontrager Race wheels, the 7 has Bontrager Select wheels and mostly Deore bits and pieces. The frame and rear shock is the same. You can check the post on Tech "Trek Fuel Ex7 vs 8", there's links to both bikes there and they look great. Price difference R3700.00. I think its worth it but it took a while to convince myself. Any thoughts?
  21. http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/2008/mountain_full_suspension/fuel_ex/fuelex8/ http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/2008/mountain_full_suspension/fuel_ex/fuelex7/ I have to make a decision between these two bikes. Please take a look at the specs on the links and let me know whether you think paying 3K more for the EX8 (15k) than the EX7 (12K) (both used but in great condition) is worth the extra cost? I refer especially to the Forks, shifters and wheels... Thanks in advance for the input.
  22. What would the conversion entail and benefits be? Getting a bike (hopefully today!!!) with a Recon 351 on it.
