  1. Speak to Joggie, he does bike transport for events, maybe he’s coming down to Slaapstad or somewhere closeby.
  2. They probably need 2 shirts to print the full event name on it… 😝
  3. Jaaaaa…. I know the race report has been on my to do list since forever, work and things got in the way but i will wrap the old one up at some point, the draft essay is there. Sorry okes! thanks for the follow on insta, i only joined insta because that seems to be where the action is in the world of endurance cycling events like Silk Road, AMR and so on. So all i post on insta is things related to my cycling endeavours, no twerking twak 😛
  4. I forgot to add that we managed to raise just over R51000 last year. The tech wizzes at the SPCA informed me that on top of the actual funds raised, my campaign raised over R260000 through the media exposure. I’m too dumb to understand how that works but that’s what I was told by their marketing gurus.
  5. I am happy to say that every penny raised for the SPCA goes towards them and them alone. I stated from the off that I didn’t want to reduce the success of my campaign by having the SPCA cover any of my costs. That was the case last year and it is the same for this year. Last year I entered out of my own pocket and only after having entered did I approach the SPCA to ask if we could collaborate, so in other words I was going to do the Munga last year anyways but I thought maybe I could do some good for a change by riding for a good cause. My dogs are literally my life as I am a divorcee of 10 yrs and having them around through that time as well as my father’s passing and being retrenched several times really kept me sane and motivated to keep on trucking. I did try drinking but that didn’t work out, fortunately. That kind of seemed to be in line with what it must be like to do a 1000km bike ride and that was/is still my motivation for going at it again. Just keep on trucking. Lastly, I am happy to report that this year I approached the race directors for a special entry and I am blessed in that they have granted me with one. So that still means that every penny raised goes towards the SPCA and I am still covering all of my own costs: kit, travel, the works. I hope that gives some background to your valid comments Shebeen my old mate. PS: the cricket chat between us has died down completely… (understandably, let’s not go there…😉)
  6. Interested parties can follow me on Instagram where I will be sharing my race as I go along - I just need to remember to record updates at the RV’s! @makatienie
  7. Thank you for sharing our story admins! I look forward to another exciting event and hopefully I can shave off a couple of hours by coming in on Sunday so that friends and family can share the experience.
  8. TB done and dusted. As mentioned above, conditions probably couldn’t have been better for my maiden voyage through the Baviaanskloof. My partner unfortunately had to pull out after CP5 because of medical concerns so I joined another team and ended up using this event as a training ride for my 2nd Munga attempt later this year. Managed a respectable 15,5 hrs in the end.
  9. Time to wrap up my blogs. Munga ‘23 is coming around and I need to get my campaign with the SPCA up and running.

  11. I dealt with Wayne a month ago, it might have changed in the interim, best bet to reach out to him, he is very responsive.
  12. Its lekker to read someone else's account of events. My blog is still unfinished, need to capture the ride from Sutherland onward. I too had pinkie and ring finger issues until recently when it just seemed to return to normal. I blamed the stupid bar ends i had on. Well done, you put up a good time, you pipped me by 20hrs…. 😀
  13. I would like to add that I spoke at length with Nick and based on our chats I wouldn't hesitate to make use of his service. I opted for Wayne from Rapide purely because I have dealt with him before and preferred to go with the known rather than the unknown. Nothing against Nick. I like what he’s doing with the Nextie carbon wheels, it’s something I would seriously consider if and when I decide to go for carbon wheels.
  14. Rapide in Jozi. I had my American Classic wheels rebuilt by Wayne for R1400 which included shipping back to CT. It was cheaper to send my wheels from CT and have him rebuild, and theres nothing wrong with Wayne’s products. I’ve bought 2 MTB wheelsets from him with zero issues and the roadbike is now sorted with the new spokes and nipples. *I had to have my American Classics Victory wheels rebuilt after the original aluminium nipples broke and I couldn’t tension the wheels. Sad to say I lost the 3,5mm bladed spokes in the process, Wayne installed his Alpina Bladed spokes. Very happy with the outcome.
  15. it was our last outing to the French Valley Dickie... awaiting updated wheels though if that is what you are referring to 😈
  16. God save Dura Ace 7800… 😝
  17. Seen on whatsapp group… 🤣 d46d9a81-2ca4-4035-bbc5-49b736b31b43.mp4
  18. I might be cycling there on Saturday Chris, then I will report back 🙂
