  1. just throw your bike off chapmans peak and voila the authentic damaged frame look....
  2. sometimes I think the guys that spend 30 grand on bikes are a bit crazy ok I can appreciate that top end bikes are a thing of beauty and I suppose if you're going to race you probably need something fancy with all the bells and whistles etc etc but it would be wasted on a person like me ..if I had that kind of money to blow on a bike I would just get a good entry level bike for around 6000 to 8000 put the change in a fixed deposit or some kind of annual investement scheme ride the crap out of the bike and replace it every year ... and never bother servicing it come to think of it you shouldn't need to do to much to it in the space of a year if its brand new .that would be fun trying all the differant bikes for a year... addmitedly it would limit you to hardtails ..Only thing is if my wife found that I had 30 grand stashed away for spending on bikes hmmm do I see a divorce coming...

  7. what the heck is inside that hub??? it cant be brakes as it already has discs....
  8. I suppose its relative if you spent R20000 or something on your bike then spending big bucks on it isn't so way out if however your bike is a little less pricey like 4 or 5 grand then spending 3 or 4 grand servicing it is probably not so wise... you could sell your bike take the money you would have spent on the service and bought a brand spanking new bike... my 2cents
  9. I'm sure there are those of you out there who have done something like this before but I haven...I am wanting to buy a wheelset from someone in the free state and I am in CT what is the best way of getting them here and what would it cost the wheels are about 2kg..
  10. On Friday coming down Tokai I found myself going past a whole group of people ...I was so amzed I was actually going past people I didn't know what to do so I started shouting "passing Left, Passing left.." only when I got to the bottom did I realise that I had been passing on the right .....I are a chopstick are I not.....
  11. when I started riding again I never washed my bike and so the cassette and chain wore out ...now I wash it every week and the hubs are stuffed I cant win..........

  18. a few weeks ago I loveingly cleaned my bike till she was all sparkly clean and lubed then I got sick and was out of action for 3 weeks when I wanted to go riding yesterday the rear freewheel was seized up so I unseized it with the help of a hammer and a block of wood then I went fo a nice long ride up at tokai yesterday ..now I am re- naming my bike the coffee grinder ..I think the bearing in both the front and the rear hub are in their glory ...I can even hear the grinding ...and Im deaf .... the question is do I ride them until they are completey stuffed and just get new hubs or do I just get new wheels bearing in mind (pardon the pun) that I have an extremely limited budget say maybe R1800.00 ... just wondering I will probably spend the afternoon re-greasing the bearings I can get to ...
  19. When I started riding again a couple of years ago I started out riding flats cos thats what I rode when i was a kid but everywhere people seem to think that clipless are the bee's knee's, I keep getting told that I need to use clipless that it is so much better etc etc blah blah blah I have been shopping round the lbs shops and when I ask if they have any decent flats they look at me as if I am mad in the head you should use clipless they say and the only flats they have are either insanely expensive or complete rubbish...I ride purely because I enjoy it and it makes me feel like a kid again. As much as I love MTBing I am one shitty rider and I have really crappy coordination so put that with clipless will be a disaster. But the way so many people go on about the efficiency etc blah blah about clipless I always feel like I am missing something but after reading that article I don't anymore. Now if people would just stop trying to sell me clipless......
  20. hopefully not a repost http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqocUxVDSXE&feature=player_embedded http://news.discovery.com/tech/alternative-power-sources/rocket-powered-bike-sets-land-speed-record-130523.htm#mkcpgn=fbdsc8
  21. I wear a hearing aid its just as well I dont race cos you cant wear the damn thing when you ride they get stuffed up by sweat etc but not hearing guys coming up behind you on a downhill presents some interesting problems....people have to shout really loud to get my attention....by the time Ive realised someones "passing left" theyre gone already ...
