  1. Nothing worse than getting to some lekker singletrack after a leg breaking climb and then having to stop start your way down it due to people walking obstacles. I guess that happens when you have experience but not fitness....slow up....fast down!!! keep riding.
  2. I think we saw the same thing with Surski paddling when it first became popular around 8 years ago...lead times for new boats were 10 weeks and record numbers of entrants at Sunday dices. A few years down the line, everyone has their own riding buddies, they know where to go ride, and they can do so at their own leisure, hence less having to mission to races to ride when events are on, rather than when it suits the riders. 3. Boomshanka you sound as if you have a vested interest here. I agree with Mr. Lem, you are well positioned for a niche of the market, longer trading hours, good service, those free coffees sound good too....
  4. Jongensfontein next to Stilbaai is way better. Stilbaai campsite becomes a caravan city during December, okes pull in and rig themselves up complete with washing machines, satellite dishes, the works, and then sit there parking off for 3 weeks.
  5. If you can ride straight up that gravel road you are impressive. My mate owns Steilte farm, I don't know if you are familiar with the forest to the right of the cement road but there is quite a bit of MTBing to be done there and some nice sneaky singletracks. There's also quite a network of contours that lead up to the level of the masts.
  6. You talking about "Steilte" Farm, with the twin cement tracks leading up off the tar road?
  7. These stats may shed some light on these incidents. http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?set_id=1&click_id=79&art_id=vn20081126060319760C235514
  8. Whoever has been building trails there....THANKS! Great job, awesome place to get some adrenaline flowing when you don't have too much time on your hands.
  9. I am in the process of sourcing a new FD for a Giant XTC hardtail. The one I currently have on is top swing, I saw a few XTC's on the web with conventional swinging action. My question is which should I get and does it make a difference if the angle of the cable from the cable stop to the FD hasn't been affected too much? Thanks guys. XTC12008-11-18 02:03:07
  10. <P>Mason at Masons Bike Inn usually goes the extra mile and then some. For MTBing he is tops in Stellenbosch.</P><edited><editID>XTC1</editID><editDate>2008-11-13 08:00:38</editDate></edited>
  11. Came from an XTC1 hardtail to a TREK EX8 trail bike...first ride was a bit awkward, havent looked back since. Best fun ever, glad I made the move. Taking jumps and drops that I would've taken the chicken run on before. Pick a line and keep it on singletrack, over rocks and roots no worries. Missed my hardtail dragging my dually over the Swartberg Pass though this weekend...def didnt miss it while smoking the downhills though.

    Where 2 Buy

Living in Harrismith I'd rather be mountainbiking! Buy one of each, used, for R8500....
  13. Same here. Very nicely made. Beats the pants of the 20Watt Halogen Downlight shoved into a cut off Pick and Pay torch light with the 2KG 4AH battery I keep having to duct tape to my down tube.....

    Stolen Bike

I am weary of insurance, it seems as if they ALWAYS have some or another reason not to pay. I wonder if R300 a month, ie R3600 a year over the lifespan of a bike, say 3 years, wouldn't make a nice lump sum towards replacing it down the line rather...

    Stolen Bike

I have (maybe stupidly, maybe not) never had any of my bikes insured. I have just bought one with around 30K replacement value, what could I expect to pay to have it insured? Would it be best to specify it under household insurance or do it via a company that specialises in bike insurance? Any advice would be welcome.
  17. I got an AVIS upgrade to a Forester during one work trip all over KZN...did some expremental amateur rallying on extremely wet and muddy farm roads when no one was looking and the car was AWESOME, would absolutely love to have one of my own! (which I will drive more sedately....) Any of you guys gatvol of your Forester wanting to sell it on...PM me!
  18. I have an old Judy Race with 80mm travel which you are welcome to have. It leaks oil like an old Landy yet remained surprisingly plush given it's condition and until very recently I managed to take some nice drops on my hardtail on it. I am based in Somerset West, Western Cape if you know of anyone that can pick it up for you. As mentioned it is corroded and leaks oil but its better than a kick in the shin.
  19. You didn't spend hundreds of hours mowing your lawn though!
  20. Over and above that, it's FUN working on your bike! (over and above being hugely satisfying...)
  21. JB's posts rate highly for pure entertainment value.
  22. Would you recommend Gooi-ing your Camelbak in the washing machine on a gentle / cold wash? My other half complains about a horrible smell when riding behind me....and the Camelbak ALSO has some hectic odours!
