  1. done and dusted will go towards a gym membership so I don't get fat again this winter funny thing is now I really feel like getting out on my bike again... i think i need my head checked???? I got basically what I paid for it ...with a spot of goodwill .... seems fair apparently some folks are asking for a grand????? that doesn't seem right...
  2. It was difficult to see exactly what it was as the roads were quite busy I can't even remember what colour it was but it was on Monday that I saw it unfortunately I was past so quickly it was only a bit later that I "thought hang on wtf was that?????" he was headed in fish hoek direction. I a bit nervous confronting arbitrary people who may be riding a stolen bike ..if you're wrong it can cause some embarrassment never mind all the racial type crap that goes with it.. hope your pal finds his Makulu that is one seriously nice bike ... he must be a tad upset... The problem is that you see this kind of thing all the time you start getting to know about bike's most normal (aka non bike lovers) don't know a Bianchi from a huffy and they also don't know when a chap in overalls is riding a R40 grand bike unfortunately those of us the bike lovers can't just run around hauling people off bikes cos you think they are stolen even if it is blatantly obvious ..very often the cops don't have a clue either....
  3. Yes like the gardener sort chap riding a very nice DH bike along main rd by lakeside ...he was struggling a bit in the wind with that DH type gearing....
  4. With great sadness I have decided to bail out of doing my first Argus. My wife has just had a baby and I have just had a little op and just don't seem to be recovering as fast as I would have liked and this after not riding for nearly a month as well. The other thing is with this whole Argus thing hanging over me I have found that I haven't been enjoying my riding as much as I normally do, it has required spending time on the road which I absolutely hate . funnily enough I have done 2 rides since I resigned myself to not doing the argus and the old enjoyment has come back ..guess I'm not cut out for it....ok so nuff excuses and feeling sorry for myself .. how do I go about flogging the entry and are there any rules as to how much I can ask for the ticket?
  5. It started off quite well I bought her nice new wheels, a new cassette even new cranks, I cleaned her, lubed her every week, I promised her we would do the argus together. we rode around the peninsula together, we rode tokai 3 times a week ...then I got my wife pregnant with our 3rd kid ..it was fine until about 3 weeks ago the due date for nr3 was around new year. My training was going ok ... new year came and went, we went into baby overdrive had to get things ready you know ..... then she was a week past due date then 10 days then baby arrived on the 10th jan a very cute little boy which makes it 3 boys .... then I went for an op to have the baby factory decommissioned and oh dear that training has kinda gone for a ball of ess h one tea ....and I am now not getting much sleep, my wife is taking strain with this one and hells bells I'd forgotten what a mission newborns were (no2 is six and a half) So now I am contemplating not doing the argus. I just don't feel like its gonna happen So tomorrow I will try riding my bike and see how it feels then I will make a decision, the doc said it should be ok the op was on Friday. I just don't want to do the argus unless I am fit enough to enjoy it and boy do I feel a wreck at the moment. Worst is every time I go in the garage I can feel her glaring at me ...... like a scorned lover......
  6. whats been going on I've been off the hub for a while I haven't been for a ride for nearly 3 weeks owing to week 1 I just couldn't get going week 2 my wife had a baby and now I've gone decommissioned the baby factory.... so coming to the hub makes me feel guilty as for when I go in the garage and my bike see's me ...... well lets not go there but a few more days and I'lll be back in the saddle. so what happened please tell ...............
  7. i cannot look at these bikes they are too beautiful there's just something about the clean lines of a hardtail mtb that makes me go all gooey inside....just makes me sad that all of these beauties are way out of my price range....
  8. I found a set of these http://bbbcycling.com/bike-parts/pedals/BPD-32 at my lbs they were about R300.00 I'm no freerider but they work well enough for what I do and they work and they grip like dogs**t to a shoe.I found that as my old NB takkies get more worn they grip the pedals better you don't actually have to spend thousands unless you are really serious or if you have the money to play well why not..... https://www.bikejames.com/strength/the-flat-pedal-revolution-manifesto-how-to-improve-your-riding-with-flat-pedals/
  9. that looks like a rwandan coffee bike?
  10. if you can afford it do it....as far as I'm concerned PJ are a lifetime/bucket listy type band....if I ever get an opportunity to see them live I will take it believe me....
  11. I am getting a bit worried how fast it is going, up last year june 2011 it was 350, this year june it was 370 now it is 430.. hmmm and yes it might not be bad against 45 daily entrance ... but if you guys keep saying what a bargain it is gives them licence to just go wild and increase the price way way way higher than the inflation rate or anything else for that matter ....so if its a bargain at R500 they will think lets just make it a grand look at all these fancy bikes these people can afford it ....they said it was a bargain .... yes I know a good set of tyres cost a grand blah blah blah anyways maybe I'm just being a troll here but that is my 2 cents in a nutshell keep going on about what a bargain it is an soon it wont be ..
  12. oh I was misconstrued ...the bike bike is under full all risk everywhere and is a separate itemised payment like you said. Its not a fancy bike or anything so it is not expensive. ie it is insured for a low amount as it was not an expensive bike. So you are correct sir its just as you said.
  13. I had a 3 speed cruiser when I was a kid then I had a another bike also with a three speed ..those things a just about indestructible. They also hardly ever need maintenance they were fantastic. One day when I have some money I will build up a 3 speed bike again.. how much was that SA by the way?
  14. not so.. Santam are actually really good..I must say... crashed my bike recently and tried putting in a claim and they actually paid out no fuss whatsoever in fact they paid out with a few hours of lodging my claim ..but do all your claims through your brokers that may be the trick ... anyway saying that, insurance is tricky cos now something else might happen and they might not pay out ..the whole things a bit like gambling.............
  15. Hells bells I was really worried there for a minute....
  16. Maybe we need a full list of what is legal and what is not? Just to clarify things for everyone? or am I just being silly. Surely everything on that signpost at the arboretum is legal?
  17. only three trails are legal? are the snakes not legal? I think I am misundertsanding something here? Surely?
  18. A while ago a track appeared joining up with Faerie Garden just after the troll bridge (yes I know i have an obsession with Faerie garden but thats just cos I keep wrecking my bike there for some reason) where did it come from? I wanted to ride it but havent because I'm not sure if its legal or not? I think something that may be contributing to the problem is that a lot of the legal trails are not even marked anymore ..if we had a situation where all the legal trails were marked properly then it would quite simply be a case of if it ain't marked don't ride it, would apply, understandably after the logging all the signage kinda went to hell. Boulders which is legal (I hope) is not marked and unless you have been riding Tokai for a while and are familiar with the various trails you wouldn't know whats legal or not???? By the sounds of it you have a heckava time getting approval for signage and then get blasted when illegal trails pop up all over the place when quite simply all thats required is some decent signage.. But all Kudos to you for the job you have been doing Deon, I for one appreciate all the work you have put in.
  19. As it turns out the cranks are bent ....and as luck would have it I have come into a little unexpected money and have decided to just replace the whole lot with Deore.I couldn't stretch it to SLX that would have been nice ..I think I am doing the right thing Shimano stuff is much easier to get hold of ... and the write ups on those FSA alpha drives were not great...I think I going to ride a little more carefully in that Faerie garden ...lol.....
  20. years ago when I was a laaitie my dad used to work for the council and one of his projects was that road, at the time he used to have a Citroen GS it had this crazy hydraulic suspension which could raise the car .. we often used to go up there no problem was probably around 1979-1980.... one of his stories is how they had to tow the roller with a grader becuase the road was so steep...
  21. Regarding cranksets is the only differance between the slx crankset and the deore crankset weight? just as a matter of interest?
