  1. Has anyone found a simple (plug and play) cheap UPS solution for a Wahoo setup @ 12v 5A (60w) to keep thing going with Eskom doing the rounds?
  2. Contacted Garmin a minute ago, they mentioned that they do not do any screen repairs to their watch range in SA, they do however offer a discount for the replacement of the same unit, replacement costs sat at R2500 for this specific model. It is also subject to their review of the unit and it begin book in, will update the tread after the process of being reviewed by the tech team etc. . Update - worked out well, watch was replaced at R2703.00
  3. During our December holidays my wife brushed up on a face brick wall whilst passing me in a hallway. Her watched lightly scraped the brick, unfortunate at the perfect angle to crack the screen/glass. I must add we were both shocked with how little pressure it took the do the damage, a screen protector could possibly have solved this issue. Given the poor reviews from Garmin's technical repairs on the Hub and elsewhere on the web, does anyone else know of a reputable repair Centre/person in the Gauteng area?
  4. Hi Hub, The fam and I enjoy our trips off the beaten track. My MTB used to travel in the back of the bakkie and with the correct number of straps and padding the 4x4 tracks caused little problems. Enter our little baby and the space in the back of the bakkie is now occupied with various child related amenities. The trailer has a roof top tent and the bakkie roof is to high. My question: Can anyone recommend a product/solution for traveling with 1/2 MTB's over rough terrain given the above.
  5. Hi Eddy, I'd also appreciate a share of those detail. regards.
  6. Hi Hubbers, For a while now my wife has made use of her Adidas Evil Eye glasses. We had to get the prescription lenses cut to size and even then its not a perfect fit in the frame. Doing the baviaans this year and I would like to get her a new pair with both dark and clear lenses for night conditions. Can anyone share some good feedback from any other eye wear brands that can accommodate prescription lenses. Regards
  7. Hi Hubbers, I'm the weekend worrier that is obsessed with a decent pair of shoes. As a result i bought a pair of Geaerne shoes featuring a fancy carbon sole. During my Sunday ride a section of the carbon sole broke off from the rest of the sole. The shoes are 3 years old with less that 2000km to them. Is this something that anyone has come across? should I get the agents involved? if so can anyone point me in a direction other than my LBS as they do not work with the brand anymore. Any assistance would be appreciated.
  8. Also, be sure not to over tighten your seatclamp
  9. Hi Hubbers, Just out of curiosity, how many people in Cape Town whom have had their bikes stolen from their property use Strava? I mean you effectively show your start and ending position on a map and a pic here and there of your bike, now the criminals have everything they need to know... your address and what is for the picking inside based on your pictures on Strava? Or am I missing something?
  10. I ran into a shop the other day to have a look at this, the Scott Scale 940 is excessively heavy... I'n not a someone that will buy a carbon seat clamp to save 1g, but this bike still felt very heavy... think the dropper adds quite a bit.... or maybe to much sealant...
  11. if under warranty both should be covered, take the bike to the LBS you purchased it from and send it back to distributors
  12. I'm looking to move to XT mix with XO Arms and aftermarket chainring. As for what was the issue with XO, teeth came of the chainring, and the one that followed. The carbon on the rear deraileur also started to come appart. The parts were cleaned after almost every ride en the crank never hit any rocks or boulders when riding over obstacles. A combination of missing teeth and a not to functional rear mech had me buying new chains every other week as they would twist etc. I know I'm not a bike mechanic or technical guy, but when compared to my group of friend my SRAM components had far more "issues" that their Shimano speced bikes provided, we always ride together. Bike had meen looked after a LBS that does my other bikes too, and no problems there, so I wouldn't blame it on faulty installation.
  13. Hi everyone, Thank you for the input and replies. For the record, I'm not opposed to running SRAM, when comparing my other bikes and previous experiences I'm just leaning a bit to the Shimano side. So, the elephant in the room is me, a heavy rider looking for a groupset that will be a relatively new but more reliable and robust that light weight and technologically advanced. For me Shimano ticks the boxes, and at the pace I break things shim should be cheaper too?
  14. Hi Hubbers, I have been running my SRAM X0 (2X10) setup in the picture below. I've had a few setbacks and would like to move away from SRAM. Is it possible to retain the cranck in some way or form and purchace a XT1x11 groupset and marry the two without spending to much $? New xt crancks are expensive and there is not much wrong with the crank arms. Can anyone propose a product or two that I can use to retain the crank and run XT?
