  1. My LBS say "catastrophic failure is imminent!" so I sent it for welding with them, seeing that the pros say it'll break. I am really liking the buy another frame idea, truthfully!
  2. If he does this professionally, I'll gladly pay him for his services. Can you PM me his number, thanks
  3. I tried to search my race number and plugged in #7831. Picture number 7831 happens to be a chap who is 20 shades whiter than me and looks like he's about to have a heart attack haha. Can I suggest, for future races that you use the timestamp, so people can work out more accurately what time they should have hit that spot? Shot
  4. Hi guys I just bought a 2nd hand 2005-ish aluminium Scott road bike with pretty decent components, for an intern(English for underpaid slave). This kid is fit and keen to learn and has arranged a payment plan with me. Things is, we got it for a good price because it has a hairline crack on the frame where the stem goes through to the fork. It looks benign but we need to weld it to make it safe. Problem is who can I trust not to ruin the bike and turn it into an expensive parts bike. Thanks
  5. Hey Batty....have the Retul bike setup with Koos at Cyclelab Fourways or Ergofit from Jeroen Swarts Do some high intensity intervals (HIIT), Hill Attacks and up the tempo on LSD or join a club/group and try graduate through the groups as your pace increases ALSO taper the week leading to race day

    Argus - 2 laps

Wow! So many nice guys and effortless sub-3's. Dayamnnnn!!!! Nice to hear the stories of altruism and inspiration. Something to aspire to for sure.
  7. Awesome work Fire-guy. Pity about the inept mall cops and SAPS
  8. Guys the thread is a light-hearted 1st timers brainfart, the intention is to spark debate and maybe an email to the real organisers (not Madam Zille). If we're lucky maybe someone with clout reads this and speaks to someone else and they improve the race and make it more enjoyable then my job is done! I am by no stretch of the imagination a "racing snake", but have been training a fair bit for 8 months and yes mostly on Sat and Sunday with Cyclelab, but I want to measure my performance against my peers and 6 years younger brother. I beat him by 30 seconds and I'll be back. Not hating on Argus, PPA or any organisers. I do NOT wanna dice with a guy in a purple Barney suit. Its just a litttttle more to me!
  9. Anyone who rode the P&P Argus tour yesterday with an opinion on what worked and especially what DIDN'T! Please feel free to state your gripes and wins here and we'll forward it to Supreme Chancellor Zille to fix or at least consider for next year. As my first Argus I was luckily with old-hands who showed me the way to go, so preparation, timing, parking and loading into the chute was pretty smooth sailing. It did help that I arrived early. All I had to do was look out for the Standard Bank building, as per map and get to H-group (and freeze) and wait. There are a few things I would do differently; Start procedure- deploy much more staff to check the 5 "required to race" items (chip, numbers on h/bars; on brake cable;on shirt, a helmet, race card) have more access points for riders to get to their respective groups add more lighting at the start holding areas supply more toilets and refuse bins at start area potentially add paid lock-up storage at start line deploy marshals inside the chutes to stop late-comers from pushing past riders who arrived on time, to secure better start position on windy and even non-windy days, add some sort of windbreak on exit of the start line (just past the buildings), to prevent cyclists getting blown off their bikes 30 seconds into the race Timing of groups releases- Accept LESS entrants and charge a nominal amount more to recover that loss of income and THEN release the different groups further apart i.e. the current short intervals between groups are causing bottle-necks from Muizenberg through till halfway up Smitswinkel and the concertina effect on the Atlantic seaboard is potentially dangerous. Our group caught the G-group on the Blue Route and were caught by the head of F-group and even some flyers from J-group at Muizenberg because of the slow-and-go after Blue Route Race timing(racetec) I had a noticeable discrepancy in my recorded time and official time of 3mins. I personally started my Polar RCX 5 -20 seconds after the starters gun and stopped it about 30 seconds after crossing the line, so maybe consider having a second timing supplier ( and NO it doesnt auto stop- also I didnt stop or get off once, so bugs in system??? No? General observations The commentator at the finish line offering drinks could have more than one joke-something to do with “switching the wind off next year” More beer tents! Complimentary massages closer to the finish line More signage directing people to the Cyclelab and other VIP areas Not to play that “Suikerbossie” song at foot of Suikerbossie climb Deploy a person with a warning flag on final turn before Beach Road stretch to the finish line. I nearly overcooked it there, going in too hot and that would have been a long run carrying my bike In spite of the wind, the race was a big success and an absolute pleasure to ride and more especially pleasurable to finish. I can’t wait for next year and will start training for sub 3 from tomorrow. Promise! If you really want to know i did it in 03:36:06
  10. when do we get our refunds for the Argus?
  11. yep spotted that on http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/466063-Anyone-with-King-Price Thanks.
  12. Firstly sorry for slow reply, been a busy day. According to the call agent, they underwrite their own policies and are an insurance company in their own right and are not owned by outside parties whatsoever. I'm sure we can do a search on Brabys and CIPRO, but I suspect he may be on the up and up! I'm just intrigued by the DECREASING instalments. Still on the cusp. Will make an informed decision 1st thing tomorrow after my ride
  13. All complaints are about your typical; slow response, poor service slow to pay out refusal to payout half truths when selling the product According to the salesman, its clients that don't disclose all the facts when signing on. I am just trying to give them a fair shake and get some feedback from satisfied customers on here and not just faceless, nameless complainants that could potentially be their competitors (Outsurance, Budget etc) who are complaining on Hellopeter . Who knows?
  14. I am currently in the market for bicycle insurance and have my car insured with Outsurance. I have been quoted R300 cheaper for car and bicycle with King Price, but have seen only one positive thread on theHub about them and 100's of dissatisfied customers on HelloPeter. Please give insights if you've dealt with them or know someone personally who has had issues. No conjecture or postulation, juss facckss!PLEASE
  15. Been on vacation in CT for 2 weeks and rode this route with my brother at least 4 times. I did ride on a loaner Orbea and must say that there are more than one time when strange cars are stopping and making weird turns while out in the nature reserve, Ocean View and Scarborough area. These crooks are targetting specific bikes and know the value of this easy score. The cops and politicians need to get involved before we have a tragedy. In the meantime ride your older bikes while training, have scheduled check-ins with family and try ride in groups.
  16. As an ex policeman, I can safely say that the pepper spray does NOT work on the many dogs and some stoned humans, that I have had to use it on in 10years as an officer. I can't vouch for the SWAT direct stream stuff, but pepper spray. No good!
  17. Probably unrelated, but I had an entry level AL129 and the rear wheel bearings popped out on an outride. Warranty repaired it after a few days and threw in a free X0 to replace the X5. Use it. Don't use it.
  18. If I were in CT, I would soooo join you. Imagine my irritation when I flew in from JHB a few months ago, rented a duallie from Neil's Wheels and did the climb to get to what we dubbed "the playground" only to find it logged! Are you making the new 'Boomslang' on a new trail or amongst the ruins?
  19. Thanks JMK and team.
